  2. I had the Session 4x10 too. The preamp was great. I imagine a 600W class D amp and 4 neo 10" speakers would have made a very tidy proposition as it wasn't a super heavy cabinet.
  3. Hey guys Need a little help, I've got a Kala scout with thunderblack strings. I had fairly even volume across the strings but detuned / retuned recently and the low e is noticeable lower in volume? Any fixes? I'm afraid to restring in case I cause more issues. I've got a set of thunderblacks and a set of Kala flatwounds to go on
  4. As far as I know B&Q only do one grade of hardwood ply. It's usually got one good side and one where the knots and voids are patched on the outer veneer. It's good enough for a speaker that is to be painted or vinyl covered but subject to a bit of splintering if your saw blades are a bit dull. Wickes do a better range of plies, though sadly they have stopped doing their marine ply. Saying that I haven't visited them for a couple of years as I have quite a lot of ply in stock. Mine is currently from a batch Jewsons got in just before covid described as Poplar but actually Chinese sourced and made from two varieties of 'Eucalyptus' only one of which is actually Eucalyptus sp. The thing to understand is that the English names aren't strictly defined, you need the latin names to be sure what you have. So Poplar isn't always Populus sp and neither is Birch always Betula sp. When you are looking at species that grow in China they have no English name, so they can call them what they want. A lot of Russian 'birch' was exported from Kaliningrad so became Baltic birch. You can't even rely upon counting the plies as a test of quality, generally it is quicker and cheaper to fabricate fewer plies but if the wood is poor then they might take thinner plies. It's a bit like choosing a wine on the basis of the dimple in the bottom of the bottle.

  6. I got one for Christmas, but not really got a use for it. I brought the new Valeton GP-50 just before Christmas and also have a GP-5. It seems quite similar to the Valeton stuff. I like the form factor, although not keen on the on/off system.
  7. Just one? Ooh, tough choice. Avoiding solo albums by bass players, probably Paul Simon’s Graceland.* *I will no doubt change my mind as soon as I hit submit reply.
  8. It would be interesting to know if it landed back, in the hands of the rightful owner.
  9. That's a shame, thanks for letting me know.
  10. If there was 1 album you'd buy/listen too just for the bass, which one would it be?
  11. Stunning USA G&L L2000 up for grabs, which judging by the play wear, was made around 1952 😄 As with all older G&L instruments, the build quality is fantastic and it feels very substantial despite being fairly lightweight at just under 9lbs. The neck is amazing, it's easy to understand why it's seen so much gig action in its life. Despite the worn appearance it feels great with no serious damage, and the frets are in good shape. It features the K Mod switch which allows, series, parallel and single coil pickup settings, as well as a switch for passive, active and active with table boost modes. It's such an iconic and versatile instrument, sadly no longer in production. Collection from Margate preferred. I don't have a case for this bass but do have some decent packaging if you'd like to arrange your own courier.
  12. I don’t know what you mean?

  14. I guess because it just works? Flawlessly. For the 70+ gigs that we've used the A&H CQ18T desk since getting it. At each gig we've had one or two band members using a wired IEM straight into the aux outs (with no separate external headphone amp), and with the desk output levels being set for them no higher than for the wireless IEMs. Just to make sure I'm not losing the plot, I've just tried the desk with my home over-ear headphones and no external headphone amp. Could very clearly hear recorded output at similar volumes for both the headphone-out and aux-out with similar output levels on both. Go figure 😅
  15. So it's a 'build your own Space Bass kit', then? I know it's probably a question with a really obvious answer, but why don't you put it back to stock and sell it for a bit more..?
  16. Aah, the old tying me up in knots because of what I posted trick, eh? Well played, old man! Well played. Bravo! 😂
  17. You're wrong, of course. These yellow fingers are from all the Wotsits I've been eating... 🙃 Edit- more pertinently, what a capable and linear- sounding "little" cabinet the c8 is. Very transparent to what it's being asked to reproduce. The Ampeg pre simply sings through it, yet go straight into the old Markbass CS450 head, and it's like a sledgehammer.
  18. Thanks Andy - Sudbury is definitely doable for me so I’ll check him out, much appreciated!
  19. Pretty
  20. They're also wonderful to play. After playing my '87 JD Thumb, I just had to have it, even though it cost about six times what I got for my tatty Precision in part exchange.
