The bass is a dog & a half. That solid black on the forearm contour suggests it's plywood, not basswood but hard to tell given the blow torch relic job. Hi Paul, not the body, but the neck could be, spent hours trying to verify it but no constructive evidence. In all, far superior to the Mexican road worns costing hundreds more. The headstock logo is from the late 50s, silver spaghetti type and usually on the 50s reissues but the machine heads dont look like anything Ive ever seen on a Fender. On a 75 bass I would expect to see the large font "TV" style logo with "Fender Precision Bass" written almost full length of the headstock, also the machine heads would have a large plate stamped with Fender on. The neck plate should also be stamped with a large F too? Do you know if these are original to the bass at all? I'd like to bid but would like to make sure of the origins of the bits thanks. purpleblob Posted February 13, 2011 Share Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) What the hell is this thing with relic'd - on a new instrument I take it this means it's made to look road worn on purpose, on an old instrument surely it cannot be relic'd as such isn't damage to the paintwork or whatever just an instrument that's been badly looked after ? As for the ad. itself - I know nothing about Fenders, but the pictures are bang out of order and totally misleading if this is not a 100% Fender as seems to be the case. I know it's "buyer beware" situation but a Fender headstock logo a massive Fender back drop in one pic. to reinforce this idea and the "comes with original Fender case" plus the "hardware is genuine" are all designed to trick the unsuspecting. Bassassin Posted February 13, 2011 Share Posted February 13, 2011 Well, the listing's been pulled now - I think he might have sussed he'd been rumbled, and even tracked this discussion down. It's anyone's guess what the parts actually were, but the body (and probably the neck) is a cheap copy of indeterminate age - plywood or butcher block at best, the black oversprays on the contours are always a giveaway, you never see these on a solid timber body. The neck has a Gibson-type nut, glued-on fretboard and I'd speculate the odd positioning of the tuners is because it's originally had small holes (for the enclosed tuners common on 70s/80s Jap & Korean low-ends) which have been ineptly enlarged. You'll notice the tuners are all spaced differently as a result. As I said, a filthy old piece of burnt plywood junk, not worth more than £50.
