  1. Past hour
  2. This just arrived! I’m letting it warm up before I do a bit of a setup and clean. I couldn’t resist plugging it in - it’s going to be great fun. The circuit is original and therefore very dark - about like a P bass with the tone at 20%, when the tone on the Musicmaster is at max! Due to this there’s very little rf noise. It’s getting some heavy flats this afternoon!
  3. Apart from Statins, these days I don't know anyone who takes drugs. That wasn't always the case. Rock was all about excess and if you did it properly it was fun, although many didn't know when enough was enough and some died as a result, the 27 Club for example. The sensible ones just got high and didn't overdo it. I only ever saw one guy on hard drugs, an American keys player in my first pro band. We arrived in Amsterdam and he managed to find someone selling coke before the rest of us had even got out of the van!! The secret was to have a good time on joints and beer.
  4. Yep, back in the late 80s my then band were recorded for an ITV show. The footage of the other band that played that night went out, ours didn`t. When I saw it I realised why. We were dreadful, those "pints that made us play better" really let us down that night.

  6. I know I keep banging on about it but if you’re not finding the breakup to your liking you could set up the gain/output like you have with the expression pedal but assign to input level instead. I found it difficult to get a subtle breakup when digging in with out making the tone too dirty sometimes so that would give you a little more dynamic control over it. Because it’s tied to device input you don’t need to worry too much about compressor placement either.
  7. Boss ceb3 chorus ,vgc , will try and locate the box . postage inc
  8. Sorry, realised I didn't actually directly answer your question! I think the reason you couldn't really do this is that you would essentially be connecting your two expression control pots simultaneously, in parallel. This might initially seem like a good idea - you could then set the control pots as required to get any desired mixture of envelope and external expression control - nice idea, eh? There's a problem though: if you set one of them to maximum and the other to minimum, you would be shorting the 5v expression voltage directly to ground through the wipers of the two pots - bad! With some tweaking to the circuit I'm sure this could be made to work, but it would require someone a bit more competent at electronics than me to figure it out 😄
  9. You're right about the savings on imported goods being minimal. That was my experience when I recently bought an Aguilar pickup set from Sweetwater in the USA - and that was only because I was able to get a really cheap international delivery with a US delivery broker called PirateShip. I ordered and paid for the set online, had it delivered to a friend in California and she dropped it off at her local Post Office. As you say, doing this is really a last-resort way of getting something that's not available in the UK/EU - like the Aguilar pickups and the made-for-Japan Mustang. You're also right about the warranty. Danny at Bass Japan Direct confirms that there would be no warranty, which is why he inspects and sets up all basses before he exports them. The price he quoted includes his £70 service charge.
  10. Thanks, Mokl. I was running two as a vertical stack – best live sound I've ever had!
  11. The DM610 is a large bookshelf/standmount speaker from renowned hi-fi brand B&W, featuring a well-braced 30-litre sealed cabinet with 8-inch mid-bass driver. The larger driver and extra cabinet space create a much better low end range than from most similar speakers. This model allows for either bi-wiring or bi-amplification. These speakers present clean tight bass response, surprisingly clear mids for such a large driver and the pleasant highs that the well-designed B&W tweeter at that time was famous for. They can be driven quite loud, enough for the physical effect of the bass to be felt without audible distortion or a sense of sound compression. Both speakers are in Very Good condition, especially for their vintage. All-original, complete with full grilles (one of which has a small hole, shown in the final photo). Only £125. Collection from Bournemouth BH6 preferred. Here comes the science bit… Type: 2-way closed, shelf speaker Colour: Ash black veneer Dimensions: 490 x 236 x 303 mm (H x W x D) Weight: 7.8 kg Recommended amplifier power: 30-150 W Frequency response: 70 - 20,000 Hz (±2 dB) Crossover: 2500 Impedance: 4 Ohm
  12. PS Soul Food comes with supplied power adaptor (hence the larger box)
  13. thanks for all your replies, as I've said I already have a graphic equaliser, a Kenwood KE 2060, which is in the amps tape loop, I only really use it to cut around the 1k mark, especially on CD's, which seem worse for the, what I can only be described as fizz, which also makes the bass stand out more, I'm a believer in cutting what you don't want rather than boosting what you do. So I thought if I could get an amp with a mid tone control I could get rid of it, but it look like there isn't one, so I'll stick with what I've got
  14. Mrs Zero had hers done at the end of June last year, so I have some direct second-hand experience.
  15. It is mainly fun....trying not to fall out with 8 other souls!!!
  16. Back in the early 90s we thought that in order to impress a number of scouts (that's record company ones, not boys in shorts) we'd need to be uninhibited and exciting on stage. Which of course meant about 6 pints and a noseful of coke each. We played abysmally... We never saw any scouts again! But saying that, in the same band we'd always have some weed at rehearsals and gigs (actually, weed wasn't that available - it tended to be more of the soapbar solid variety which meant it wasn't usually very strong compared to the skunk available nowadays!). And we played well - our live recording in our living room still sounds OK now! (If you want a laugh! ) However, I have a max of 1 beer (*) before playing now, and haven't smoked any dope in decades! *that's often due to driving though - recent gig in Chester saw at least 2 pints and a good glug of tequila before playing as the hotel was only 100m away! No decent cock-ups either...
  17. Check very carefully on pack up, the forensics might give away that non-domestic activities may have taken place. A great account of the build, inspiring for warmer weather.
  18. Telecaster by Upbeat Guitars. UK made Here we have a beautiful; Telecaster built in the UK by Upbeat Guitars. It is in pristine condition, despite being 10 years old! The body is one piece ash with a maple neck. Pickups are both genuine Fenders, with a single coil in the bridge plus a nice fat Texas humbucker in the neck position. Expect every sound possible from a country twang through to the hard rock of Led Zeppelin 1 (recorded on a Tele). New set of D’addarioio strings on. No case and no trades thanks. Price when it was new was £499. Yours for only £300 Chaddesden, Derby All proceeds will go towards a charity for the homeless in Derby and a Home for street kids in Bogota, Colombia.
  19. Thanks man. Its between 16.5/17mm spacing
  20. No point in naming an animal if it won't come when you call. Cats have their own names and they'll never tell. That said, Pixel is my favoured name for small felines, after The Cat Who Walks Through Walls.
  21. Bretheren, My Fender American Standard 4 string Jazz is extremely dark sounding and I just can't brighten it at all. Spec: Fender 9050 flatwounds - I won't change these as they're all I use POI Cap Solderless Controls - I informed the builder I was after warm vintage tones and he recommended the POI Tonerider Classic Pickups As a comparison, I have a Fender 70's Vintera Jazz which is far less bassy sounding. Spec: Fender 9050's Orange Cap Solderless Controls Standard Vintera Pickups A few questions: *Should I consider fitting Orange Cap controls to the AM to brighten it a bit? *If not, what are a good set of brighter passive pickups? I'm liking the brightness of the Dimarzio Ultra Jazz set after watching a few vids. Any experience with these using flats? Cheers, George
