  2. Thanks Dave. Have we discussed Shergold 4/8-strings before? I think you must be the only other owner of a 4/8 twin apart from me (mine was white, s/n 8401). I p/x'd it for my Takamine TB-10 at Wunjo. I'm sure the tale is somewhere in the basschat vaults.
  3. With respect to gold and silver, gold has less conductivity than copper, so it's not suited for wire. Any non-tarnishing metal coating of connectors is OK, as it's too thin to offer resistance. Silver has 10% higher conductivity than copper, which means copper need only be 10% larger or 10% shorter to give the same resistance. That makes silver a waste of money.
  4. Stunning - As the OP said, one of the finest Precision shaped objects money can buy.
  5. Saw them a few years ago and that bass of his sounded phenominal. I had the ES-335 and can agree that it is a superb bass.
  6. Same for me and my EB Cobalt flats, you get some actual wrap around the capstan on the E & A strings but, because of the large diameter of the peg, doesn’t seem to matter.
  7. Superb example of a brilliant manufacturer. I had the 4 & 8 twin neck. Shergolds first 8 stringer that was built using their 6 string bass as a guide. Being only 9.5 stone back then it was a heavy beast. I came across a guy in London selling it and when i approached saying i was the original owner he removed the advert and disappeared. I can only imagine it had been stolen. Shame as i would love to have it back. Cost me £630 back in 78 i think it was. My fondest memory is that amazing 4 stringer neck. It was just glorious to play. If i had been in a prog band i would have jumped at this classic. GLWTS Dave
  8. This is the probably the hardest thing* about being in a band, organising mutually acceptable dates is like trying to nail a jelly to a wall/herding cats. *That and finding a name, actually playing your instrument is, by comparison, the easy bit.
  9. *cough* 1977 right? (people like me are why I stopped tribute bands btw)
  10. I would have been 15 at the time and was playing guitar in a local group. I know, took me a while to see the error in my ways. We got wind of what was going on and blagged our way in. They were quite glad of the "uninvited" as the weather was pretty miserable and quite a few people who should have been there didn't show. Not sure she was planning on playing "Didn't it Rain", but it did, so she did. They had the artists on one platform and we were on the other side of the track. From memory it was Granada Television that staged it.
  11. I've been down that road before when I played in a Stones tribute - that's my story and I'm sticking to it! What's your band? We've started a FB group called Glam UK with the aim of benefitting all the bands working in the genre.
  12. It's sampled from a Victor Lewis Smith prank call.
  13. Jose bought my Boss Bass Synth. No quibbles, straightforward deal. Recommended. Cheers!
  14. I purchased these from reverb a few years ago to record my father-in-law playing piano before he passed away from cancer. He was raising money for cancer research UK through his playing (https://www.pianograndad.com) and raised over £12,000 in total through social media exposure. Sadly, I no longer have a need for these and will move them on. They are in acceptable used condition where both the mics and flight case show signs of use. Price includes delivery to the UK mainland.
  15. While gold has the advantage of being for all intents and purposes corrosion free any hifi I had tended to live in an area which didn't suffer from either wet or corrosive environments - in which case silver is a far better bet, ohms-wise (that vanishingly small difference in transmissions is like night and day to a proper audiofile ) Saying that, I used to have a pair of 120W Lumley valve monoblocks that weren't so common as to used mere Gold for its terminals... They used Rhodium!
  16. If I believed I could sell it at a moments notice, I would be down there today. But despite the crazy prices in the market, I don't know if they ever actually sell!
  17. I'd do anything for love (but I won't do that) - Meatloaf
  18. Today
  19. I use long scale EB Slinkies on both my string through Mustangs without a problem.
  20. This is crazy wizardry to me. I've only just got midi in/out sorted with a keyboard and drums on my Mac! I can't see myself needing more than a few presets live. Will look into it in that case.
