HeadlessBassist started following Sterling Bongo...worth the wait?

A second hand 'real' Bongo would seem to be a better option. I keep hearing that the SBMM pickups and electrics are nearly, but not quite like the real thing. I'd hate to lay out a grand while all the time wishing I'd bought the real OA Music Man model.

Looks like it might have one too many strings...

AF9 is a brilliant envelope filter! Not sure why TC never did a filter model - it would make the Plethora a potential all in one solution for me if they did.

…….to add to my previous post. 1: I’ve also had the reply “ we won’t insure you as you might be driving Boy George home and have an accident etc etc! 2: The company used by me via the Musicians Union many years ago was a broker in North London. I discovered they weren’t getting the best price, costing me well over £100 more per year. My wife was a teacher and Aviva had links with her Teachers Union so we moved to Aviva putting her car as the main one but I’m thinking it may have been easier to insure with them as a musician because I was the second car on the policy. As I now use her car for ULEZ zone gigs, I’ve updated our Aviva policy to include her car for business.

The best compromise is the use of small valve combos, 15/20 watts is usually fine for a band. There has been a growing number of these being made in the past 20 years or so, negating the use of 50/100 watt heads and accompanying 4x12 cabinets. Also powersoaks and attenuators can help tame loud amps to a certain degree. (Vox AC30s are renowned for being louder than many a stack though, so the general rule is that stuff is as loud as it sounds I guess?).

Drummers / personal chauffeur who are deaf, angry and way too fast jolting all the time with a satnav with the woman’s screeching voice telling me about places of interest. Hofner violin basses that look older than the people that invented them . So many ‘made in Indonesia’ basses these days. I do wonder if the necks are as fragile as they look 🤔. The Ibanez headless seemed to have quality control issues now and again . Active circuitry! I prefer plug’n’’ play . over complicated multi effects !

Thanks Phil - I’m near Bath so may just take you up on that!

Nope, but hoping to join a rock covers band shortly. We will see.

lemmywinks started following Opinions on small cabs for fretless

These were the old school choice for fretless and upright, still great if rather heavy by today's standards. Probably won't get a better sounding compact cab for £200.

Fair play to you ! I’d expect the punters would be complaining if the carpet removal is not rectified , as it sounds that was one of the main issues . Normally playing in a band , I usually found that we on stage could always hear each other in a quite mellow kind of way and the sound levels were heard by the audience . We always did soundchecks . We had the vocalist also walk around assessing the volume at the same time time. one thing on a tangent ; on a couple of soundchecks at different venues , e were approached by the landlord telling us we were very loud . We explained that when the punters arrived it would deaden the sound somewhat, also making sure we kept an eye on things . We were asked back, and all was good . Having said all that , it does sound that whoever setup the stage in that way is now going to have to have a rethink . You’ve set the ball rolling there, whether you continue or not. The rest of the band may have been heroes just for one more day , before they realised their hearing is now shot ! 😬

This is a fantastic little practice amp that I'm only selling as I'm now using my son's amp in the rehearsal room instead so it's surplus to requirements. In good condition bar the paint on the bottom front corners that has come off at some point. It's mostly been sat on my desk bar a couple of occasions taking to friends house and is from a smoke free home if that matters to you. Selling with 'Poweradd Pilot pro 2' external power pack that fits under the handle for portability - if you don't want this then the amp will be £220. Welcome to try if seriously interested, message me and we can arrange. Payment preferred by bank transfer but will accept cash. All documents included but no box unfortunately so I won't be posting.

Same, there’s a reason no one’s bought it and it’s floated around a lot. At that price point I’d normally buy for my own stock but haven’t
