  1. Past hour
  2. Sent the last bit over as it finally cleared. Thanks again to all involved x
  3. It was a fretless Stingray, and I don't think any amps were involved - I remember reading a BP interview with Flea around the time that came out, and he talked about it, and that he went straight into the desk. In that isolated track, you can definitely hear that characteristic Stingray "thwp" when Flea hits his dead notes. I don't think it was as quick as they suggested though, because they didn't have much to work with - a basic arrangement, chords, drums and a vocal track, so Flea and Navarro had to work out the parts on the fly in the studio. Knowing Navarro, he was probably at the studio long after Flea had left, doing overdubs and fiddling with reverbs and delays. Most of the rest of the album was Lance Morrison, a prolific LA session player, on bass, but Chris Chaney played with her live for quite some time.
  4. In my experience, Pub Landlords tend to favour particular styles of bands , so if they like Punk /Ska music , they will book those type of bands . If you play more non mainstream music ( as we do ) , you tend to get the “ thanks for playing , here’s the money , goodnight “ treatment . I do sometimes wonder if we’re just cr@p , but we have over 200 years of combined musical experience, and lots of good feedback from the audience in general.
  5. There wasn’t a certificate with this particular bass it came with an inspection booklet with the serial number and the stickers, tags as pictured. There is also a paper serial number label under the control panel. I believe Hofner have recently started to include a certificate with all their basses and with the limited edition basses these can be hand signed, etc. however there wasn’t one included when I got this from GAK.
  6. If I understand correctly, the routed shape of the pickguard lifts away from the body as a separate piece. But it appears to match exactly to the surrounding wood of the bass body, implying it was cut from that wood. Assuming the cut didn't go all the way through the body, then the only way I could do this would be to assemble the top, cut the cover, glue the top to the rest of the body, route the cavity and when all is done put the cover on. Is that how it's done?
  7. Well he has been playing for over 40 years I believe. Ive only known him for 3 of those. I joined the band and I had a lot of work to put in. I was happy to put the work in to get them up to speed, but it seems he is so stuck in his ways that it will impact the band getting gigs. Having played the club/function scene for a good 20+ years I know the standard thats needed. All are competent players, but struggle with the fact that thy have to be professional about it if they want paid gigs.
  8. Some promoters are morons. We were playing a well known pub chain and the manager had to fight his way across the heaving dance floor to tell us he wanted us to play more danceable music!!! The dance floor was full, so we carried on with the set and everyone had a great night. . . . and we didn’t get rebooked!
  9. I have this one and definitely my favourite bass at the moment ....
  10. Thanks I think this it the best one I've done so far I draw out the body full size on inkscape then I cut it out with my laser engraver 👍🏻
  11. I use a very old and very mellow Ibanez chorus for occasional use only. The sort of songs it excels on have bassline with slow, melodic sections - What is and what should never be is an example, it makes the long, slow slides shimmer.
  12. Nile Rogers autobiography Le Freak is a good read. I've just finished reading Just Backdated by Chris Charlesworth, an account of his years working for Melody Maker in the early '70s. An excellent account if like me you were at an impressionable age at the time. I think I got it from @Mickeyboro
  13. Anyone got a decent French bow (ideally carbon) they want to swap for this carbondix German bow?
  14. State of play tonight. Most of the 'back end' connections are made, and after much cursing and struggling with inaccessible M3 fixings, the bias board is fitted. I'm not 100% happy that it's secure though and I may yet look at mounting it to the end of the chassis.
  15. I had a Flamed Sycamore custom lined fretless 4 string back in early 80's but moved it on. Wish i had kept it. Cost me £740 new. Happy days. 😂 They do make some wonderful looking and sounding basses. Don't get much better than WAL. Dave
  16. I have a Behringer PA amp. Very happy with it and slightly intimidated by all it's bi-amping and bridging possibilities. Fortunately I just need a basic stereo amp.
  17. Usually It's calendar issues, or venues changing hands
  18. In my old punk covers band The Daves we played a local venue where we went down amazingly. Unfortunately a lady and her husband that we knew had come to see us, she was very drunk and started a fight with him, yelling at him very loudly in the middle of the pub. When he left she started yelling at anyone who made eye contact she would fight them too. Her broad German accent made the behaviour even more noticeable in rural Watford. We could hardly say we didn’t know her as she had a Daves tee shirt on. No matter how many times we tried to get gigs they were always fully booked…..
  19. Likes a Phaser, started back in the 80's with an Amdek Boss-a-like Kit Likes a Joyo, have the 3 Knob Ironman Nebulous Phaser, (and the Rowin Nano) But this takes a battery... and was cheap! Not a fan of the Vintage Phase decal so scraped it off. Nice Single Knob Phaser, prefer Slow and Shallow these are not that overbearing on the depth.
  20. Interesting. I have a simila, but significantly lower intensity, high pitched whine on my Euro 5LX, which I assumed was a shielding issue and have been meaning to get looked at by a bass tech. Paging @cetera !
  21. Today
  22. I'd be interested in the body and hardware if you ever had the need to sell the neck separately. I'd imagine it'll all go in one though, so GLWTS 🙂
  23. I think that's it 100% 👍
