  1. Right! Time to sell a couple of good solid non-D Class amps then! Expect an advert or two tomorrow!

Good luck with that - hope they are more popular than the one I listed (now where's that tumbleweed emoji...)

I hope I have set the prices low enough to sell. They've been safely stowed in my cupboard not getting used, so they should really go for a bargain.

  2. Seriously people, stop selling such nice instruments at a time when I can't get an appointment to sell a kidney!!!

What scale length is the kidney?

  3. So, the ever present question: Do I sell all these bits of kit that I don't actually use anymore, or keep them on the off chance that a band (job) might require them in the future. I could do with the cash frankly, but the value of the kit could mean that if I buy again in the future, I could end up paying more in the long run. Hmmmmmm

I have come to the conclusion that the stuff we keep "in case" is 90% redundant. Whenever I do get called to do anything, as soon as I get jiggy with esoteric bits of kit I get a look from the producer or keys player that says "do what you do well and we will do all that fiddly stuff".

But which 10% is not redundant?

Need money + have gear not in use + gear is worth more money now than when you bought it = Sell it

My father has a barn full of just in case things. Hope I'm going to die before him... Don't want to move, sort or sell all these things...

I remember some years ago when I started buying all the good deals I was seeing. I ended up with my two cars garage full of boxes of high end hi-fi components, instruments and amps. Sold everything and made a lot of money as lots of these things were bought for peanuts.

If you don't use them, sell them and use the money for what you really need.

      Gotcha!

Funnily enough the Magellan adds a bump to the lower mids too as well as cutting the extreme high and low frequencies to make a thick, smooth mid rich valve like drive that works brilliantly in the mix, better than any other drive that I've tried (of which there are many!). It's perfect for Motown and dad rock stuff although I often leave it on for the whole set, everything from Andy Williams to the Foo Fighters

Never had a chance to gig the Tone Hammer, unfortunately.

Presumably a Tonehammer 'nails' the sound you are after...

The AGS button will convert the gain dial to a drive control. Sensitive though. Past 9:00 gets too grindy for my ear. Mid controls also affect AGS output. I'm running mine at 7:00 and it's just right for me.

@Bridgehouse Interestingly, LT hasn't been used for anything other than gigging! - I have the Helix Native plug in for recording etc and I practice at my computer. So LT has just gone up for sale!

I'll be trying out HX Effects at a gig this weekend. Stand by for updates!

  8. Visitors to BC over the years may well have seem me bang on about what I suppose is still a favourite 'tonally coloured' speaker cabinet, the Hartke 4.5XL. I've had about 6 of those 45Kg beasts over the years. Too heavy for my poor back now. Imagine my excitement when I find I can have 600 different IR's of this famous cabinet to play with on Helix and my DAW???!!!!! Could I have 'Dan's 90's Tone' back again??? Watch this space! (My back says thank you)

@SpondonBassed - You beat me to my reply - yours is a bit more concise and yes spot on. What's funny is that in terms of being coloured (in) the Hartke 4.5XL has aluminium cones and thus are shiny silver. The crayons are nice... but you know... shiny!!! (oh man. I'm a Magpie)

    3. SpondonBassed

      SpondonBassed

Which tends to be heavier?  Hartke or TE gear?

    4. Dood

      Dood

Hartke I believe are the only one out of the two that offer Neodymium in their range? So by default that would be my answer, but I think the Hartke 4.5XL is heavier than Trace's 4x10 equivalent.

  9. Watch the Chernobyl TV mini-series. If you are 40 or over, you will probably recall seeing the news when you were young. You will want to see this series. It is very, very good. Moving and true to the events that shook the day and following years.

  11. What's happened to BC? I can't seem to post anything at all! I type a long post and it just refreshes back to the start of the thread without entering any text. Anyone else having trouble?

It seems the problem has righted itself, though strangely all one million of my post attempts have suddenly appeared making me look like a complete n00b of the interwebz.

    3. SpondonBassed

      SpondonBassed

The site is a bit laggy in places.  I've noticed it takes several seconds to load all of the components on a full web page.  Are you on a full screen or a mobile Dan?

There seems to be a back-up cache on the BC side of things that holds the user's draft text in case of a client disconnect.  In areas of the forum that require a log in it can be problematic trying to retrieve it but it is usually saved there until the text is officially posted by the user.  I can't be arsed to troubleshoot or report it.  I'd guess that your submissions were stuck in that cache for some reason.

Nice as the upgrade was, I think mobile users got more from it than users on full sized displays.

      Also curious...

What object of desire would tempt the man who gets to review all that kind of kit at work?

The rather lovely 76 P bass on the Wunjo website. It was a Natural w/Rosewood. Lovely!

Noooo. You just need a bigger house, or an extension, or trade away a child. Any of those is acceptable surely!

    3. Dood

      Dood

Oh mate.. I DO need a bigger house WITH an extension. Tough one on the kids actually. I kind alike them both. Maybe I could get the older one to do some Saturday work on the oil rigs to bring in some extra cash. Possibly a bit on the little side to operate the cranes and the like though.

Anyone know the lottery numbers coming up??? Or has won the lottery and not sure what to do with the odd 100 thousand? lol

    4. mangotango

      mangotango

It's worse than that for me.  Sometimes I end up in a bad place mood-wise, which results in feeling like I should sell all the gear I have and then start again from scratch.

Inevitably, this happens in moments of deep, desperate, despairing dissatisfaction with my sound. Don't judge me - we've all chased tone dragons, I'm sure.

Thankfully, most times I manage to avoid throwing the baby out with the bathwater and keep a vaguely sensible head on my shoulders.

  15. Sorry to bother you all, could I ask you to head to this link and subscribe to my YouTube channel?

    Expect good things soon!

  16. 300+ videos added to my review mega thread!

The only thing I haven't been able to do is update the current post URL list nice and neatly with the new playlist entries. I might need some help!!!

  19. Basschat, reference my last status, thank you for being an awesome place to be. None of that other ****, just bass 😍

YouTube had a few offerings, I’ll guess that will have to do for now!

  22. Don’t really wanna sell, but expect a sale advert for a Peavey Cirrus 5 and Sire V5-24 4 soon.

  23. EMG Pickups in a Bartolini shell! Finally! Wow those Tobias Basses are gonna get a nice upgrade :)

  24. Every now and then I get an incredible pang to return to my amplifier roots and get a Marshall. I’d love to own a 7400, at least try one out. (Although in  reality, the Marshalls were my first amps, the Ampeg SVT 2 Pro stayed the longest)

  25. I am an independent (freelancing) music gear video reviewer and demonstrator. If you own or know of a brand who are looking to have video footage produced for social media, drop me a line. I’d be interested in working with you.

Maybe you are a shop wanting to show off basses for sale, or are a small company producing pedals, a massive worldwide brand wanting quality media by someone who knows what they are talking about or simply want a company introduction video; let’s have a chat.

I’m also working on producing voice over media as I have a studio set up here too.
