  1. Past hour
  2. I would expect the weight of JB4 and SR4N string necks to be relatively close to one another.
  3. I need a set of measurements from a 4 string jazz bass neck just to check against the 3D model. Can anyone provide widths at nut, 12th fret and20th fret? Likewise depth of neck at nut, 12th fret and end of the neck heel? Also length of heel to the start of the shoulder?
  4. What made you pick up that first bass at the start of this long and winding road? Aged 19 or 20 (can’t remember) and had never played an instrument in my life. Went out with some friends away at uni who were home for the hols and when we got back to his place he pulled a black & maple precision. I was hooked from that very moment. That was 1978. Do you still have the same fire and enthusiasmr? Do you still love it? Of course. I didn’t play at all between the ages of 24 and 50 but it’s a huge part of my life now especially since I retired What has changed along the way? The internet ! - the resources out there are so vast compared to the early days. I’ve never read music and still learn songs by memory. Any song you need to learn is available to you. Your taste in music, taste in basses? Taste in music - wide and varied, always has been. Interesting how we have gaps in our music exposure which normally fits in with having children and therefore no time to listen to anything knew. Taste in basses - having been through dozens of basses since I started playing again I have settled on my Dingwall ABZ. Can’t see me ever parting with it What was the first bass? A p bass copy of unknown origin. First proper bass was Ibanez Roadster bought from Curly Music in Liverpool And what’s the latest? Latest bass was a Dingwall NG3 4 string. Very nice but the ABZ is better. But a few months ago I decided to learn drums so funds have gone on building a nice Roland e-kit
  5. Great sounding road worn Jazz Bass with one of the best necks I have ever played. Well known bass guitar with an excellent reputation and Google it for the positive reviews. Serial number dates it December 2018, neck dated May 2018, the bass is based on, I believe, a 1961 Shell Pink jazz bass coupled with a pair of American-made Pure Vintage '64 Jazz Bass single-coil pickups, stacked concentric controls, a 7.25"-radius rosewood fingerboard with a 1.5" wide nut. In excellent original condition, as road worn, with little, if any, fret wear as virtually unplayed by previous owner. Comes with original gig bag and I acquired this bass in a trade some 15 months ago but kept longer than I thought I would as it is so playable. However I prefer the P Bass sound and have decided to sell it to further the quest for a P Bass with a jazz neck that stills sounds like a P Bass. Therefore trade wise would consider ideally a Hama Okamoto P bass/ Aerodyne or similar P or PJ Bass with cash either way as appropriate.. I am unable to post and live near Loughborough so could meet up at a M1 local junction although you may prefer to try before you buy. Happy to answer any questions - thanks

  6. A welcome return to one of our favourite venues this Sunday. Should hopefully be busy with it being a Bank Holiday weekend.
  7. I've had this a couple of times. Not mains shock, but a lip tingle - being moist and crammed with receptor cells the lips are very sensitive to static and fairly low potentials. These days a cause can be double-insulated gear 'floating' above ground, one cause can be both ends of a signal chain with a ground lift perhaps made worse by leakage across ans SMPSU. Double insulated chargers can do this. So perhaps start by checking the mic's ground is continuous with earth.

  11. There is no set amount of time, or even rule of thumb. Natural talent takes you further and in less time. Those less blessed (me) need to practice things till you can’t get them wrong. I’d suggest a teacher to help you over the rocky bits
  12. Just watching Chappell Roan at Reading, don’t know any of the material but very enjoyable, great to see such a good artist/band.
  13. I have a Black Vehicle overdrive. It's got the driven amp sound down, plus a really flexible boost circuit that allows you to control how much pre and post gain it adds. Lots of sounds on tap. My only criticism would be that it is a single mix knob, rather than a dedicated dry signal control.
  14. First week back after a 2 month break due to holidays and other commitments! Felt good to play again as I've not had the time at home to pick my bass up mostly due to my daughter learning to walk (10 months 🙃) Everyone got on well and had learnt the required material, very enjoyable
  15. Other than learning songs for gigs, for the last 3/4 months on my journeys I have been listening exclusively to the Blindboy Podcast - incredibly varied, interesting and entertaining human being
  16. Great set up. Ran exactly the same rig for a few years pre covid. GLWTS
  17. Hi everyone Selling this Aguilar rig .The amp was up for sale recently and withdrawn as a friend wanted to buy it. Unfortunately this deal has not materialised due to some sad circumstances and so now I am re listing it along with an SL410 it is an extraordinary rig with power/ width/ girth - almost a physical experience as well as tonally One of the greatest amps that still is seen on stages all over the world it is in a sleeve which is in good condition The cab is in very good condition with no tears and only a couple of light scuffs Price wise, I am happy to discuss but the amp is around £1350 ovno and the cab at £650 ovno Happy to split, answer any questions and discuss shipping Thanks for looking and just ask if you need Open to offers.

  18. One of the best combo around, and it's damn powerful. GLWYS.
  19. I played keys as a teenager and a friend got me into Rush, so I bought "A Show Of Hands" 'cos it had loads of songs with keyboards on. A reasonable choice. Then I heard the Geddy's bass run on "closer to the heart" on side 4 (it was on vinyl in those days) and knew that I just HAD to make those sounds. Sadly I never have, but I've occasionally come close.
  20. Only one of them can hold a tune though, the other couldn't carry it in a bucket!
  21. I bought one these just a couple of weeks ago: https://www.thomann.co.uk/km_141_mkii.htm It's designed for DB rather than EUB but it does an excellent job of holding my BSX Allegro. It also folds up very neatly into a sensible package. @bassplayer76 whereabouts in the country are you?
  22. Some of my upcoming gigs...
  23. 1976. 15 years old with my first bass. Made by Gary Nava, school mate (now makes bespoke instruments for people like Matt Bellamy). 2024. My last gig before retiring from live bass duties.
  24. @Stub Mandrel check out Cosmic Fuzz
  25. I started on a 6-string nylon which I ruined by adding steel strings. I got my first bass at 13, it was a semi hollow Hofner with a banana neck which I ruined by over tightening the truss rod. My first 'proper' bass was an old Epiphone SG style and then my Dad stumped up for a 73 Rickenbacker 4001 in black with the rare checkerboard binding (thanks Dad). This bass inspired my BC handle. Stupidly sold it in the early 80's for £275 and spotted it recently in Andy Baxter's shop for £4000. Ho hum. I was inspired to play bass cos with fewer strings, it looked easier than playing a 6-string.
