  1. Past hour
  2. Well it took a while to get an appointment but yesterday I had the customer impressions taken at Boots in Newcastle; the wait begins.
  3. Thanks very much, that was indeed the one, purchase just made
  4. I do expect to be corrected, but a distant memory says that there is only a small amp out of power available the USB being for communication rather than power.
  5. I've since learned about PA stuff to actually think he's a bit 'out there' on some points* but in the early days I learned loads from Dave Rat's youtube channel and RHCP tour blog. One of the things that stuck with me was "channel eq for the actual channel and mains eq for the room, you shouldn't really need to move the channel eq much from room to room". * I mean, I don't feel qualified to say he's wrong. He's mixed the biggest bands and the biggest venues all over the world and I ... haven't. But the dude is a little loopy.
  6. Just spotted this (via Danny Sapko). A LeCompte 31.18" scale (very precise?) but with a reverse headstock. Having never played a bass with a reverse headstock, do it have a noticeable impact on string feel/tension? I know some complain about the lower strings on short scales feeling a bit off.
  7. Do you own standing in the shadows of Motown? If not buy that book and a precision with flats and it will all make sense.
  8. Cocaine Blues - Johnny Cash
  9. Hi folks, Sorry if I've missed the answer to this somewhere else, but I am wondering if it is possible to power a travel router from the usb port on a xr18? Is anyone doing this, and if so what did you use? Thanks
  10. Mmmm.... Now that is a work of beauty. Lovely amounts of usage. No showroom queen (in a really good way), you'd have no issues using this. Thankfully I'm completely skint but that's a great looking bass.
  11. The Reading Costco is my local, it's a good one for cakes! Maybe a tray of those delicious croissants for anyone coming in from London? 😉
  12. Here’s the internals as they are currently configured. I’m unsure of the rating of the volume pot but I could simply switch out the push/pull for a 500k tapered pot
  13. I'm using a Truetone CS12 on my board, I swap the MXR Bass Synth and the Source Audio C4 in and out depending on my mood - I've still not settled on one - and it's been working fine. I think I'm using one of the 250mA outputs, but it might be 500mA one - it seems to be fine with the MXR. I'll double check which output I'm using later.
  14. Last night was the Victoria pub jam in Wokingham, which I think has been running on Thursdays for more than a decade. An enthusiastic group of core musicians - which is expanding - maintains house band duties and rotates, which means it feels fresh, and it's starting to attract - gasp - Gen Z (!!) - I know, I can't believe it either, until fairly recently all the jam nights I went to were pretty much my age (I can still pogo at 55!), but there's teens and twenty somethings taking the stage, and I'll tell you - some of them are excellent. Reading has a pretty active prog rock thing going on, and they're all young as anything! Anyway - I got pulled into 3 bands for the night, which is damn good, some great tracks. Highlight as ever was Let's Dance by Bowie - I LOVE the bass on that track. Bass was the Maruszczyk 5-string, and it absolutely nailed it, sounding amazing after the truss rod replacement earlier this year - this thing is now perfect! Effects was a cheap little AnnBlackBox from M-VAVE with the chocolate 4-button wireless controller - and you know what? It worked pretty well, especially as a quick setup system. Total cost of that system? A stripped down version of the Stomp HX for £75 all in including the 4-button switch, all running on batteries so no need to hunt for a PSU or use a full sized board. I'm warming to it for jam nights! Weirdest track I played was "the stealer" by free - check this bassline out, it's bonkers: The landlord has invested properly in live music - the pub's had a new PA this year, new bigger desk and speakers mounted on the walls which saves a lot of space. The venue also owns good kit for bass, guitar and drums. I think that makes a huge difference to the musicians running the event.
  15. I bought this a few years back from a BC member. When I bought it, it had been refretted, had a BadAss ii fitted and pickups and pots changed. I changed the Nordstrabd pickup for a more period correct Monty’s which is modelled after a 1970’s model. It sounds incredible and I love the neck. It’s a handful but not too wide at 40mm at the nut. It’s a heavy one at approx 11.5 lbs. Comes with a Mono bass sleeve. Can meet, or deliver within a sensible distance. Really don’t want to post it. Trades wise, Musicman Stingray 2/3 band eq considered with money my way .
  16. WOW that's some price for one of these amps. 1/3rd of the retail price. I looked at these before getting my Handbox WB-100 but the new price was way out of my range. So so envious of whoever buys this. Amp tubiness in abundance. GLWTS Dave
  17. Today
  18. A bit more Holland. From the 1984 Quintet album, 'Jumpin' In', I have transcribed the complete bass performance of the gorgeous ballad 'First Snow'. It's in 3:4 time but Holland has a very personal approach to the way the harmony sits and, more importantly, the way the form develops. Lots of material to think about here. It's a feature for Kenny Wheeler, one of the most creative players of his generation. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/first-snow-dave-holland-quintet/
  19. I just saw this post in another thread, I put in approximate dimensions of my cab and they quoted £55 for a basic level plywood cut to size. A 1220x604mm sheet of ply from wickes is £15 so you could maybe shop around for cheaper but cut to size is clearly available. This firm offer a 33% discount for 'trade' so it mught be worth someone trying to input their band as a business For information only though, I've never tried this firm
  20. Our two female singers have finally agreed to move over to custom IEMs (only took three years 😂). We’re heading down to the Custom IEM Company next month to demo a few entry level models, mainly looking at: Ultimate Ears UE5 64 Audio A3T JH Audio JH7 Cosmic Ears C3A Has anyone worked with female vocalists using any of these? I know it will be quite individual, but any experience or feedback would be super helpful. For female vocals, something with a bit of strength and presence in the upper mids would probably be ideal, so any insights on how these models handle that would be great.
  21. Also ordered a fret kisser. Just have to see whether I can rise above my normal level of incompetence at using luthier tools.
  22. Location: Teesside (N.E.)
