ambient Posted February 26, 2016 Share Posted February 26, 2016 I had a polytune clip, it worked well but you can't rotate it, so it wasn't any good for my bass. I use a Planet Waves mini one. It's tiny and very unobtrusive, tracks well even on the low B. It's small but can still be seen easily enough. Posted February 26, 2016 Share Posted February 26, 2016 TC & their Polytune range seem to be absolutely owning the tuner world at the moment; I very much like my pedal so I'd guess their clip-on is good too. It's great the clip-ons are getting better nowadays but one downside I've noticed is people using them at gigs keep forgetting to turn-down/mute their basses & guitars - I can't stand "The Tuning Song"! When the time comes to change the battery you'll find it costs more than a replacement tuner. There must be thousands of them lying around in kit bags.. Both are brilliant and work very quickly and accurately using a 12th fret harmonic even on a B string. I got annoyed with the plastic clip on the Planet Waves as my main bass has contoured edges on the headstock and it would ping off randomly. The clip on the TC unit is miles better. NoirBass Posted February 26, 2016 Share Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) Just my two peneth: I've bought the Korg Pitchclip, TC Polytune clip and the Planet Waves nano. For me the best of the 3 is the Korg. The TC works great on guitar but the poly tuning is redundant on bass and it struggles to track my E string let alone a low B. The Nano I found too small and the proof of that is that I managed to loose it - worked well until then though. So given that the Korg tracks all my bass (4 and 5 strings) no problem and is considerably cheaper than the TC it gets my vote. [/quote]This. I have one which is great but don't have any other means of muting out which is incredibly useful so the Planet Waves floor wart stays for now. I've borrowed them and they seemed fine for bass, including low B. However, when I looked them up on line, there are so many models! Not sure which ones I borrowed..... The only issue with the clip style tuner is it staying on the headstock (especially with a 2x2 headstock!). EmmettC Posted February 26, 2016 Share Posted February 26, 2016 Another one for the polytune clip, the only clip on the picks up the low B reliably. I have quite a few other clip on tuners around the house but none of the others are as fast or accurate as the tc. I still always use a TU2 for gigs though, I think it looks wierd having a nice instrument with a piece of plastic hanging from it at a gig. [/quote] That is genius ! I sold mine because it wouldn't fit on the headstock of my Roscoe, not so that I could see it anyway, and the display doesn't rotate.
