1. No, never did :-( I've basically stopped gassing for basses since I bought my G&L. I don't have enough space or enough playing opportunities to try to justify any more!
 2. DSRs. If you buy online you can inspect them in whatever setting you choose. If you don't like them, send them back.
 3. You may be interested in the new line6 helix. Not cheap, mind.
 4. Lots of people like the "pancake" jacks such as the Hicon J63MA05 for patch cables. Other brands make similar low profile ones. I've just ordered some from Thomann and they should get delivered today. I'll report back when I actually try to use them to make some cables.
 5.
I wasn't going to quote the entire thread. It's there to read. I had assumed you were using sarcasm in that quote. This thread serves as another real world example of exactly the points you were refuting. There are drummers and guitarists and bands who play too loudly and are seeming unaware of their volume.
And I did not at any time suggest that "these people do not exist any more". What I said was that there weren't nearly so many of them as you were claiming. Not the same thing at all.
 6.
Hmmm.
The sentence you quoted and the suggestion that you were "told in no uncertain terms that guitarists like this don't exist anymore" are in absolutely no way equivalent. Still, if it makes you happy...
 7. To the OP---there's not much you can do, beyond asking the drummer to change his ways. Not being able to play the songs at an acceptable volume is no better than not being able to play the songs in time. To be blunt, if you go out in public like this then the rest of the band are just as culpable as the drummer is---unless you can find a technological solution (which seems unlikely) then either he changes or one of you walks.
 8.
Funnily enough on a thread last month I was told in no uncertain terms that this kind of drummer (and guitarist) no longer exist. .
No, you weren't. Nice attempt at revisionism though.
 9.
'Last Caress' by the Misfits probably wouldn't be the most appropriate choice at a wedding - or any social function for that matter... (great song though).
I was at a wedding recently and once the DJ had finished the bride and groom cued up their own play list on their ipod. Last Caress went down a storm!
 10.
When I loaded up the mobile version on my iPhone, this morning, there were loads of sold out Dekos listed.
I'm not convinced that whats on the mobile version of the site actually reflects what they've had. There's regularly things that are "sold out" that have never appeared on the desktop version from what I can see.
 11.
. Though, it's been a while since we saw anything really surprising. Where are the Thunderbird dekos or the Semi-Hollow dekos?
I've got a few bits and bobs that I want to order from Thomann, but since I'm in no rush I thought I'd wait and see if any interesting dekos turned up (if you're paying the postage anyway then they're even more of a cheap deal). There's been nothing of interest that I've seen for about a week now.
 12.
Hi guys when I ordered the bass it said 4 days to deliver so I took the day off assuming the extra 24hr delay for update which put it six days assumed it would be on its way out by then if trucks have been broken into I expect it will be damaged no sign off it well pissed off if you read shipping it says four days to UK
This page: http://www.thomann.de/gb/helpdesk_shipping.html makes it clear that average delivery time to the UK is 3-4 days and that oversized parcels (e.g bass guitars) can take longer. Honestly, it sucks that you have to wait for your bass but unilaterally taking a day off to wait for a parcel without specific confirmation that it was definitely going to be delivered on that date is more than a bit silly.
 13.
Thomanns own harley benton powerplant Junior. Ideal for use with 5 average powered pedals. Isolated inputs, and its pretty small. £30 quid will get you it. If you venture into digital pedals (with high power consumption) then it may struggle (like mine did), but enopugh juice for your normal analogue pedals.
This^^^. Make sure you get the "junior" version though, the bigger one doesn't have isolated outputs as far as I know.
 14.
Hi there! Yes this is mine. I've been having a bit of a clear out trying to get by collection down to basses that actually get used.
Put me down as another who has lusted after this since the first time I saw it. Sadly I don't have that kind of cash readily available. Lets hope it goes to another Basschatter so my dream can live on some more...
 15. Mark Kermode wrote an excellent book about (movie) criticism. Its well worth reading.
 16.
But plan 'A' (a G&L L2000 or M2000) is only about £150 extra and I'm pretty sure I'd be happy with one of those, so... I don't know! Depends how much loot is in the bass fund when the GAS gets too much for me!!
M-2000. Do it. They're awesome.
 17. 2. Although, that said, I bought a bass off Gumtree from a lovely gentleman who is a regular here and then sold it back to him a couple of years later. One of the two that I did buy off here sold locally, but again to someone who I think is a member here. Small world!
 18.
At some point bass players saw the light and not surprisingly as we generally appreciate far more innovation in our instruments (wood type, designs, electronics etc) where guitarists like les pauls and strats.
Did we? I reckon at gigs I see more P and J basses than I do Les Pauls and Strats. I'm not sure I buy this "bass players are more innovative" line when it comes to instruments. For amps, sure, but not instruments.
 19. Guitarists are beginning to embrace modern technology more, things like the AxeFX, the new Line6 Helix, other modellers, and even older technology like PODs got/are getting a lot of attention and use. I suspect the reason that bass players are more eager to embrace new amp technology (not instruments: the P and the J are still, by far, the worlds most popular basses) is because of the ludicrous size and weight of traditional bass amps. I suspect that if an Ampeg Stack had the same tone but was the same size and weight as a Fender guitar combo then bass players would not be so keen to try something new!
 20. The B3 is good, but if you only want it for that I think you would be better served getting a dedicated drive pedal.
 21. Check out Discogs. It's a bit disorienting at first but it's basically a gateway to lots of different sellers. Lots of "proper" record shops on there.
 22.
I don't think anyone is moaning that their guitarist does do those things. I wouldn't play in a band with a guitarist or a drummer like that.
Me neither, but they must be in somebodies band, or else who are all these guitarist gripes based on? Surely not just hearsay and rumour?
 23.
The band leader wouldn't have kept anyone out of line, anyway. Just sayin'.
This, to me, is a massively important point. If the guitarist in your band doesn't play at a sensible volume, then the rest of the band or at least the band leader have to take responsibility if they allow that situation to continue. If your guitarist is ruining gigs or practices by playing too loudly, why has no-one suggested a fix? If he refuses to fix it, why is he still in your band? People don't turn into idiots overnight---its very obvious after one or two rehearsals if someone has no idea about playing with others. Silently accepting it and then moaning on an internet forum about the "guitard" in your band makes you just as culpable as he is (if not more so---maybe he doesn't realise there's a problem, but you have and you've decided not to do anything about it!).
 24.
I suppose you missed the smiley. Anyway. I said the good ones were in short supply. Generally they're in high demand and already playing in bands. I'm guessing you've not had to audition anyone recently.
If some guy turns up to audition, and he's got a 100W marshall stack and no idea how to use it appropriately---and the band let him in anyway---who are the bigger idiots, him, or the rest of the band? You're right that I haven't auditioned people recently but I go to a lot of amateur gigs and I genuinely can't remember a single one that was ruined by a guitarist cranking his amp inappropriately. Lots of dreadful bands, lots of dreadful guitarists, lots of dreadful guitar sounds, but zero memorable instances of bands being ruined by one guy's volume. So either I'm the luckiest gig-goer in Scotland or the problem of guitarists not knowing where the volume control is has been overstated ever so slightly!
