What..? And lose all of that invaluable 'mojo'..? Surely 'original strings' on a historic instrument would vastly increase its perceived worth..? No..? OK then, maybe I'll change mine one day. What about the tax disc, then..? Should that be original, too, to retain the 'original' epithet..? A rocker cover gasket..? An exhaust system..? A broom handle..? What possible 'value' could originality for its own sake have..? I can understand with hand-wound p/us, or the original nitro finish, but pots..? Do they have any impact at all on the sound, comparing old ones to new..? I'd say not. Caps, now, that's different. Bumblebees or nothing..! (Well, OK; original Russian oil-filled paper and wax, for vintage tone...). A vintage valve amp with old, exploding filter caps is just a paperweight if it can't be safely plugged in. How to replace those caps, and still retain the 'Reeves' blue blob..? Why should one even bother, except as a museum piece..?
I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic but capacitor type/construction has zero effect on tone. Yes, sometimes instruments need parts replaced but you should bear in mind that collectors value things that do not necessarily make rational sense.

My wife made me a shirt that says "aim low, play bass" on it :-)
Has it? Was going to pass mine on to a friend, but no chance now!
Yes. Along with a whole other bunch of digitech pedals. http://digitech.com/en/products/bad-monkey I saw some comments from a digitech employee on another forum that implied that many of the Digitech pedals would reappear under the DOD badge.
-
The Bad Monkey is basically a Tube Screamer with a bass control so there are about a million similar pedals. Annoyingly the Bad Monkey (in its current form) has recently been discontinued so prices have risen slightly.

Trebley, Clanky and slightly dirty sound needed

There will be other suggestions but check out the EHX Bass Soul Food. -
The nice guys of rock ‘n’ roll
uncle psychosis replied to anaxcrosswords's topic in General Discussion
I met Nile Rodgers (I will never tire of those four little words) and he was an absolute gent. -
Normally I'd be insanely jealous but I spent the day in the studio recording a new song with the rest of the band :-)

Selling on eBay, first time in a while - lesson learnt!
uncle psychosis replied to 1970's topic in General Discussion
The fees on postage happened because too many people were taking the piss by charging £1 for an item and £99 shipping in order to avoid paying final value fees. You can thank these chancers for screwing the rest of us over. -
Perhaps the sellers desire to avoid the hassle of selling it directly outweighs their need to avoid paying commission.

Status Quo hanging up their electric guitars
uncle psychosis replied to KingPrawn's topic in General Discussion
Not a band I like but I do like the fact that they seem quite willing to take the piss out of themselves. Too many bands of that stature have zero sense of humour. -
John Entwistle or Chris Squire, who do you prefer and why?
uncle psychosis replied to The-Ox's topic in General Discussion
I've barely listened to Chris Squire because Yes are completely unlistenable in my opinion. So Entwhistle wins by default. -
I had the Caline, never tried it on bass but I really liked it on guitar. For £20 its well worth a punt.
The Drake Music Project does similar - even providing single finger or blink controlled instruments to disabled kids.
Friends of mine have a company that makes an instrument designed for the disabled. It's really awesome. I want one myself! http://skoogmusic.com
Yes but if I bid my max with >10 seconds to go, there's very little opportunity for someone to bid more than they intended because they've got all caught up in it - that's what I'm getting at. Each to their own, this is what I believe and how I operate and it works for me.
Maybe, but I also never miss out on items because my neighbours are torrenting the entire internet, or because I desperately needed a pee, or because my kids have fallen and bashed their head, or an unexpected knock at the door, or a dead phone battery... ;-)
The longer you are the high bidder, the longer people have to take pot shots at you (who may be suffering from adrenaline fuelled bidding more than they meant to). There is adrenaline with sniping in person, but there's nothing you can do with it except breathe faster when you submit your best bid with >10 secs to go...
They can take all the potshots they like, they only win if they bid more money than my maximum. Good luck to them.
-
^I love taking these items for a few pence more at the last minute! Sniping in person is the only way.
More than I'm willing to pay is more than I'm willing to pay whether it's pennies or hundreds. It's a very simple concept. I've tried sniping, it's more hassle than its worth. My way is simple and there's no risk of doing something stupid and getting caught by an adrenaline rush.
-
Call me crazy but I just decide what its worth to me, bid that, and then forget about it till the auction ends. If someone outbids me they've paid more than I was willing to so there's no problem. If no one bids more than I'm prepared to pay then I win, so no problem. Really don't understand why people are so eager to hand over their ebay account details and password to a third party website for sniping. Just bid honestly.

Person buying my expensive bass
uncle psychosis replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
Thanks rich It's cash only . It just annoyed me that he won't say where he lives, yet he now hasn't address
To be fair, if I was arranging to buy a bass cash on collection and the seller sent me messages asking me specifically where I lived a lot of alarm bells would be ringing at my end if I'm being honest. Glad it all worked out mind you. -
What? Nerfing one of their crown jewels into an Ibanez Talman?
Offset guitars are "in" which is exactly why the Talman has been rereleased. The telemaster has a large fanbase which was sparked after Fender released a very limited Custom Shop version (it's not a new idea). Googling for it throws up lots of diy builds. They'll easily sell 500 in each colour. Here's a diy thread from last week! http://www.tdpri.com/forum/finely-finished/608435-first-nitro-refinish-surf-green-telemaster.html Here's a thread about it at Offset Guitars. Whilst not everyone is positive you'll notice the common consensus of "finally" and "about time too". http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=96398 So yes, on balance I'd say that yes, Fender paying attention to the DiY community and releasing something to meet that market is pretty much exactly what they should be doing.
Pedals seem to be the thing. GK has a preamp pedal out, the EBS Sheehan deluxe sig and the Tech21 Fly Rig. Google Fender Tele Offset (I can't bring myself to post a picture of it ). It perfectly sums up Fender at the moment. They really need a new senior management team.
The telemaster is actually a fairly common diy job in that whole "offset guitar" community. Lots of people have made them for themselves, this seems like exactly the sort of thing Fender should be doing.

I can think of at least three other forums that I've got thousands of posts on that I don't visit anymore. Times change, it's all good.

Personally I'd return it but I'd be pushing for some "compensation" in the form of a hefty discount off something else or whatever else you can wangle from them

Anyone tried the Zoom G3(X) with their bass? I have a B3 and a G3X, but find that the B3 tends to only get used for DI purposes. I was wondering about selling it and replacing it with a standalone DI---but keeping the G3X for emergency bass purposes. Obviously I can try it myself to see what it sounds like but has anyone else tried the guitar specific zooms with their bass?

Incredible Value for Money Gig Bag
uncle psychosis replied to FuNkShUi's topic in General Discussion
Any of you guys using yours for a G&L? The headstock on my m2000 is really long. I've measured the bass and it's slightly shorter than the stated internal dimensions of the case but I'd love since reassurance from a real world user!
