  1. Wow we are on page 2 and no one has said Jaco Pastorius by Jaco Pastorius yet... i would also put in Voodoo by D’Angelo - Pino’s playing on this is insane. i would also throw in American Elm - Janek Gwizdala, the more I listen to this album the more I realise that the bass in just an instrument, and it doesn’t restrict what musical choices we have to make.
  2. Does anyone have some real life experience with the REDDI? I am thinking of getting one but it’s a lot of money to shell out when I don’t really know if I am going to get a decent return. I would be using it for live and recording. I currently use the Aguilar Tone Hammer DI. If I could get some feedback that would be great, even better if some one in Scotland has one they would let me try that would be amazing! Cheers
  3. Evan Marien was advertising Skype lessons for a while. The guy is a modern master and seems like a cool guy!
  4. I was in the same position as you, and after playing as many compressor as I could get my hands on I went for the Cali76 CB. I don’t regret it for a second. It’s expensive but it’s worth every penny! The High Pass Filter and the dry blend is what really stands this compressor out from the crowd. I am very happy with it, and would highly recommend!
  5. Another great transaction from Lozz. Deal with confidence, great communication, great packaging, fast delivery. Thanks again!

  7. Dave, let us know when the band gets up and running, and I will come along to one of your gigs, I’m in Glasgow.
  8. Hindsight by Bob Reynolds. Incredible record!
  9. Janek Gwizdala - Mystery to Me Snarky Puppy - we like it here John Mayer - Continuum
  10. Generally the Aguilar goes for between £170 / £180, and the shure in-ears sell for £100. So I’m pretty happy with the deal. Basically got the in-ears for free.
  11. I got an Aguilar octave pedal for £100, and a set of entry level shure in ear monitors for £70 both from Guitar guitar. I’m happy!
  12. I totally agree! He annoys the hell out of me, and I dislike his tone! And also agree about Adam Neely, I think Adams channel is my favourite on you tube.

  14. I would suggest trying to find an informal band and start playing with other people as soon as possible. If you wait until you think you are ready you can end up waiting far too long. Plus playing with other musicians will help you progress so much quicker than practice alone.
  15. If anyone is looking for a new place to buy their strings I can highly recommend strings direct. I had a dud E string that snapped before it was at tension. I emailed to ask if they sold single strings in that brand. They didn’t sell them but they went one better. They sent me out a new string for free including next day delivery! Great service! I will be using them as my sole string provider now!
  16. Janek does have a sight reading course in his bass studio website. Janek’s bass studio is really good, quite expensive when you compare it to Scott’s Bass Lessons, but if you like Janek’s teaching style it’s definitely worth it!
  17. I agree with most comments I use my pinky more than my ring finger especially when string skipping. Almost always use it for playing octaves. When playing guitar I definetly use the finger per fret technique, but definetly not on bass. Keep practicing and the calluses will come!
  18. To me it looks mainly like right hand muting. He rests his thumb on the E string to mute that. Then he is resting his ring / middle finger on the string lower (in pitch) than the string he is playing. I have never enjoyed his videos as I really don’t like his tone, but fair play to him he is making a decent living for himself on you tube doing what he loves!
  19. I have been trying to find a way to get one of these in the UK. It’s not been the easiest task!
  20. I would agree, push to bin it. Also I would suggest to your band that without keys pulling off any snarky puppy song would be a huge task, and the song would probably sound very thin, as the bass is doubled by atleast one synth for the most part. Don’t worry about the talent ceiling, keep doing what your doing and you will be able to play anything you want.
  21. We use a Facebook group chat. We all suggest 3 songs, and majority rules (4 out of 6), however any member can veto a song if they really dont want to play it...it’s an unwritten rule that they can’t do this too often.
  22. Thanks Ambient for sharing Michael’s notes. I also think a good point was made that if you can play Sir Duke you definetly have the chops to play what about me. The real question comes down to the fact you don’t want to play it, in which case I would discuss this more in depth with your band. My other suggestion would be to play a simplified version and let the keys player beef out the sound.
  23. Aretha Franklin’s version of Jumpin’ Jack Flash is one of my favourite covers...
  24. I think Larry La Londe of Primus is really under rated. When I saw Primus a couple of years ago he really stole the show! His textural playing is outstanding!
