What happens when crap bands go unchecked? Worst case scenario- Coldplay, that's what happens. -

That really wound me up as well. Since when is on the player to provide all the gear needed to go in to a PA anyway.

Todays light reading threw up this old post which has peaked my interes:- Check and see if you have a .0047 capacitor in-line with the bridge pickup. Most 4001/4003 Rickenbacker basses do. To fatten the sound of (pre-2011) 4003s this capacitor needs to be removed or bypassed I'm led to believe. It acts as a hi-pass filter on the bridge pickup cutting off the lower frequencies. Apparently the latest 4003s have a push-pull setup on one of the knobs to engage and disengage this capacitor, giving what they call "Classic" (ie. trebly) and "Modern" (ie. full) sounds. This capacitor is missing from my own 4001 (it was gone when I bought it second hand 20 years ago) and it sounds awesome! Somewhat "fuller" than my Fender in fact.

Markbass 1 15 lightweight cabinet. Started life as a Markbass CMD JB Players School Combo but the amp failed. The amp was disposed of leaving a cheap and cheerful lightweight 1 15 cabinet 200w 8ohm. Unconventional connector- has fixed cable original to combo with speak-on plug attached Approx. dimensions (W x H x D): 47.5 x 46.4 x 48 cm Weight: a very manageable 14 kg, easy one hand lift looking for £125 collect meet up. Will be able to courier once I’ve sourced packaging material’s

No guesswork involved; fast mode simply spits out the previously-detected note until it fully reads the new one. It’s the same underlying detection routine in both modes though.

Without detailed specs on the woofer and tweeter one cannot construct an ideal crossover. If you have the impedance of the drivers you can use an off the shelf crossover that will still be better than what you have, for instance https://www.parts-express.com/Eminence-PX-BII-3K5-2-Way-Crossover-Board-3-500-Hz-290-636?quantity=1

I agree with everything, have also found single pickup basses generally track better and Stingrays too but with a the bass dialled back a little.

Is the compressor in the One any good?

And One Of The Days by Pink Floyd (obvs prefer the live versions!) - That dotted 8ths pedal groove is SO effective and perfect for grabbing the delay pedal out. #NerdAlert - I remember watching John Giblin playing for Simple Minds at the Nelson Mandela concert - so much so that I recall him playing a Fender Power Jazz Bass Special - my PJ's of choice these days, cracking out a delay pedal at the end of the song. It's funny how these memories seem to come back to me when I read basschat posts!

I remember you having severe doubts about keeping it - glad you managed to overcome them. Sadly your original thread has been Imgured. The biggest issue is that the fingerboard runs the length of the bass - however, as Jon said, he knows how it went together. And that also means that he can change the scale length while he's at it, so there is an upside.
