  2. I've had one of these for about 8 years and it's great - well made, loads of handles plus wheels https://www.gear4music.ie/Woodwind-Brass-Strings/Westbury-Deluxe-Padded-3-4-Double-Bass-Gig-Bag-with-Wheels/1MBI
  3. If you play baroque music, should you use A = 415 Hz, not tempered scales, original instruments, but not forget those extramarital affairs, different conflicts with contemporaries, controversial political views etc.? Can you play music, or are we just discussing about a performance that includes numerous details that seem to be more important than the music itself? I hate Springsteen singing, although his songs are fine. To me Dylan sounds dreadful, and many of his songs are total #rap. I like some of Wolfgang's music, although he was next to impossible as a person (I am more than happy that social media wasn't invented earlier). Do I have to tell a story (an excuse) before I play any music from Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, or Charlie Mingus? Or should I just let the listeners to choose between enjoying their music, or thinking about their actions?
  4. A little Sept bump!
  5. That’s charcoal frost is giving me the Sean Hurley sig vibes.
  6. "The 80s" is a very broad church ranging from "New Romantic" and synth-pop via jangly guitar bands all the way through to acid house. Of course most people tend to forget about anything post 1985 unless the band had already had hits before then. The problem I have with bands like the one in the clip above is that for me music in the 80s was as much about the image of the artists as it was about the songs. If the music is going to be performed by a bunch of beardy old blokes in crap shirts then it doesn't matter how well they have nailed the sound, the audience would be better off someone playing the records. I hope the OP is taking note...
  7. Great manual as well. Mesa generally do very good manuals which deliver technical information in a really player-friendly manner. I normally expect to see selectable mid frequencies on modern amps, so it is nearly refreshing to see an amp with simple pre-set bass, middle and treble controls like an old school valve amp. Yepp, definitely on my list.
  8. I'm interested in adding a reverb module between the mixer and the amp of our back up PA system amp. Can anyone point me at a kit that gives a clean sound, and has a front end gain stage that can be modified/adjusted to takes line level signal? An off the shelf solution might be a Behringer DR600 pedal, so £35-ish would be good, unless the kit was significantly better sounding. David
  9. There is a video and I thought it was attached. Looks like the video has been blocked for some reason. I will check/reattach when I get home tonight. There are plenty of versions of it on YouTube.
  10. Hello!
  11. Well, anyone with a pedal-board should go and see it and/or cheese loving guitarists. Not as good as the first one, but our singer was crying with laughter through most of it. Great band outing.....
  12. The best fun I've had in a band was in one that did '80s covers. I'm just a wee bit envious. Good luck with the project.
  13. Excuse me but I’m guessing a major percentage of basschatters including me are bordering on geriatric. No need to be famous.
  14. sounds cool, let's hope the prefered singer has the chops and attitude. Sax is cool (as Matt Smith's Dr would say)
  15. One for sale right now:
  16. Andertons and Peach are both offering this at a cheaper price than Thomann. Another one to add to the "must try one of these" list! Rob
  17. Down in the Park - Tubeway Army
  18. Hotcovers are the people who make the covers for Barefaced, and I think are probably the best of the bunch.
  19. Wow, beautiful instrument!
  20. Another Australian covers band, The Filthy Animals also have a lot on YouTube and similarly are pretty much note perfect.
  21. Fear of the Dark - Maiden
  22. I spent years looking for a second one of these, and one pipe sup not long after I buy a pair of Orange 115s. 🤣😂 Great cab btw. Monstrously loud, with a clear, but vintage sound. I still take mine to band practice rather than the Orange cabs. Best of luck with the sale.
  23. No spoilers.... But Lars Ulrich and several others turned down the opportunity.
  24. What a great idea.
  25. I must admit, despite being a hairy metal guy who's always played in originals bands, I've considered doing something similar - the 80s were my formative years, and Duran Duran, Thompson Twins, U2, Level 42, Depeche Mode, Queen, Simple Minds, Madness and Gary Numan sat happily in my record collection alongside the likes of Maiden, Motorhead, Rush, Metallica and so on. I've been watching a lot of videos of an Australian professional cover band based out of Adelaide called Hindley Street Country Club - they have a core of four or five members, bringing extra people in depending on the gig (backing vocalists, horns, etc). They do all the 80s hits from both sides of the pond, and they absolutely nail them. One of their singers does an absolutely uncanny Bowie! Their bass player looks like Lurch from the Addams Family and has a nice range of old Yamaha BBs. They absolutely nail the tunes - these aren't run-of-the-mill covers, they're note-for-note accurate, and even accurately reproduce the various keyboard and drum sounds. Something about that attention to detail and the sheer level of musicianship really appeals to me. Best of luck with the band, I hope you get it off the ground!
