Blondie's Maria, and Madness's Baggy Trousers (and quite a few other songs I've played) have inversions of chords that will sound off if the Root note is played. Not wrong, just slightly off. A chord isn't a chord until the bass player says it is. 😉 Often guitarists will have downloaded tab that just includes the 1st inversion of the chord.

Hey guys, So, this is the older version of the combo, before the 700RBII. I’ve had it for over a year, after about 6 months the power board shorted out after not pressing in the power button fully. I took it to Taunton Audio Visual Services who managed to get it up and running again. About another 6 months later the same issue has happened again. I’ve since bought a replacement head and have been using the 210 exclusively via a speakon adapter and the cab works perfectly fine and sounds great. When the head was working it sounded even better! I’m offering this up as a repair for someone with the know how or knows someone who can help, and just as a good and solid 2x10 cabinet which can be used with any head with the adapter. The overall condition of the combo is pretty good for its age. The handle and wheels all work perfectly fine and there is no major cosmetic damage. This is a collection only from Bridgwater, Somerset. I can also meet up or deliver within a certain distance as well. Thanks, Josh.

What you are looking for is gain. A microphone puts out a few thousandths of a volt, a bass pickup a bit more, pre amps usually give you a bit of gain. 10x is not unusual in which case your few thousandths would become a few hundreths of a volt. Power amps tend to be looking for around 0.7 volts so little mixers or even big ones will put out at least this much and a bit more. Not all power amps are equal so some need a bit more than 0.7V which is usually described as line levelor 0db. Most of the multi-fx units will give you plenty of gain and amplify your bass up to line level and more. Many active speakers can be switched to take a mic level signal and you should be able to just plug your bass in and even have to turn it down a bit. But not all separate fx boxes will add enough gain to drive line level and not all active speakers will be guaranteed to have a mic level input (most do) so you will have to check. Your 2-3 channel mixer will give you all the gain and impedance matching you need but probably won't be necessary.

Perhaps. Since the lows from your own speaker radiate omnidirectionally they should not be in the monitors. The mids and highs are directional, so they should be in the monitors. For that reason the bass feed to monitors should be high passed at the transition frequency to directional, around 250 Hz.

Yes, I got my first advert from them for a while. I think they might be doing themselves a disservice by not saying in the email or anywhere in the website 'yes, we know we had a very public 3 month break but now we are back and are operating normally' rather than just not mentioning it and hoping everyone forgets!

Wish i had known you were there and would have dropped in for a bit. I usually see the band advertised on their sandwich board outside when i'm sitting in Costa coffee across the road but couldn't quite make out the name on the board. Maybe next time. What's the band name ? Dave

That's generously put Phil, thank you. But I think Doc J is also correct: sometimes it's a case of us being content to play something that "just works" rather than putting the time and effort to learn something trickier but ultimately truer to the what the original band intended, and frankly often just a much better bassline than the "flattened" / simplified version I've certainly been guilty of settling for! I'm not going to deny that I loved the appreciative smile from a pro guitarist who was depping for us for a function gig last year when he heard me playing the correct bassline on Go Your Own Way. And yes a few members of the audience do notice too!

Same. I think the video still holds up today too.

We have a Monzo account for band stuff. To be honest it makes things much easier. -
In general I think you want a stage sound which is brighter and less bassy than the out-front sound. That helps with both feedback and intonation. So it can be good to send a clean DI to the desk for out front, then use a stage amp that lets you roll off the bass while still sounding ok. You definitely want stage volume as low as can be managed - if there's a kit drummer that's a problem. In-ear monitors would be a big help.

How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
WalMan replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
We always aim for at least three at the start of each set to run together with minimal breaks and links where possible. Great but when everything is running tight like that in the set getting to water or swap a bass (not something I do much to maintain the set momentum) can be a trial. with luck there’ll be something where the bass doesn’t come in for the first verse 🫣🤣 - Today
