That EHB will sound VERY different. I've had a bass with those Fishman pickups and could not get on with them - very 'EQ'd' sound, like a more extreme EMG. I would also say the Dingwall quality will exceed the Ibanez.

Is the singer ok with that? Looks like you need to start another wine-bar vibe band with someone more reliable.

In your position I`d contact the drummer and ask when our next wine-bar vibe/non-rock/blues band rehearsal was booked for, adding that I`m really looking forward to it after my holiday. Essentially, make the tosser squirm.

Why would you be updating the apps you use on a gigging iPad? I have an iPad for iPadding, like the latest thing, and I have a cheap iPad air which runs the mixer / lyrics / Some soft synths (though not currently, it used to). It does exactly what it did the day I loaded that software, and will continue doing so until it fails or gets replaced with something else, gets smashed falling off a stand (which note it has done many times, the falling, not the smashing), or gets nicked.

I set up my band with the drummer. We agreed right from the start that it would be a wine-bar vibe, not a rock band. Songs were chosen, band name was chosen, singer recruited with this in mind. Two guitarists came and went. I went on holiday 2 weeks ago knowing a new guitarist was going to jam with the band. He turned out to be a rock/blues guitarist keen to play long solos. Drummer decided that was good and that I wouldn't want to go there. So, while I'm on holiday, the band recruited a replacement bassist who is happy to play rock/blues. All this happened without anybody speaking to me. How cowardly and underhand is that?

That's not the behaviour I have experienced on my iPads. If the latest version of an app requires a more up to date version of iOS than you have it just won't get installed. The old version carries on working as before. Again if the app does everything you needed/wanted when you originally installed it then there is no reason to update. For any piece of technology that is mission critical, and I would included anything I use to gig with, automatic updates are turned off and updates are only applied if they definitely add extra functionality that I will use and they don't conflict with anything else on the device.

I'm very fickle, but having owned the Cort Space 5, and and Ibanez EHB, and now considering different lightweight 5 string basses I'm led back to the Space 5. It's suprising what a difference a few hundred grams can make to comfort, and headless seems the only way to achieve that and still have good balance (and the bonus of being very stable tuning). The new Ibanez EHBs look good but they cost about £1k more, that feels difficult to justify, and I'm not against multiscale - but also don't feel it is particularaly game changing stuff, it isn't without some drawbacks. One thing I think I will do though is sand down the right-angle edge on the top of the body where the forearm meets the bass and I guess try and put on some wood dye...that'll immediately significantly de-value it for any resale as I'm no craftsman! but perhaps that will encourage me to be more committed to it rather than selling on again!
