Played a Windmill Spitfire once in MM bridge, P neck - worked really well.

P/J seems to cover most things though.

What is it you're doing; having a bass made?

Depends on your musical style, MM/MM is a big old sound, had a Bongo for a good few years, still wish i'd not sold it.

Yeah im looking at getting somthing from warmoth, i dont have any places nearby that have a wide selection of bass's to try out.
im looking for a more funky style sound.

I always thought the configuration on some Warrior basses was pretty good. A big MM style humbucker with a jazz bar at the bridge beneath it. As a Warrior owner once said to me "just think, when do you ever solo the neck pickup on a jazz bass?".

Made perfect sense to me and I'm surprised more people don't use this configuration!

Precision pickup in the middle, MM in the bridge position for me!

Whenever I play a jazz with a pick? Ok, technically not entirely solo'd, as I'll put a little of the bridge pickup in, but mostly neck pickup.

Funnily enough, that's one of my favourite tones but only on more 'substantial'-feeling jazzes. The neck pup on a chunky jazz bass like my ash CIJ 75 is firkin' lush!
