This is awkward. Mrs.Edge is taking me to see Six The Musical in the new year. I understand it’s quite good. Lucinda Williams in February, and a few others further in to 2026.

Thanks! -
Thanks both. Some interesting thoughts there. 1. Active and passive. Although they appear to be very similar in volume they def sound tonally different. I need to try passive next time I have it out. Or back off the bass a bit in active, as you say. 2. Pickup placement. Yes, I do wonder what the D and G strings would sound like if the pickup was installed in the reverse position, keeping the E/A half where it is and shifting the D/G half to the neck side. If I ever put a J pickup in the bridge, maybe I’ll get it swapped over at the same time. 😂 And yes, it’s a cool colour!

I've been gtting into the dangerous territory of keyboards (dangerous for the wallet!), speciafically Stage Pianos and I'm looking for recommendation in the <£2k sort of price rage (new or second hand). The things I want: Good sounding Piano, EP, Organ (ideally with drawbars), and synth would be a bonus but not essential. 73 Keys (semi-weighted), good keybed. 'Hands-on' design for the controls (for live use without menu diving). Relatively light/portable. Tough/reliable for live gigs and moving around: Gigs every couple of weeks, rehearsals each week, set up at home in-between. Decent professional level type connections and power supply (including a tough IEC type power cable rather than barrel would be ideal). Budget: £2k I've owned a Yamaha CK 61 for 18 months and it has has had a decent amount of use - both at home and for gigs, it shows me this isn't just a flash in the pan or quick impulsive decision for something that'll gather dust. The CK 61 is good start for a decent enough Stage Piano but I'm starting to feel it is lacking in a couple of areas: Mostly as I'd prefer an extra Octave (especially for split points) and it is starting to feel a bit on the budget end of being a professional instrument e.g. things like a barrel power connector are not as roadworthy as I'd like, the keybed is just 'okay' and the keys are slightly smaller than standard, and as I get more into playing I think I'd start noticing an upgrade being worthwhile and noticable for playability, sounds, robustness. Any recommendations? That £2k sort of price seems to be the level that most manufacturers have their entry-level of professional stage pianos: Nord Electro 6D 73 (this is my front-runner) Yamaha CP 73 Viscount Legend 73 Korg SV2 Roland Fantom 07 .....or second hand could get to things like a Nord Stage 2. Or is this just me wanting new stuff?! A: Yes! ...but I think something like a Nord Electro 6D 73 would be quite a significant upgrade to the CK 61 in terms of feel, sounds, robustness. My 'buy stuff justification' maths says: £1,920 for the Nord Electro 6D 73. (or about £1,500 with part-ex for my CK-61, and I do also have a MPC Key 37 that could potentially get sold/part-ex for about £500, but I thik of that as a different thing I'd like to keep - as it's more for home production, sampling, sequencing and synth sort of stuff). After 10 years (about the time that updating a Nord seems worthwhile) it'd still be worth about £1k (given that the asking priice for an Electro 4 from 2015 is about £1k). So that'd cost me less than £100 per year (or £50 per year if you include the CK-61 being sold...or free if I also sell the MPC!). Who can argue with that?! (I'll give you a clue: I'm married to her!). In a word that is increasingly asking for subscriptions/pay monthly and throwaway stuff/things with planned obsolescence I do find that my 'buy stuff justification' for musical instruments a wonderful thing!

I've had one fitted by a great local tech and its been good, definitely does what you'd expect - takes a bit of fine tuning to get it to work without bending the notes sharp however. Sometimes comes a little loose, its a weird design, but always having a screw driver in the bass bag allows for quick adjustments.

Hi all, Unfortunately, an unexpected bill has come in, which means that this excellent Fuzz/Filter from CMC Audio (who make the Proto Type overdrive) has to go. I bought it a little while ago, and honestly, while it’s excellent, it’s also the most valuable of the many fuzzes I have, so needs-must. More info from CMC here: https://cmcaudio.odoo.com/shop/bi-filter-fuzz-33 I made a video of one particular sound I liked below, but there’s more videos on their Instagram and on YouTube which shows it doing straight Fuzz tones, as well as synthy, envelope filter tones too. You can attach an expression pedal, and a holding down the footswitch means it works as a momentary switch (until you take your foot off of course), a short press and release obviously still allows a latching function. No box, but it’s as-new other than Velcro on bottom and will be packed very securely. I’m open to part-ex’s (what u got?), but need at least £100 cash. These are circa £230 new + plus delivery from Belgium + VAT. BFF.mov Cheers Si

I did this - stuck the components (mine is just a single USB output) in a bit of plastic tube then cable tied under my pedal board. Pretty no, cheap and works, yes.

I bought this a couple of years back and did it up. It was professionally set up and restrung but I am just not using it. We were playing 80s alternative songs on folk instruments BUT I quickly got sick of taking several instruments to gigs and seem to have settled on using less. I added the fitted case, bought brand new from Gear 4 Music. The action is pretty decent and these are loads of fun / easy to play. I have it strung G-D-A-E but you can tune it C-G-D-A or like the top 4 strings of a guitar. Happy to meet Swindon - Newbury way which can be discussed via DM. Thanks for looking.

Anyone solder wires into mains plugs?
BigRedX replied to Steve Browning's topic in Repairs and Technical
This came up on another forum, and the advice from several experienced electrical engineers was that a better and more permanent contact between the screw terminal and the wire conductor was achieved if you did not tin the wires, because the copper strands can compress and essentially cold weld to the terminal under the pressure from the screw.
