  1. Past hour
  2. In the same week that a distant relative of mine - Sir Henry Rushbury - had a retrospective exhibition of his work in the Brum Art Gallery, my band was featured in Record Mirror. Sadly for me, the picture used went across two pages and I appeared to be impaled by a staple. My bandmates thought this was hysterical, and for the remainder of the mercifully brief duration of the combo, I was referred to as Sir Henry Staple.
  3. I watched the whole programme and was very impressed with the band ( just superb ) and most of the headline acts, with the exception of the Mumfords contributions. Their vocals were a bit frail and not quite in tune, especially compared with the other main performers. ( I didn’t know the Mumfords were even considered to be a country outfit TBH.)
  4. Really good basses - GLWTS
  5. Depending on the year, the 15's were usually EVM-15L's, the 10's could have been one of 3 or 4 different drivers (the one in the picture is NOT a CA-10 nor is it an Eminence, it may have been a Precision Devices driver). The 6-1/2" driver is a customized Eminence driver, there were at least 2 versions, one with an unvented motor and a vented dust cap and the one pictured that has a vented motor (because the dust cap is not vented). I do not know what the customizations were, but it it likely that it was related to the mid voicing and extension. If everything is working, I would leave the drivers alone.
  6. I bought this new in 2022 for a live band project that never came off. As a result, it’s never really been used other than to get upgraded to the version 2 firmware and some playing around to get the hang of it. These got a poor reception when they were first released but the version 2 firmware addressed most, if not all, of the criticisms making this a really powerful polyphonic sequencer that has loads of connection options and a ton of flexibility. It’s in the original box and is in mint condition. Available for inspection here in sunny Cleethorpes or can be posted in the UK for a fiver. Please PM with any questions - photos will follow tomorrow
  7. You obviously have no experience of a quality class D. Please believe me. I own and use both and it's bollocks to say the Trace has more heft.
  8. I've got the soapbar P+Js plus the LHZ in my Euro 5 LX. It's a peach. I liked the DCs but they're bordering on overwhelming and I like a bit more breathing space that the PJ config gives. I had a '01 NS5-XL years ago that I put soapbar P+Js in. The original pre packed up, so I put an ACG/East preamp in it. That was a very good combination and gave me a really versatile Spector. Nothing like any of the ones I have currently. I gigged it a lot. I sold it to raise cash for something. Gone forever now.
  9. I doubt it. I've measured my TE at full power with an oscilloscope. I couldn't measure distortion but it was very lose to 300W into 4R. The rail to rail boltage is consistent with that too. The THD on a class D is negligible. Obviously overdriving the preamps on both amps would eke out more power. But it's a sterile discussion. The Trace only puts out less than 200W into the 4x10 with no extension cab, but is still ample for my needs. My modern rig IS more powerful, but I dont actually need that extra power except on rare occasions (like playing on a football field with no pa support). I'm not knocking TE, but I really think it's nonsense to say you need the old iron.
  10. A Trace 250w will pump out a sine at 250w without complaint. Your average 500w "RMS" class D will whimper quickly. Full expression of transient peaks from your Trace watts is a wonderful thing.
  11. I reckon the Labella 760FL will feel closest to home for you. Bloody fabulous strings!
  12. Wowsers! I'd expect a real dead turtle for that kind of money! (Joking, and I know I'm not helping)
  13. Yep, LHZ is the plan. I might also put the soapbar shaped EMG P & J pickups in too and stick the DCs in another bass. By the time I'm done with this bass I probably could have bought a used US one with exactly that configuration for the money I'll sink into it, but where's the fun in that?
  14. The best ones have a block at the front to hold the kick in place.
  15. Today
  16. It could also be worth considering the Total Harmonic Distortion level at both those stated RMS outputs. If the Trace output was increased so its THD matched the other amp, it may be closer to the 500 watts. (I wonder if an amplifier expert could comment please?).
  17. Only in Scotland.
  18. Go for it! I went out for a £40 Kay!
  19. This is interesting reading as I am just about to invest in a handheld recorders, probably a Zoom, to record rehearsals. A little simpler here as it's just bass, acoustic guitar and vocals. This might save me having to start a new thread...
  20. Peregrine and Meriadoc?
  21. One’s On The Way - Loretta Lynn
  22. We, Siren, played at The Constitutional Club in Chippenham Saturday night, crowd was a little on the small side but they responded well and made it a good night. Used my TT800 and BF big twin II, chose to use my surf green MIM P Bass which sat very nicely in the mix - bloody hot in there!
  23. Wow! Gut punch! If the fundamental technique isn't right the gear doesn't matter a jot.
