A lot of weight "issues" can be solved with a good strap. I used to find a three hour practice tough, then I bought a well padded neoprene strap and have no issues at all now.

Going to hazard a guess that maybe a few little fluffs here and there could maybe be down to the fact that these guys were playing a tribute gig to their mate. Their (very recently) dead mate. Their dead mate whose songs they were playing. Their dead mate whose songs they were playing for the first time without him. But that's probably crazy talk, musicians are robots after all.

I really agree with Stylon Pilson. Particularly about the "childish", "zany" drummer. As a 30-something professional this just screams "avoid, avoid, avoid".

I am fairly regularly astounded at how bad a lot of for sale posts are. Blurry (or no) pictures, no suggestion of where the seller is, no description, etc etc. The second hand market is really struggling just now, why people aren't making more effort I do not know. If a seller can't be bothered to take photos that are in focus for a bass that they're asking £££ for then I'm not sure I trust them to be bothered to pack it properly either.

I've only ordered one thing from them but it ended with disastrous customer service so I'm avoiding them now.

Gear4music have loads of broken stuff for sale, all of it at ludicrous prices. I don't get it.

People massively overstate the risks of ebay. I've got well over 300 transactions on there and have been ripped off precisely zero times. Don't really understand the whining about fees either, you can see exactly what they are, its not like they are hidden anywhere.

Running a compressor before the octave may help, particularly with the sustained notes. Unfortunately, though, analog octavers tend not to be able to handle polyphony so the chords may have to go.

In 2016 there are, effectively, infinite numbers of bass guitars out there. Why settle for an ugly one that plays and sounds nice when you could find a pretty one that sounds and plays nice?

Lessons will be worthwhile- you may be doing something that makes it hard on yourself, plus it will give some focus to your practice. Also, the action on your bass- it may be worth the short term hit of sounding a bit crap whilst you get used to it in return for the long term gain of progress. Not all benefits are immediate, unfortunately.

Don't care. People get way too precious about this kind of thing.

I've got one, easily the equal of a squier or similar. Proper chunky neck though.

How long a loop time do you need? Do you need to be able to add multiple loops or is one enough? If multiple loops, do you need to be able to delete loops but keep the others playing?

Let's not forget that the original stereotype of the band playing behind chicken wire is an American one. Not sure where you guys are gigging to drunken violent mobs but it's not a scene that I recognise in the slightest.

The Beatles were game changing in many ways but that doesn't mean they should be on a pedestal, immune from criticism. They churned out some utter drivel in places---Maxwell's Silver Hammer, anyone?---and got up to some right pretentious nonsense from time to time. I "wasn't there" but I get their importance. I also wasn't there when Bach was doing his thing but I get that too. Doesn't mean I listen to either particularly often. Other things are more exciting to me.

One possibility for the pickup feedback problem is that the pickup has gone microphonic. I suspect this is unlikely and it was actually caused by the other problems you were experiencing but it may be worth checking out.
