Ordered as well - looks a good book for holiday reading -
I know the two shops mentioned above, and interestingly the first one mentioned is where the second one used to be (though as far as I'm aware they aren't affiliated). There are better shops in Edinburgh, Red Dog in the Grassmarket, and Guitarguitar on Corstorphine Road, both better shops my opinion. And both will do deals

The music shop that used to be at Tollcross in Edinburgh was Grant's Music - just down from the Kings and Bennetts bar

Thanks for the heads up - booked for Edinburgh

Combos, cabs and speaker sizes - oh my!

Have you looked at the EBS Classic Session combos ? They come in 3 flavours - 30 / 60 / 120 watts http://www.ebssweden.com/ Gear4music prices - http://www.gear4musi...s_Amps/EBS.html Bass direct - http://www.bassdirec...lification.html I picked up a 60 watt combo recently and it seems not too bad - haven't tried it in a practice room yet though -
A works band I'm in played the office Xmas party at the Hub here in Edinburgh last Friday (13th) - really nice venue to play with the sound being done by Reddog music - two 18 inch PA subs for the bass to go through Here's a pic - as usual I'm hiding behind something onstage Blackrockers Xmas bash by Jambo63, on Flickr

Smallest and Grottiest Venues you've played!
Jambo63 replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
In a rock covers band in the late 90s, we played a pub in Bonnyrigg near Edinburgh. The "bouncer" was in his late 70's, we were crammed in a corner booth with the drummer sitting on the booth couch rather than a drum seat, and the toilets were immediately to our right and everyone had to walk in front of the band to get to them. About half way through the first set the bar staff came rushing over to us telling us to stop playing. We didn't think we playing as bad as that - the reason ? two women were having a cat fight at the bar. classy ! -
I've not ever had a venue that would let me play from the bogs, even when I bring my really long lead (I get nervous before gigs).
Wireless system is your friend - you can play anywhere you like To answere the OP's question - depends how much space you have on stage and how many other band members are on stage with you. I tend not to do much, maybe look up now and then, tap a foot, leave the wandering about to the others. Currently in a band for work (we did a charity gig in April at the Voodoo Rooms here in Edinburgh) and we've been asked to play the works Xmas night out - venue is the Hub at the top of the Royal Mile - maybe an audience of 300+ colleagues to entertain Visited the venue last week and the stage is pretty big, comes complete with a pulpit as a back drop
