1. Bought a pedal from Evilsmile. Quick delivery, well wrapped, friendly comms, no hassles at all. Thanks.
2. I'll take the RC2 please. PM incoming
3. Sold a pedal to Gavin - a pleasure to deal with. We arranged a meet, no hassles at all. Cheers!
4. It's the weekend after payday! Get yourself a treat...
5. EHX Bass Soul Food overdrive. Nice bass drive pedal. Handy clean blend feature. Owned from new by myself. Great condition. Boxed, with manual and manufacturer supplied PSU. Velcro on the bottom. £50 + £5 postage in the UK. ***sold*** Trades-wise I'm looking for a USB audio interface (Win10 compatible) or a Boss RC-1.
6. Can't believe the money you idiots are spending on these when you could have just bought a Zoom B1 instead :-D Seriously though I want one bad. Shame I'm skint :-(
7. Ammoon Nano Chorus. Tiny (really!) analogue chorus. Nice rich sound. Its really, really tiny. [s]£15 posted in the UK[/s] No longer available
8. I've got a set of GHS Pressurewound strings sat unused and un-needed. These are the "long scale, medium gauge" M7200 set for four string: this seems to be the "standard" set of these. Size is 44-62-84-106. Really nice strings, but I'm happier on full rounds these days. [s]£22 posted in the UK[/s] ***SOLD***
9.
I think it's not a deal breaker for someone who's only thinking with their ears. But you might attract more "average" costumers with a prettier package.
Three separate sound guys at three consecutive gigs all joked that they hoped my "homebrew" DI pedal wasn't going to damage their gear. Its well worth changing the aesthetics of the pedal to match the internals. As for the headphone out: I think its a good idea but similarly to the other user above the one I had on my DI-Bass-EQ-VT1 was too noisy to be usable for me. The other thing mentioned thus far that I agreed with was switches on the side of pedals: that's an accident waiting to happen IMO. Either put them on top (for toggle switches) or use low profile sliding/dip switches.
10. I've got two basses, but one of them lives in a case and doesn't ever get played (it's purely a backup). As for "I'd get bored with one instrument" I'd personally say if you get bored you're doing something wrong. The magic is in you, not in the instrument.
11. This is back for me too as of this evening. Windows 10, running Chrome.
12. It's juvenile and desperately unfunny. It's yet another sign of the ill-placed sense of superiority that some bass players seem to think they're due because of what instrument they happen to play. Change the record. You're not special.
13.
Absolutely. Two awesome albums and then nothing. What happens to these great bands?
In the case of the Longpigs, Richard Hawley played with Pulp for a bit before embarking on a very successful solo career. He's made some cracking records.
14. I have two thoughts on it, really - the first one is that once you sell something, it's no longer yours and the buyer can do whatever they want with it. Chop it into firewood, sell it on for more, whatever. If I sold it for a price I was happy to accept then that's on me. Secondly, there seems to be this perception that offering mates rates on gear is a good thing to do "for the community". The fairly obvious corollary to that is that the people offering mates rates devalue gear that belongs to other members of the community. Is it doing me a service to sell something, that I'm also looking to sell, for less than they "usually" go for? Add in the fact that you need to pay fees to sell here now and I'd say that these "community deals" just make the site less attractive to sellers. Now, luckily I earn enough that I personally don't need to be overly mercenary about gear prices, but there's a lot of people out there for whom that's not true.
15. DR Nickel LoRiders. They soun good and they feel good. Job done.
16. I saw the film the other week and really enjoyed it, and I say that as someone who is quite cynical about the whole Beatles phenomenon. For me the early years is the really interesting part of the story so it was cool to focus on that rather than the "not speaking to each other recording on their own" later years. I also saw Supersonic recently and despite not being particularly into Oasis thought it was really interesting. Oasis may not be everyone's cup of tea but the story of how a bunch of lads from a council estate went from nobodies to one of the biggest bands in the world in a period of about 18 months is a fascinating one.
17.
I tried to post some stuff from the seminal first Jazzmatazz album but it's one of those that seems to have been blocked from Youtube. Some of the later volumes are still available on there, but IMO they don't quite have the impact of the first.
I'd agree with that - Vol. 1 is by far the best. Despite liking hip-hop one of the criticisms I'd have of it as a genre is that the number of artists who have consistently produced lots of great stuff is really small - for me it's at its best when the artists are doing something new, which is why Guru revisiting jazzmatazz a few times didn't really work for me. That said, Guru is responsible for a lot of other classics so maybe he's proving me wrong anyway :-D
18.
Fantastic!!! I already have listened to a few of those but there's some there I never even heard of, thanks! Spotify session coming soon
Cool, enjoy. Some of those are a bit much for me (the full on gangsta stuff is a bit out of my comfort zone) but the majority of those would appear in most "best of the genre" lists which is why I suggested them. My personal favourite out of that lot is probably the Gang Starr stuff. The MC is a guy called Guru who also released a record called Jazzmatazz which I think you'd like - it's basically a live jazz band with hip hop production and rapping.
19. Missed this thread before... I wouldn't class myself as a huge hip-hop fan but the good stuff is absolutely immense. Classic records worth checking out: Nas - Illmatic* Gang Starr - Moment of Truth* Talib Kweli - Reflection Eternal* Dan Le Sac / Scroobius Pip - Angles* Cypress Hill - Black Sunday Roots Manuva - Run Come Save Me Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle Dr Dre - The Chronic Eric B and Rakim - Paid In Full* De La Soul - Three Feet High And Rising* A Tribe Called Quest - People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm* Mos Def - Black On Both Sides NWA - Straight Outta Compton* The ones with *s should be in every record collection IMO.
20.
There's dreary moodiness indie rock and there's happy dance indie rock. There is a difference between Peace and Two Door Cinema Club. Don't let BBC Radio 6 (I didn't even know there was a 6) be the indicator of all things indie.
You should check out 6music, its brilliant. Anyone who plays bass guitar will definitely find several shows on it that they like. Its by far the most diverse music station that broadcasts nationally in the UK.
21. This "indie guitar band" 6music festival featured sets from Depeche Mode, Goldfrapp, Sleaford Mods, Thundercat, Sparks, John Lydon, Julia Jacklin, Bonobo, James Lavelle, Baloji... Not quite sure where this rant came from to be honest.
22.
Maybe I just dont get all this thing about looking nonchalant and not engaging with the crowds
There was this one guy who went by the name of Miles Davis. I can't remember which Indie band it was he played in but I heard that he behaved like that too. Dreadful musician, could barely play a note.
