peteb started following Soundchecks - are they professional?

Essentially what they are doing is checking that your vocals or bass or whatever is coming through the monitor OK and not causing any issues. Once they know that, all they need to do is turn it up or down as needed by you. With bit of experience, you can often get it somewhere close with just the odd tweak needed, which you sort out by playing a verse of a song. The experience of both the sound engineer and the guys in the band is key.

I recently sold a couple of pedals to Rich. Communication was quick and pleasant and everything went quickly and smoothly. A good experience and would be happy to deal with again.

Double bass rebuild - not for the faint of heart!
itu replied to The Guitar Weasel's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Couldn't you use a DIN7965 type of "screw" (threaded insert) in the body as an anchor? Then there would be no need to reach the insides of the bass? Maybe two M6s would be strong enough. M8s could be overkill. I use similar inserts in my electric bass bolt-on necks. To get more area under the bolts (DIN 7991), I have used spherical washers (DIN 6319). https://www.fasteners.eu/standards/din/7965/ Reminder: The slotted head is to go in first. -

Listening to the Scott podcast, they bring up a valid point. 800,000+ people have been taken in by a grifter, when real musicians have been honing their craft and working on building a following for years, this guy rolls up and essentially cheats his way to the top 5. Half of it is the fault of people who unquestioningly believe what they see on the Internet. Beato was, until the guy was sitting in front of him and exposed. -

https://youtu.be/cltDqc-lPsw?feature=shared Interesting vid here of a guy who bought 2 basses from AliExpress , I've bought football shirts for the kids from DH gate and was interested in the basses but after reading reviews it was mainly horror stories, that said you might get lucky, how much is the Duff bass ?

It was a drill (what I called cutting) press that was used to make this plates back then at the Kluson factory. And it's more than probable that Leo seized the opportunity to buy these "defective" machine heads lot at a fair price as what he used for his instruments has always been the cheapest possible.

One band i was in back in the late 90s (in thd UK) used to only really play pubs and clubs. We'd be on at 8.30 or 9.00 usually. Drummer would be in first, rest of us would turn up 15/20 mins before the start. Set up, tune up silently, no playing other than an odd note to make sure your amp was working. On the dot... 1.2.3.4.... and off we'd go. A quick volume twiddle mid intro and we were rocking for the next two hours. In France, polar opposite, they all wanted to get to a gig 5 hours early. Drove me mad. Without meaning to sound condescending, a lot of it is down to experience and familiarity with the venues.

Tascam MA-8 This has 8 fantastic sounding pre-amps. I've not had a need to use it for a while, so did a quick test with my AKG c214 condenser mic to ensure all channels were fully working, clear and with working phantom power. All channel sounded lovely (audio available on request, but it's just me say "testing channel 5" etc.) There are 2 red knob caps missing (channel 7 and 8) as per the photos, but other than that it's a good as new. Each channel gain has the feel of quality for something made in Japan 20 years ago. A fantastic piece of kit which will keep working for another 20+ years easily. Comes with 'unscrew-able' feet which can be removed if you have a tight rack unit, but very useful for desktop use. Any questions, let me know £85 if picked up from South Lincolnshire area or if you want it posting within the UK I can look up postage charges

All just idle speculation on my part… I know that I have neither the tools nor the talent to build or rebuild a bass. Tools I could buy, talent not so much!! 🤣🤣🤣 Agreed, the new body route you took for your spare neck is the correct one.

I still think the Line6 POD Go is a brilliant bit of kit, but no DI though. Just bought a FlyRig v2 from Carlsim, only had a little time with it, but really looking forward to messing about with it a lot more. Some great sounds in there. Definitely has a DI out too.

Anyone bought a cheap (Chinese) neck off eBay?
Pea Turgh replied to NancyJohnson's topic in Bass Guitars
Thought that was a really nice green body for a minute, then wondered why the little Korg thing was inside the pick-up hole 🤣. That would be a cracking shade for a p-bass body! -
Another bucket list transcription, this is the (nearly) complete transcription for the tune 'Spears' from the 1984 Tribal Tech album of the same name. Stunning writing by Scott Henderson. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/spears-tribal-tech/

Sadly, I need to let go of my very special Spector NS Pulse II 5-string bass. Asking price is £1,000. I replaced the Tone Pump Jr pre-amp with a multi-coil filtering pre-amp from Lusithand Devices. Stock EMG pickups, not had a chance to swap them out with an actual multi-coil pickups but sounds amazing even without. If you are after the Wal sound, this setup will get you very close. Excellent condition, no scratches or dings, low action, no buzz, straight neck etc. UK buyers only. I'd prefer collection in person, but happy to post it via UPS or similar service (no evri) at the buyer's expense. Hard case included in price. Any questions, let me know! Specs: Body Wood: Solid Swamp Ash Neck Wood: 3-piece Roasted Maple; Bolt on Fretboard: Macassar Ebony Number of Frets: 24 Inlays: Dots Nut: Graphite Nut Width: 1.75" Scale: 35" Neck: EMG 40DC Bridge: EMG 40DC Bridge: Hi-mass Locking Tuners: Sealed Die-cast String Spacing at Bridge: .66"

Got a set of the 43-108s on the way, which I’ll likely put on my ‘Ray. Not expecting them to set the world alight but curiosity (and some good discounts) got the better of me! -
Looks like a quality chocolate product to me, rippled with praline. Looks yummy and no doubt sounds the same. Double thumbs up here 👍👍.

I'm no longer gigging, so another item up for sale. This bag offers a very high level of protection and with plenty of useful additional storage space. All zips work perfectly and the general condition is exceptionally good, with no rips or other damage. I don't have a box for postage, so this will have to be collection only.

The future of amps & cabs - stage props only?
Woodinblack replied to SimonK's topic in Amps and Cabs
It does in some things. If you went to a Rock or metal gig, you would expect to see a whole load of marshals along the back, even if they weren't being used. Otherwise it just looked wrong. In other groups, it is probably less important, or you don't even notice.
