1. Modern Squier headstocks are shorter than a Fender's. They look a little 'snub nosed' to me. A Fender decal won't change that. I like my headstocks blank personally. My mate's got custom decals on his basses with his kids names on. Nice personal touch for himself.
2. I've never heard any of the albums he's played on but I have seen some solos on YouTube. Always meant to check him out further, thanks for reminding me! Good timing actually as I'm working hard trying to get my pick playing chops together. Any suggestions which albums to hear first? It's disappointing that Squier discontinued his sig P bass. Really fancied one in the cream..
3. All of the above, but my fave is this live sesh in Bremen, Germany 1974. Paul Jackson in particular is killin it here.. http://youtu.be/GAlejqkd-gg
4.
I think this is one of the funkiest things ever cut only trouble is its the Headhunters without Herbie ! http://youtu.be/mzifRDyPtd0
He did produce it though!
5. Well done! Nice you got to a/b it to be sure too. 👍
6.
I think you're right - Capri orange. https://youtu.be/XG9z0APkJWw?t=62 (That's one Ford I would like!)
Quite! There was an actual Capri Orange used by Fender but as Fender used car colours maybe they are one in the same? This is a 1981 example :
7.
Yes, the thought had occurred. And leave the gap as-is?
Yes. The orange looks excellent btw. Like 70s Capri orange. If you do decide it's a keeper bass as it is then you could always get a new pickguard cut later on to hide the gap, but until you're sure what you want to do just colour the gap in and enjoy the bass.
8. I'd just colour the exposed area in with a black permanent marker so it doesn't catch the eye.
9. The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead I can play it all in my head, including the couple of jumps my old record did!
10.
I have a fantastic, lightweight Japanese Fender FSR Classic 60s Precision up for sale at the minute that is within your budget. It's in the For Sale section. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/295819-2015-fender-fsr-classic-60s-lacquer-precision-olympic-white/page__pid__3211938#entry3211938
Wish I had 700 quid right now, that P is a bloody doozie!! 👌
11. http://youtu.be/hfTvC_j8-9k Scott Devine loves his Fender Nate.
12. Fender Nate Mendel. They are MIM but oh so (consistently) good. Lightweight too.
13.
Noooo! The cream coloured pickup just looks... tacky! Just look at my fretless (seriously now: I do wish I had gone for the black one instead... )
No no no.. The cream pup matches the maple fingerboard perfectly. Spray the body vintage cream for the win!
14. Thanks everyone for chipping in there! Well I've decided to withdraw the trade offer and keep it due to the thumbs up from the majority here. Good call from everyone who said that a happy wife is a happy life, although I do suspect she may have said she likes it to stop me from fannying around with it any more! 😂 Cheers all! 👍
15. As some bright spark from this parish once said,"sometimes the best thing to do is nothing". Withdrawn.
16.
I like it, but then again I have a soft spot for cream pickups. I'm assuming you don't. This is so completely subjective that I can't help but feel our opinions here are about as useful as a winter coat in Qatar.
I do too, that's why I bought it Just not convinced about it on fiesta red. First world problems eh? 😚
17.
I'm not a fan. Might be easier to just buy s replacement pup cover for a few quid.
Would do but Dimarzios are all one unit sealed in epoxy so the covers don't come off. Great for a zero hum pickup though.
18. Today I put an ad up here to trade my cream Dimarzio Model P for a black one as I didn't think the cream worked with the Fiesta red of my fretless. All good. However, upon chatting to the wife she said she really likes the look, it's different and why be like everyone else? Fair point. Now I'm thrown as I've got the ad up (not trying to plug it btw, just not sure whether to withdraw it and I don't want to waste anyone's time.) So over to you guys.. Cream pup - yay or nay? Great or gash? Super or shi.. You get the idea 😄
19. I have a nearly new, unmolested cream Dimarzio Model P which I love the sound of. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the cream doesn't really suit the near dayglo fiesta red and tort of my P bass. I love the look of the cream on other P basses (for example, Bad Seed Martin P Casey - sunburst and Paul Simonon - vintage white) but it's not working for me on this one. Anyone up for a straight swap with a similarly fine condition black one? It will come with the original box and unused black screws. Also, I use KiOgan's solderless connections so obviously it's never been soldered. Cheers, Si.
20. It's Manc humour. Everything said is banter, anything for a gag. Noel could've been a great stand up comedian in another life. Don't take it seriously. He isn't.
21. Juan Alderete - The Mars Volta 😰
22.
Just my IMO, never thought of the Oz's as Floyd on steroids, rather more like solo Hillage. Bloody good band though, and the female bass player they had at some point was really on the ball, just like all the musicians they use
That's Brandi Wynne of which you speak. She is still the bass player and wife of mainman Ed Wynne. Ed's son Silas is the keys/synths man now. Interestingly, Bubinga5, Jurassic Shift is the last album that original bass player and founder member Roly Wynne contributed on, stepping out halfway through proceedings due to ill health I believe. Zia Geelani (he that plays bass on the awesome Live Underslunky) took over and finished the last half of the track Feng Shui and then the other tracks. I didn't know this myself until fairly recently and it surprised me as although Roly was a pick player (Stingray) and Zia uses fingers (P bass), the transition is seamless. And yes, what a great, great band they are!
