  2. It's not an original neck in any way. That's a slab fingerboard, not a veneer, which it should be on any Fender from 1962-1983. Those tuners are the Fender branded Schallers that came out in 1976 and are still used in Fender's '70s reissue basses today. The guard is a clear repro. The body, electronics and bridge could be real, you'd need to a closer look inside to verify.
  3. We do a silent test that everyone is going through the mixer/laptop and in ears are working, and individually do a quick loud test of backline things (E.g. just playing a few bass notes at volume). Then we basically go straight into our first song but it is one where instruments gradually start playing one by one and the lead singer stands out front checking the levels via a laptop interface, we go around for a while if he needs to adjust things, then he starts singing and adjusts vocal levels if needed. The upside is punters don't have to put up with a lot of '1 2 1 2 check check' stuff. Downside is it is a bit a a damp squib of a set starting.
  4. Easily the best speaker cabinet I have ever used: am downsizing to lighter Genz Benz cabs as I rarely play live now. The Eden D210XST Cab is loud enough to be heard and yet still small enough to be used at home or in a small studio. For those players who need a portable, high-performance rig with even more low end than the XLT, Eden has designed a 2 x 10" cabinet for their XST woofers. Punchy and clean, the D210XST produces a full and clear tone through its two 10" speakers. It's excellent for delivering articulate bass lines with volume. This 2 x 10" cabinet handles more power than many 4 x 10" cabs on the market. The D210XST offers huge bottom end with its cleverly-designed tuned and ported cabinet construction and speaker selection: the low end is full but tight, the mids are open and well-defined and the highs are clear and crisp. Durable build quality makes this ideal for touring and live performances. All Eden enclosures are constructed with 5/8" thick void free plywood with full dado and rabbet jointing. Massive internal bracing prevents vibration and keeps the sound deep, tight and clear. Exclusive Eden Cast Frame loudspeakers and Eden Cast Bell low distortion tweeter horns are designed, hand-built and tested in their own factory in the USA. Very Good condition. Comes with an official Eden cover. Power Handling: 500 Watts Impedance: 8 Ohms Speakers: 2x10" Eden-spec Eminence EC1060XS speakers Tweeter: Eden Cast Bell low distortion Crossover: 3.5KHz @ 18dB Frequency Response: 30Hz - 14KHz Sensitivity: 103dB SPL Connections: Parallel 1/4 Inch and Speakon Dimensions: 23" w x 18" h x 18.5" d Weight: 59lbs / 26.8kg Only £325. Collection from East London preferred, although happy for buyer to arrange a courier.
  5. Why do you think I have a Sire D5? That itch has to be scratched sometimes...
  6. The thick plottens!!
  7. Brilliant, thanks! I'll look into those suggestions Fully agree this wouldn't be the place to cut corners
  8. Funny old thing, I always go on gut instinct when I look at a bass, and while I can't tell you why, as far as my gut is concerned the neck says no. No help at all in real terms Brian 🤔
  9. No they are all “ Mersey Beat” artists.
  10. Yep, similarly lend your bass to the singer/guitarist/drummist when they 'need to write some bass parts for the song they're working on' (because you're not trusted to do that), and you'll see authentic wear within days 👍
  11. Yes I agree, very strange, the video isn’t clear but when you realise the drummer is Omar Hakim and the guitar player Hiram Bullock, two of Marcus’s close friends it can’t be anyone else other than him, plus he played on the bulk of Spellbound along with Nathan East so it all seems to make sense.
  12. @SimonK- It's a perfect use case for him. Meet up half way on the M40 near Oxford?
  13. Hi Brian a couple of things I noticed and I could be wrong 😁 , block inlays were introduced in mid 66, looks like a 67/68 but the tuners have the small R which are early 70s ( my 71 doesn’t have it on the tuners) , pickguard looks like a reissue one at first glance , neck is very clean for the year, nice jazz
  14. The pickguard looks like modern Fender tort. Dark, with small cream or yellow blobs. The edge might have been dyed to look older, but it isn't vintage tortoiseshell of any marque.
  15. Nice Custom jazz bass, body is made from Sapele(Mahogany)with 6 coats of gun stock oil.Dimarzio J pickups with switching for series and parallel weighs around 10lbs,sounds and plays great.Price included postage in UK.£475

  16. Bits and Pieces - Dave Clarke 5
  17. Not soundchecking is extremely unprofessional. No faster way to clear a busy pub than starting the gig and sounding shit. You'll never get booked again.
  18. Very odd to see grovers on a 84 when they ditched these around 73. Very nice looking bass btw.
  19. Price dropped to £550 to shift it!
  20. Well, no drawbacks really, other than the way the system works. The main out is just another bus really, and if it is not used for anything else you can use it for that.
  21. I thought a “sound check” was the only opportunity for the guitarist to practice, no?
  22. I discovered a good relicing technique - let your teenage kids use your gear. Sooo many more dings in everything now. Even the walls. Not so much of a fashion, but they are especially talented at relicing my f*****g leads! It’s like a bowl of rice crispies when I plug anything in. On a more serious note, that Monty’s stuff on the fretboard seems great (though your board seems nicely dark already in the pic). Also stick a lit fag behind the nut on the E string and let it scorch the wood!
  23. Alright gang me again with potentially another dumb question. We're all successfully on IEMs now through our Soundcraft ui16 mixer. We've been using mono mixes but want to go stereo, 1 slight problem there are only 6 auxes (including headphones) and as we all sing we tried sharing a stereo mix but it wasn't for us. My question We're only using the unit for IEMs never FOH so can I just use the Main outs for an additional stereo IEM mix? What would the drawbacks be and how would I avoid affecting any of other aux mixes. I'm the most technical in the band (lol!) so I would lock down the other auxes so that each member can only access their own aux and I'd control the rest. Our setup will be almost identical night to night as we'll be using the same mics for everything bar the 2 guitarists. All vocal and drum mics will be the same so hopefully there won't be too much messing about. If this is a BA then we might just save up a bit more and get the ui24r but would rather not if this is possible.
  24. It was a soundcraft desk, although I did occasionally use a huge Allen and Heath. The other fun thing you could do with this arrangement is essentially a bass drop - so cut all the low frequencies out for the intro or other parts of a song and then send it all back in as needed. Not entirely useful but there were one or two songs in the set where this could give quite a nice lift - Wild Cherry "Play that Funky Music"- was one.
  25. Hi yes it's all working, feel free to message me 👍
