1.
Great: influencing culture by your ability or creativity.
That they did.
2. Those kids will never forget that night. Good work sir.
3. Brilliant stuff! Cheers for the heads up there. Just subscribed to his channel. 👍🍻
4. 1 pair of brand new unused heavy knurled Genuine Fender flat top P bass knobs with grub screws. £10 posted.
5.
Paul Denman is my benchmark when it comes to Stingrays... his tone with Sade when I saw them live was thunderous. I don't really get the Flea tone chasing... but agree, Flea will always, for me, be associated with that MM pickup in the sweetspot... no matter what piece of wood or carbon hybrid it is attached to. I think the appeal for Fender Flea basses with the MM setup would actually limit sales to the die hard Flea fans... whereas the stacked knob jazz that is currently up for grabs is appealing to a far wider ranger of players - both Flea and non Flea fans. Interesting to see what Fender do... but I suspect they would build you a Flea bass as above... if you go via the custom shop... otherwise, just get a body, have it routed accordingly and painted and stick a Fender neck on it. Job done.
From Sade to Flea - just goes to show the versatility of a Stingray.
6. New and unused Entwistle PBX P bass pickup (ceramic magnets) £10 posted. Sold.
7. Top quality Nitrocellulose lacquer - one white sanding sealer, two vintage white colour, one light tint clearcoat. Bought for a bass that I haven't got time to refin. They cost me £15+ per tin and they are all completely unused and as new from the suppliers. I can't post them unfortunately due to them being restricted goods to mere mortal post office users such as myself, but if you are around the Cardiff-ish area we can arrange a meet up. Cheers 🍻
8. Ken Smith Compressors - compression wound of course. Brand new pack, unopened. Med-light. 102 80 62 44 £20 posted
9. Revelation RB65 P bass body and pickguard for sale. Used so a few roadworn dinks here and there. Standard Fender neck pocket (I had a lic by Fender Allparts neck that fitted snug as a bug). Basswood, lightweight and resonant. £40 posted
10. I had Labella low tension flats on a fretless P. Felt and sounded fantastic. I imagine they would be just as good on a Ray. No experience with the LTLF B string though. Edit: it's worth mentioning that I only don't use them now as I tune my fretless to low C natural. If I needed regular EADG tuning they would still be my string of choice.
11. I just bought a a P bass pickguard off Alan and it arrived next day, packaged brilliantly. Just as he described it. This is my second dealing with Alan and again, it's been a pleasure. Top Basschatter. Many thanks again Alan! 🍻
12. They may be more magnetic than your old strings, try lowering the pickups just to see. *also the fact that they're contact cores means that they'll sit closer to your pickups anyway (assuming that you haven't adjusted at the bridge) Have you noticed your action is lower since the switch?
13. I believe it's all legit. Flea himself says he likes to keep things "juicy loosey". Plus it's been well documented that both Flea and John were stoned as f**k throughout proceedings. I love the juicy looseness. It sounds honest, sexy and human to me.
14. The girlfriends of most drummers I've played with have all been absolutely headers.
15.
I'm a professional salesman, done it for many years. Steve is right to some degree. You need someone to go out and meet the landlords or club managers etc but it needs to be the right person. Steve says "gobby", what you actually need is someone with the confidence, to do the meetings with a stranger, not necessarily "gobby". It's very easy to fall into the trap of going round loads of places and spout out a practiced script of: "Hello, I'm Wayne, I'm in a covers band, we play AC/DC, Stones, etc etc, etc, We're better than most others round her and we're getting started, when do you have a night free that we can do a night for you?... pause for breath." The problem with this is Wayne, bless him, hasn't asked any questions. A good salesman listens more than speaks. (God gave you 1 mouth and 2 ears, and there's a reason for this. You don't learn as much through talking.) Go into see the manager: Wayne: Hi I'm Wayne, I'm with XYZ Band, we're just getting started in the area, we think we're good, but I wonder, can you help me please if you have 5 mins? (Folk are naturally helpful, they don't think they want to be sold to, but they like to help) Manger: No, I'm up to my neck in it. Wayne: OK I can appreciate that, when would be a good time? - Get an appointment. Or Manager: Yeah, sure. What can I do? Wayne; Well I know there are a number of bands about and I see you do live music. If you were looking for a new band, what would you like to see in that band? What sort of music? Manager: - Now he tells you what you need to know. Wayne: OK, cool. Just out of interest, of the bands you have here, mentioning no names, are there anythings they do, or don't do that you like, or don't like? I guess, what I'm really asking is what is it in a band that, for you makes the whole deal work well for you and The Kings Arms? Manager: - Now he tells you more of what you need to know. Wayne: Cool, That's really helpful. Many thanks. We're a band that does that kind if music, and we can make sure we don't get-loaded / $h@gg the bar staff / play too loud, as we have our own limiter etc.. delete as appropriate. If we were able to deliver what you want, when would your next available night be? Manager: well we're now booking for April 2026.... Wayne; Cool, we should be ready about then, can I give you some info, with our web page/ Farcebook / Lemonrock / Soundcloud... ? Hopefully that should work better than spouting and getting nowhere. Good luck
Brilliant advice! 🍻
