This happened to me once before. No parcel, no note to say I had customs charges to pay, Royal Mail and Parcelforce unable to tell me location of item or indeed whether or not it even existed. 6 weeks later it was delivered back to the sender (in the US) covered in Parcelforce stickers saying "recipient refused to pay customs charges". I hope you have more luck than I did.
I use a 9v 100ma multi-power supply which works fine with my Behringer tuner, Boss Limiter/ Enhancer and two EHX pedals.... Something's telling me trying to solve this will be more faff than its worth.
Is that a typo or is that really a 100mA power supply? Because you'll possibly struggle to power four or five pedals (depending on what they are) with 100mA. Have you tried the Behringer Chorus with the power supply on its own and nothing else plugged in?
don't forget about VAT and import duty if you buy from Japan, I looked at it once, I found that the savings weren't that great when everything was totted up, you need to do the maths first, plus if anything goes wrong you're more or less on your own
For me the attraction of importing is to get something that isn't otherwise available. Cost wise, you're right that often you don't save much at all but the Japanese market tends to have a lot of things that are like hens teeth in Europe.

Working out bass parts by ear - any tips/methods?
uncle psychosis replied to Naetharu's topic in General Discussion
Mainly because quite often the bass tracks (at least on noisy rock-style songs) are buried deep in the mix.
The best thing I've ever been shown was to use an editor (I use Audacity) to shift the whole track up an octave. It makes the vocals and other instruments sound ridiculous but it normally makes the bass part jump out of the mix. Combined with slowing the track down (which you can also do in Audacity) this makes learning lines much, much easier. -
FFS Blue, that's an opinion, not a fact.
Blue, rather demonstrably, doesn't seem to know the difference.
take it the step further.....sit at home in front of your DAW writing stuff.....take the recordings to band practice....get the rest of the band to play them....then gig them.... anything less is only doing half the job
I completely disagree. Look, I love gigging. Its great fun. But this "you have to gig or else you're not doing it properly" is nonsense. Most of us knows someone who loves cooking, but we'd never dream of telling them that cooking for their own enjoyment isn't a valid way to spend their time. When I go home and make a delicious pizza for my dinner tonight I won't need someone else to taste it to get enjoyment from it. "Unless you're cooking in a restaurant then it doesn't count" is basically what some of you are saying and its bollocks.
You have touched on multiple issues here. OK, "taking the easy way out" may have been a little harsh. But isn't sitting in your bedroom playing easier than dealing with all the issues the gigging bass guitarist has to deal with?
Gigging bass guitarists who only play other people's songs have taken the easy way out compared to the home musician who is trying to compose his own music and master recording, IMO. Churning through a 12 bar blues or an AC/DC number is a piece of piss compared to the inner workings of a DAW. I think you really need to change your name from Blue to Black or White, because that's how you seem to see every single topic ;-)

Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
uncle psychosis replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
Thanks Andy and Uncle for your replies! I will try and get some copper tape and do the job
Be warned that shielding it still might not fix it completely. Single coil pickups like you get on Jazz basses will always be susceptible to hum and in many ways its part of the "charm" . You may also be able to reduce the interference by removing the source---other electronic equipment (especially TVs or monitors) can cause interference and dimmer switches on lights are notorious for it. Good luck! -
Might be. I did try to find info on the net and most say that if there is hissing when you touch the metal parts its grounding issue and if there is hissing when you have no contact with the metal parts is a shielding issue. But I have no idea about this so all input is welcome!
If its buzzing when you *aren't* touching anything then you are correct that it is almost certainly a shielding issue. You'll probably also be able to hear that the buzzing sound changes or goes away if you move around the room or rotate on the spot. -
That is seriously awesome.

Thomann sell a few different branded ones that are just rip-offs of the pedaltrain design from what I can see. Digging around in their pedal board section should bring them up.

Bass pedals Vs guitar pedals? Any real difference?
uncle psychosis replied to operative451's topic in Effects
...And additionally, apparently bass amp speakers have a frequency response of between 2.5khz and 7khz so actually there's little point in a high sample rate anyway! Argh!
The sampling rate frequency (44kHz / 96kHz) and the frequency response of the speakers are not to be confused. They have the same units but mean completely different things. You need a high sampling rate to make sure your analogue to digital conversion doesn't lose any audible information (google the Nyquist sampling theorem to find out why). The frequency response of your speakers just tells you the range of frequencies your bass amp operates over. -
The new Line6 Helix looks awesome but it is not cheap.
For me a feeler is sale if you get the right price...if not, you'll keep it.
That's how all sales work.

Time wasters are a pain in the arse but they won't be put off by "no time wasters" because they're muppets. That's part of the problem.
Are any deko owners having buyer remorse? My acoustic fretless 4 is nice and the only work that needs doing is the high action / nut slot deepening..... Fighting with myself whether I can justify keeping it (too many basses, and others are objectively better instruments)!!! Anyone else have this "problem"?
I bought one of the Mosrite Baritones. I really like it...but it has two niggles that need me to do actual proper tech work to it and I'm really frustrated with it. I'm tempted to rage-quit it, sell it, and buy a more expensive baritone. -
Eagerly awaiting my bespoke P-bass!
This is why I went down the Maruszczyk route. Fender CS / US Lakland quality, and bespoke, for MIM money.
Please stop posting pictures of that. My bank manager doesn't like it. -

Can you really not get that colour combo on a standard Fender? Wow. Personally if I were going bespoke I'd get a more unusual finish but it's your bass get what you like :-) Enjoy! -
First public appearence - what to play?
uncle psychosis replied to Bobthedog's topic in General Discussion
Don't play Dakota. Please. If only because you don't want the answer to "what was your first gigging experience" to involve the words "Dakota" or "Stereophonics". Nothing wrong with taking a cheat sheet on stage. I've done it at gigs for songs I was unsure of, you don't need a music stand. Just a piece of A4 paper and a permanent marker, write the chords out nice and big on the page and place it at your feet. If you're only doing one or two songs you'll only need a single sheet and no one in the audience will know its there. -
I think these look fantastic and are definitely the kind of thing I could see myself owning in the future. £1000+ is too much for my blood but hopefully it will be a success and the technology will drop in price. The workflow and routing options alone are worth a fair chunk of cash.

Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
uncle psychosis replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
My PB50 came today. I've only had about ten minutes with it but I can't find anything at all "wrong" with it. The neck seems straight, the relief is ok, a little bit of fret buzz but I'm heavy handed and that's a common occurance for me and new basses. Lovely bit of wood, the electronics work and it sounds decent. The only things that let it down are a really cheap looking pickguard, the pots are a bit uneven in terms of travel and the tuners are really stiff (but seem to hold tune OK). Hardly a problem on a cheap bass. I'd want to do a more thorough inspection but I reckon I could gig this as is. This also came with a cable, Allen keys, daddario strings, and a Wilkinson pickup... ... and after using my thomann review voucher cost me £8.80 delivered. Blinkin' 'eck. -
Small combo choices for woodwind bands
uncle psychosis replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've got a Warwick Blue Cab 20 which might fit the bill, if you can find one. Its got a ported 10" cabinet, built-in tilt-back stand, 3 band EQ, passive/active inputs, FX loop, 20W of very nice sound, line out, headphone out, and weighs about 15kg. I bought mine as a practice amp but I reckon it would be ace for use in a small ensemble of woodwinds. -
Looks fantastic :-) ... Aren't you the guy who claimed not to like precisions? ;-) I'm waiting on my £8.80 (delivered) Harley Benton arriving. Would be interesting to compare them ;-)
Got my shipped email at 9pm on Tuesday, wonder if it's travelling with uncle psychosis's bass?
My shipped email was first thing yesterday. Guessing it'll be delivered on Monday. -
Oh yeah, any mention of that kind of stuff is instant invalidation from me. Somewhere between Germany and the UK...
