  1. Revisiting the Boss ODB-3......I mean it's crappy stock, but have ordered the Monte Allums Tri-Gain Mod kit to aid with that issue haha.
It's Boss, so features and functions are excellent, but hopefully this mod will make it more than useable sound wise!

Getting it all in before 2019 eh? ;)

I modded my ODB-3 a few years back with the Wampler mods; switch to choose clipping diodes and switch to select input caps. I found that switching to different diodes made the overdrive signal separate from the clean. So when blending it sounded like two signals overlaid.

  2. Right, I know of a few people, but who's at NAMM in a couple of weeks?

  5. Still looking for a Bartolini Precision pickup to borrow for a few days if anyone has one in a drawer somewhere :)

  6. They're heeerreeee, NBD thread up :)

  7. Uh-oh, sent an email about a bass! 🙈

Then it must be a Lakland, surely? 🧐

@CameronJ Similar......although currently a minor procedural stumble at the deposit stage

  8. Unexpected (a cheap, pre-ACG, impulse buy) NBD pending, let the guessing commence haha

  9. What do Limelight Precision’s tend to come in at new nowadays?

      Roughly waist level?

My only frame of reference is a J bass from 2018 that was just over £1,100.  Had a maple blocked and bound neck that would have added a few £s to the price I guess.

You can get a Squier upgraded with a fake Fender logo on it for a couple of hundred quid.

  10. After loving the album since I was a kid, I've had to finally learn Diamonds On The Souls Of Her Feet for a first dance. Such a banger!

Hey my dad used to play this in the car all the time too! Fantastic album, I watched a great documentary about the making of it recently too (Under African Skies). Loved the Bass + vocals version, I never heard that before.

"I was 8 when this came out and I remember even then tuning into the bass line."

Ouch!  I was 35, but I still loved (and love) the bass line.  That is a great version @Rich, thanks!

    4. Rich

      Rich

The more I listen to this, the more I love the bassline. It's perfect. Bakithi absolutely nailed it... well let's face it, he and his knackered old Washburn bass pretty much own the whole album!

And yeah, thanks guys for making me feel so old... 👴

  11. Anyone around the High Wycombe/ Bucks  area got a rectangular guitar box that would be suitable for shipping a bass?

    1. ratman

      ratman

I've got 2 rectangular guitar boxes I need to get shot of. One is 122 x 52 x 20cm, the other is 125 x 50 x 18cm. I'm a little further away in London N4, but if either are any use to you give me a shout.

  12. Assuming you wanted the bass, would you buy a 5 string that weighed 10.4lbs?

I regularly carry anything up to 16kg on my shoulder, so 4.7kg (10.4lbs) probably wouldn't be an issue for me.

Thanks all, it’s been interesting to see a range of opinions on this. Think I’m sorted now 🙂

  14. Been playing my Lakland 55-01 almost exclusively over the last couple of weeks (through necessity for an upcoming gig), and it's just brilliant. These hit so far above their weight for the money!!

The US models have a much more vast selection of woods available to choose from, quarter-sawn necks (more stable) etc etc. But they can cater for a lot more than I think people realise, so for example; want your 55-02 but with two humbuckers instead of the J, or a P and a humbucker, or three humbuckers!?! They'll likely be able to hook you up with a custom 55-94. Want a passive 44-94 with a P/J setup, they'll build it.....that's what I got :). They built a very cool short-scale Decade with MM/J pickups for a guy in america, sonic blue colour, no scratch plate, looks like the lovechild of a 44-94 & a Decade, really cool.

    3. jonnypf

      jonnypf

Sure, they have amazing custom options etc, I mean more in terms of pure function. It's hard to beat the 55-02 for what I want in a 5 string, especially with the US pickups & pre-amp, it being pleckd, then getting installed/finished/QC'd in Chicago.

I am SURE if I had the spare cash I could easily find something truly amazing from Lakland USA!

    4. Sibob

      Sibob

Oh absolutely, don't get me wrong, the Skyline stuff, for the most part, is amazing if the spec fits your needs.  I would only 'upgrade' my 55-01 to a custom 55-94 with two humbuckers if I had a fair bit of money to burn.......which is never going to be the case I imagine haha, just because the 55-01 is excellent.

  15. Did anyone just pick up that 1978 natural Precision from Andy Baxter? Looked like a really decent one!

  17. Had my Serek out for a gig on Saturday just gone. While I KNOW it's an amazing bass....it never fails to surprise me how good it actually is, how fun it is. Love it! Was a fantastic gig!

Are you looking for a set Si, or just curious about them?

  21. Is anyone planning on going to Bass Direct this week?

  22. Learning the tune 'Total Praise' for a gospel'y type gig later this month (new to me, it's like someone who doesn't believe in Spiderman learning the Spiderman theme).
Definite 5 string city, needs more chords though*..........

    *it doesn't need more chords

Yes of course there would.  But it would be from his supporters.  It's probably about the only thing he could do to seriously alienate them.

  24. Long-shot, but anyone in South Bucks (High Wycombe way) have a Spector Euro or Rebop 4 string? I’d love to try one out!

Slightly down-market, but I have a Spector Performer (Indonesian) for £200; I'm in Bracknell.

This is just an alternative plan B to shipping a bass 🙂. I’ll likely just post it as we’ve discussed!

      Thanks though!
