1.
Another tip. After I sold the SL112s I got a pair of Eden EX112s. They're a massively underrated cabs. Used that rig for a couple of years and only once at a massive festival stage it felt slightly underpowered. Played loads of gigs with the Tone Hammer and the two little Eden cabs and can't really complain about it.
Thanks for the advice. I will have a look at the edens.
2.
If you are near Glasgow, the guy in Guitar Guitar is trying to assemble a decent bass section, it's now got the whole basement floor. He had some pretty decent amps in when I was last in. Could phone and ask about Aguilar? They only have a cab on the website but means they do stock them
That's awesome to know cheers. I am in Glasgow, but wouldn't have thought of guitar guitar because last time I was there they barely had anything except practice amps on display.
3.
I'm another one that would suggest looks at different cabs - if you like the TH sound then by all means get the amp but I found the cabs to have a loose bottom end & to be a bit muddy. They are built well & look nice but I think there are better cabs out there especially given how much the SL112s cost! But we're all different & you may love the way they sound so take all this with a pinch of salt.
Thanks, I'm really grateful for all the input, as I live in Scotland it's really hard to find anywhere to actually try decent bass gear. The one thing I did see on the other thread was that I could get a clean sounding amp and use my tone hammer pedal to get the TH tone when I need it. Anyone got any recommendations for a clean amp?
4.
There is a topic on this only about 4 topics below your post http://basschat.co.uk/topic/302297-aguilar-tone-hammer-350-500-big-price-difference-why/
Thanks, I had seen this post it's mainly talking about the differences between the amps. I'm trying to get some real experience with the 350, what sort of size venues did it work for etc.
5.
I used to own the TH500 and two SL112s. My advice is: Spend your money with the TH500 and get another cab. There's lots of great second hand cabs here that are cheaper and way better than the SL112 in my opinion.
Hi thanks for the input. Was there something in particular you didn't like about the SL cabs? I have seen on other forums the Tone Hammer can get a bit muddy with certain cabinets?
6. Hi folks, I recently acquired a Aguilar Tone Hammer pedal and I absolutely love the tone I can get with it. So now it's time to get a new gigging rig and I am thinking of getting a Tone Hammer head and a SL112 Cab. I can't really find any good info on the web about the 350. Has anyone got any experience with it? Did you get it and then instantly think maybe I should have got the 500? With the recent price hike I'm really hoping to hear good things about the 350. Thanks
7. The dude is properly talented, and his band can PLAY
8. It all depends on the sound I am going for. On my p bass I prefer the dead thud so a set of chromes will last a couple of years. If you still want a bit of a brighter tone and you are recording I would be changing them just as often as round wounds. But it's totally subjective.
9. Love them, been hooked since day one. Janek and Bob Reynolds are 2 truly inspiring people. I love their content.
10.
Oc2 and afrantabit he has a video on YouTube showing ir
He definitely not using the OC2 for this as the OC2 only has 2 sub octaves. As I said above it's definetly the boss PS5 supershifter, with the iron ether frantabit before the PS5 in the signal chain.
11.
No, no no! Go and sit on the naughty step and think about what you just wrote.
Each to their own. I love the postal service version too, But the is something I love about the sound of the deadened piano.
12. Dirty loops - Baby, Ben Folds - Such great heights, Rage Against the Machine - Renegades of Funk
13. I use them on my 35" scale fretless, I love flatwound chromes on my p bass but thought they were too dull on my fretless, so it sat unplayed for a year after i bought it. I saw the half rounds and though I will give them a bash. I love them much brighter sound they feel nice and slinky. I would definitely recommend trying them!
14. Recently been using Andertons, really good service, answered email questions quickly, and sent and packaged well
15. He uses a boss ps5 super shifter (now discontinued) he also has a bit crusher usually either the iron ether frantabit or the bug brand bit crusher (both no longer made) and the tc electronic nova repeater delay (discontinued) in the signal chain. In his vlog #5 he really details how to get that sound.
16. You can call me Al - Paul Simon, it's so good! Cheese Gold!
17.
Great video from Scott on how he reproduces sound of James Jamerson: https://youtu.be/WkJ4y30-6ek
I really enjoyed this too.
18. I'm with ambient on this one. Muting is a 2 hand job. I think at least 50% of my muting comes from my left hand, whether it's fretting with the pads of my fingers using the tip to mute the string above, or mainly fretting with my first finger then using my middle and ring fingers to mute
19. I think as I have gotten older I appreciate flea's tone less and less. When I was a teenager and californicaton was out I loved that brash beat the hell out of the bass tone, now my ear drifts towards a bit of a smoother tone.
20. That's my bid in...been wanting an acg for years
21. Thanks guys for the response. I have seen them live a few times and yeah I've watched funky monks a couple of hundred times. It's crazy how tight they are as a band to adjust to each other's playing. Because only hearing the bass it sounds pretty sloppy and lose, then going back to the album it sounds awesome.
22. Hmm is there any way to know the authenticity of this? Is this the actual album track. Listening closely the seems to be a lot of rushing the beat etc.
23. I'm agree with Bubinga5 and say Pino Palladino, but Mike League has to be up there to even if just for his awesome bass face.
