  1. Past hour
  2. My OTB 500 has developed nasty habit of making a very loud crackling sound for a few seconds after I move volume from zero up even a small amount after turning on and flipping the switch after its warmed up a bit. After its done it the volume control behaves itself for hours and even switching off and on doesn't get it to do it again. Do you think this might be valve related or just a knackered volume control knob or something else?
  3. Got asked to do a dep in a couple of weeks. I know most of the songs. Not looking forward to sequeing play that funky music into superstition- that always fries my brain! And they have Mama Mia on the list 🤪
  4. To deepen nut slots without using a file, use a scalpel or craft knife with a sideways scraping action to retain the curved base of the slot. Make sure the front of the slot is slightly higher to ensure you don't get rings or buzzes. These can be cured by reducing the back of the slot only. An over-deep slot can be restored with a tiny slip of paper, reinforced with a drop of superglue. After adjusting a truss rod, use the heel off your hand to rap the neck in a few places to ensure it settles. Light mineral oil is good for lubing machine heads. Lemon oil for fretboards is just light machine oil with a small amount of lemon oil as scent and can be used in an 'emergency'. Never use pure lemon oil on instruments. If you use 000 wire wool to take the gloss off a neck, it can usually be restored using t-cut.
  5. Three gigs this week. Tuesday was our monthly gig at a local pub ( acoustic duo). Plenty of great requests, including a few for the inevitable ‘Paranoid’ which we left until the end. Probably the busiest we’ve seen it, a lovely crowd all up for a good time and a laugh too - we did ‘Sylvia’s Mother’ and don’t know how we got to the end TBH. A fabulous gig, best we’ve done there I think. Wednesday was my weekly gig playing rock and roll at a local club. I’m getting a few songs together to sing , to give my guitarist mate a break mainly. I did JJ Cale’s ‘The Breeze’ and also ‘High heel sneakers’ which went down well with the dancers. Then Saturday I was depping with a local band at a garden party 6 miles from my village. We played under a gazebo at the end of the garden, and I had a tortoise keeping me company throughout ( see pic). One of those rare occasions where I wasn’t the oldest guy in the band, sax player was 83 and played seated unless soloing when he stood up and rocked it. Material was a mix of ska / reggae / soul with a few pop standards thrown in as well. Well lubricated audience loved it, and we got fed and watered. Nice to play with people I’ve never worked with before, doing stuff I’ve not played before too. Tunes included ‘Lip up fatty’, You can get it if you really want’ , ‘My boy Lollipop’ and ‘Everything I own’. Finished by 8.30pm, home around 9.15 so fine with me.
  6. Oh no, why oh why did I click on this thread….. I’m happy with my V5, I’m happy with my v5, IM HAPPY WITH MY V5 😭

Amazing bit of kit, fully working and comes with new charger cable. No box but will be securely packaged up. U.K. postage included or I’ll be down at Brighton Guitar Show on Sat so can bring it with me.

  9. You're welcome. There are some good sounding basic toneprints there, among the lot. I use overdrive compression and octave. Even if the BH has two toneprint slot you can use only one at a time. Some of the toneprints available are combined tone prints - e.g. OD and compression. This may compensate for that, if you find a combined toneprint that suits your need. I would have appreciated the ability to edit the tone prints as well. Re the laurel-resting mentioned by neepheid I have the impression that the development og the effectmotor using the toneprint stopped when the company was sold. Which is a pity as many of the basic effects are actually quite good. I am not a fan of any of the artist toneprints and I am not a fan of the over-the-top self appraisal babble in the app but apart from that. Besides the BH I have a BG combo which essentially has the same features.
  10. That's exactly what we did in basso continuo: longstrings person and keys person got together for a little chat before playing the piece. Ha. I'd never known that modern bands are just like baroque orchestras! 🙂
  11. first gig done last night used both Mark Bass cabs and boy, did it shift the air Amazing Next gig will try my Ashdown RM410 cab
  12. The keys and bass need to meet separately to work on an arrangement that works for both of them. With experienced musicians this can be done on the fly as they both will adjust using their ears.
  13. Yes and yes, as long as you are okay to collect.
  14. Oh, I wanted to say that it looks like Danny will ship to Hungary soon 😁 However, I then got the website translated and "こちらの商品は[在庫切れ]のため購入できません" means "This item is out of stock and cannot be purchased." 😞
  15. Same here, mine is always on my board, such a great pedal, pretty rare to see one for sale these days, somebody needs to grab a bargain!
  16. When soldering to the back of a potentiometer use a light abrasive (sandpaper, larks’ tongues etc…) to remove the coating on the metal and make it easier to solder to. When soldering the wire to the lug of the potentiometer use a small crocodile clip as a heat-sink to avoid overheating and damaging the insides.
  17. I'm enjoying the poster name/content congruence going on here!
  18. I think this is the only selling point, but No I'm happy locked in my room upstairs
  19. A s/h Squier Mustang bass in a padded gigbag - cheap, robust, replaceable, easy to find strings.
  20. Here's a sexy little folding wooden number, I found it on Amazon a few years ago:
  21. I’m currently in the process of rescuing one too. Very cool basses. GLWTS
  22. Exactly this. Some know what their roll should be in a band situation others do not. For me they should cover Keyboard based tunes as a Pianist and everyone else steps back. In other pieces they should be handling the Brass, Sax and string parts.
  23. It's a superb example of Carol Kaye's bass of choice from 2002. These don't come up too often. Condition is remarkable for the age. It's even got the plastic film on the cavity covers. It's Korean-built and we know they know how to do neck-through properly. The build quality is stunning as is the grain of the ash wings. The neck profile is what I'd call slim modern J. Controls are: Vol, Blend, Treble, Bass. It's been deep cleaned and set up beautifully (med/low) with D'Addario EXL170BT strings. that's a balanced tension set. As per all my rosewood board instruments, it's been treated with Montypresso. Frets are level and polished to 7000 grit. All electronics have been checked and all pots cleaned. New battery fitted today. Truss rod is perfect. It's 4.4kg. I've got proper packaging and am happy to ship insured at buyers expense, which will be about £30. If you're undecided and fancy trying it out, I can usually accommodate a try-out with some notice weekdays or weekends.

  24. I dont disagree with any of that, but that's not what ive been posting about.
  25. A bass transcription of Curtis MayField's "Do Do Wap Is Strong In Here" from the "Short Eyes" album with Joseph "Lucky" Scott is now online.
  26. Carpenters and luthiers, close you eyes now, please. I do love inserts, but I have used M2.5 or M3 screws for pickups without inserts. If the wood is tough I have used a tap to make the thread straight to the wood after drilling the hole. Check Vigier strap button attachments: https://www.parts.vigierguitars.com/en/bodies_parts/153-vigier_parts_insert_for_strap_endpin_with_m4_screw.html
