As I own the controller version of it (SL88 GT Mk2) with their Numa Player, I can confirm that the Steinway D is quite decent (very similar to the XLN Addictive Keys Studio Grand), but certainly not up to the level of the VI Labs Modern D or the VSL Synchron (or Studio) Concert D-274 or VSL Studio Concert D 1887 (love this one) or Modarrt Pianoteq 9 Steinway Model D New York and Hamburg, for instance (yes, I do have the full bundles from each company... 🤦🏻🤪😉 ). I can also confirm that there are some very good organs with the Numa Player. Check this, I think the guy has tried everything on the Numa X 73: That said, a Numa X Piano 73 or 88 or GT or the MIDI controller version (SL Mk2 73 or 88 or GT), Modarrt Pianoteq 9 and an iPad will give you all the sounds needed and way more, plus an excellent integrated soundcard with ultra low latency (Numa Piano X or SL Mk2), so no need for an external soundcard.

Good solid IEM setup there.

I grabbed a Spectracomp off eBay today, so hopefully it'll be here in a few days and ready for the next band practice! Thanks for the advice! I'll give it a whirl and see what my ears say. I'll be using it in a blues covers band and have 2 general tones. One with the VT, which is fairly flat-ish and just uses a pedal for a bit of warmth and slight break up. Then I use a catalinbread SFT for more grit. I switch between basses depending on what I fancy taking with me, but it'll be wearing flats. Any tips on which tone print would be good to start with? I hear good things about the Captain East...

Some of these are really good, others are poor quality zinc (?) castings. I found the stainless steel ones best when inserting into mahogany or ply, the coarse thread ones (as shown) sometimes do not self tap and pull the ply laminations apart. Using the stainless ones and thread tapping the wood hole produced the best results (superglue or epoxy them in if you want total solidity) This avoids wrecking wood near to the speaker hole., there are no prizes for guessing how I know.

Worst purchase: set of Ernie Ball strings I bought on a whim at the guitar and bass show and haven't put them on. Second place best: the Smoothhound wireless kit I took in px when I sold my EBS Session 60 amp. It buzzes and plips like anything on stage, but in my practice room it's silent and means one less lead. Which makes it easier to pick up the bass and practice. Best purchase: In person lessons! I don't practice enough in the week to get the maximum value (blame the job) but I am slowly and measureably improving stamina and repeatabilty and adding to my technique. Big shout out to Chris at at The Instrument Factory in Newport Pagnell.

Best - It was very close between my Cort Fusion 5 and my Zoom B6. But I’d say the Zoom takes it because it’s already earned its cost back tenfold, and it’s got me out of a few terrible sounding rooms already. Honourable mention also goes to the 2 1x15 homemade Eminence powered bass cabs I got from my local shop for the disgusting price of £40. They’re fantastic. Worst - Snugs custom moulded IEM sleeves.. I unfortunately dropped my £1k 64 Audio CIEMS and shattered the shell, in the middle of wedding season. So, I anticipated a long repair time having to be shipped out etc. I bought the snugs to go on to a second hand set of Shure 535s I picked up off eBay to get me through until I got the good ones back. Well, they do the job of isolation, but other than that they’re rubbish. Big, bulky, uncomfortable, and I’m fairly certain that at times made the wires on my headphones cause cutouts. And they cut my ears to bits for the first week or so. Still, I’ve got the 64s back now which are amazing!

… well the Redpanda 3 into 1 mono mixer is the key, this alows me to have 3 separate boards each only going into the last board (the utility one with DI) to go to FOH. Power will be via 1 Spot 9V PSU if they all play nicely (after checking before building the boards lol). I’ll probably need x 2 PSU and x2 small daisy chain cables. I’ve got some pedals on ‘the shelf’ that need other power, so if I end up using those I’ll need to rethink the power requirements then. Hopefully it’ll all come together 🤣
