    Has anyone bought a JPTR pedal recently? I’ve recently ordered a Deluxe Jive 10th Anniversary Edition handed over my £ dosh and to be honest didn’t realise it was a pre order and by the looks of it could take a ‘while’ I’d have thought the best scenario as a business would be for them to make a batch then sell them, can’t get a reply out of them with a guesstimate on delivery timescale. Anyhoo I’m sure it will be worth the wait however long that might be

    I've wrapped scratchplates before , I had a ebay bitsa with an " interesting screw layout " , bit of cheap matt black worked wonders and it wore well for years. I ended up giving the bass away to a friends daughter who was playing guitar and wanted to expand her vocab to bass as well i bet its still good.

    @Stub Mandrel thanks, yes actually I’m already using a DI/audio interface for teaching using my headway acoustic 2 channel preamp/DI which feeds into my RME Babyface audio interface (which, like all the RME stuff is high quality kit). You could argue then, why the worry about a fanless amp if my teaching needs are already covered - but ideally I’d prefer to use a dedicated bass preamp rather than the Headway (which nevertheless is my reference DI box, it’s so quiet). @Hellzero good advice - what’s making me pause for thought here is that the GR One 800 is at the upper end of my budget and is hugely over watted for what I’m likely to use (as would the PJB BP800) But definitely going on the considered list. There’s a few online demos I’ve found that has at least given me some sense of the sonic character of the Eich, Genzler and GR One. They all sound very much in the same ball park, with their respective EQ sections and contour options adding some differences - although this is less of an consideration for me as I have the EQ2 programmable pedal which gives me full control over 10 bands, Q widths etc. From my limited point of view I would say that the Eich sounds a shade warmer with the other two just a little more sterile.

    A bit of an oddity this. There's a couple of open mic nights local to me, and I've accompanied [1] a teenage female vocalist and a teenage female guitarist, and they recruited a (teenage female) drummer and formed a band. They had got a (teenage female) bassist too but that didn't work out. They still wanted to rehearse so got in touch with me and I said yes. Went over the songs they wanted to do, enough to be able to play them (not learnt them, can play them using my notes). Got there and the drummer was there, vocalist came soon afterwards, then the guitarist some time later. Drummer's mum was there, guitarist's dad and gran (I think her mum would have been there but she's got a broken foot), and both the vocalist's parents. Cue faffing around with PA and guitar amp and pedalboard by parents, pedalboard playing up, deciding it was the daisy chain off the power supply causing it, and then rehearsing some songs. After this, the parents rather took over and started working out a set list for 45 minutes, on the premise that they would play festivals - I'm not really a festival goer but I've always assumed that bands playing festivals, other than the tribute band festivals, would be playing originals in the main. I think this may be because various members of Jayler play at the open mic nights and Jayler are on the festival circuit, but they do original songs. Guitarist's dad was talking about charging for entry somewhere, but this would be for a 45 minute set of covers which I don't think would be a sufficient attraction, even with four attractive female teenagers (assuming it wouldn't be three attractive female teenagers and one handsome male pensioner). They are all very talented - the bassist that they had in was very good but for some reason (that I almost found out) it didn't work out. I've said I'm OK to help them with future rehearsals until they're sorted with a bassist. [1] My solicitors have advised against me saying "played with"

    I was lucky enough to play a lot of basses through my work in music retail over a long time, so I’m not fussy about adapting to different specs (I guess in the same a mechanic would jump in numerous cars per day and not think too much about biting points, break sensitivity etc) and I’m pretty good at being able to see those specs on paper and understand how it aligns to my preferences (so I don’t mind a punt online personally!). Like you say though, it can be a huge swing in terms of what feels right from player to player and if you’re more sensitive to those changes impacting your playing, it’s definitely worth try-before-buy.

    ...? conclusion so far: i was simply hoping to find someone who experienced/build an vertical defretted bass. pro' & con's, ideas etc to hold on to the thought of only ONE instrument offering all bass sounds & expressions. -doubleneck via -fr/fl on one neck via -etc pp

    A friend of mine posted a picture of his 54 Telecaster today, as he's had it for two years. In that time he's had four fret dresses and a pickup rewind, but he does play about 350 gigs a year. That's how vintage guitars should be treated.

    Picton Music and John Hamm’s Music in Swansea were the places that got me started with Satelitte, Westone, Washburn, Charvel and the other hallowed 80s brands. I’ve still got my Arion tuner from Christmas 1986 that came from Picton Music. Legend has it there were bigger music shops in Cardiff, a whole 40 miles away, but we never made it that far (too young to drive and too far to cycle).

    Bought in the hope i could get away with 30 all valve watts but unfortunately not. Brand new JJ EL84’s fitted and comes with a spare set of EH valves. Really nice amp and tone to die for - if i could have this tone with more power id be in heaven! Collection from Bolton or could do a meet up. Could cut a deal if you want the ABM 4x10 ive also advertised on here

    A quick google seems to show this is two channel and also not available anymore? Looking on Andertons etc. there are some single channel studio compressors, but all quite expensive and I'm not sure whether they would cope in a travelling rack (as opposed to being mounted and left alone in a studio). I think the sort of thing I am after is a Keeley Compressor pro, or maybe Empress bass compressor, but in a rack rather than a pedal.

    Ach, no matter, probably blast a couple more coats on that, then flatten back, then polish. Should be fine. Was just annoyed because it had been going on smooth and great until then.

    @ClusterOne Thanks for the info. Same buzz with cable but no bass. Briefly this morning when I had some time I connected both the 500 iii and the 300 iv and left an instrument cable unconnected to a bass. Both make the same noise/sound, with the 300 being a little louder. Touching the tip, same sound. And, kind of "shorting" the cable trick by touching the sleeve and then the tip, both make noise when this is done (louder hum). I had input/output low as it was early. At lunch will try again, but I'm beginning to wonder if it's not something in the house since neither one was quite when I "short" out the cable. (Said the person who knows nearly nothing!) Wed night I will try another location entirely and see what happens.

    I didn't actually say anything about my actual core tone. I just find that I can get a decent pick or finger tone without having to massively change the EQ I am using at a given time. My main amp is a Mesa Walkabout, about 50% of the tone shaping on the amp is based from where the gain control is set. It isn't a very 'flat' amp with settings all at 12 o'clock to start with, but it sounds really nice fingerstyle or pick, so I tend to EQ more for the room/stage rather than making big tonal shaping moves on the amp.

    Quick one for you experts. I'm tempted by a Barefaced Big Twin 2 Gen 3 that has come up, reasonably nearby to me. I already have a BB3, and the Big Twin would take up a lot of space in my car alongside an upright bass. Possibly I couldn't get both in. But in the heat of battle the BB3 alone feels like it's at it's limits. I have already blown a crossover once. In my position would you resist the Big Twin and look out for another BB3 to stack? Am I going to get the same meat from 2 BB3s as I would from a Big Twin, do you reckon? It's just easier to transport 2 smaller cabs, and I can leave one at home for smaller gigs. Cheers Patrick

    I’ll do that now buddy. Tested in a USA Jazz loaded body I have lying around and it fits in the pocket lovely.
