New Model Army - Thunder and Consolation. The band was a trio at the time (with a violin player coming in on a few of the album tracks) but the interplay between bass and drums is exceptional. Sounds like a P bass with a pick cranked up loud, locked in with a really “busy but good” drummer. Try “Family” and “The Ballad of Bodmin Pill” for starters. Inspirational stuff.

PaulKing started following Mic for live and quick recording? and Oiling a double bass
-
I used gunstock oil recently. I really like the finish. It HAS darkened the colour a bit, but in a good way (it looks more vintaged). I'm happy.
-
This is sufficiently interesting to warrant its own post. There's probably been one before, but I'm gonna raise the issue again, without hi-jacking this thread.

Bass not cutting through? Loudness could be the answer
Bill Fitzmaurice replied to Phil Starr's topic in Amps and Cabs
That's one, University of Salford is another. That was quantified by Bell Labs, which invented the dB, as in deci Bell. -

That works, it's called the Sub Crawl. https://www.audioholics.com/home-theater-connection/crawling-for-bass-subwoofer-placement

Get a multi fx with multiple built in amp sims as well numerous distortion effects and see what works. I use an HX Stomp which would definitely do the job, but there are probably other more recent units available that will give the same plethora of options, some of them are probably cheaper too.

Thanks Luke! What's the issue with the C4 tracking, for those of us who have never owned one?

Rexel Matador started following Massive filth
-
I have a Darkglass Microtubes X Ultra - it processes the lows and highs separately - Compression on the lows, overdrive on the highs. Sounds immense and can get plenty filthy if you want it to. They're not cheap, but there's a mini version which I think is basically the same concept.

I had no idea if he's a member on here or anything so kept my thoughts to myself - but would agree - it's painful watching! @Kev - skip through and miss bits! My take, reinforces what I thought - Enzo X probably not deigned for bass... C4, the thing that annoyed me with the tracking you could hear on the video (bought and sold one twice) FI4 - sounds best to me and can do a lot MXR - pretty much on par and can do less with a simpler interface.

One of these keeps coming up for sale near me; I think the seller takes it down if it hasn't sold within a couple of weeks and then puts it back up again a few weeks later. I've been tempted a few times, they look cool.

I just looked at the DFSchat forum, and they have a topic called sofas on the bass.

TRBboy started following Ibanez BTB uncomfortable to play?
-
They're great basses, but 35" scale with wide-ish spacing, and overall just feel 'big' to me, but I wouldn't say uncomfortable as such. You need to try the model you have your eye on really and judge for yourself. I know personally I would feel more comfortable with an SR than a BTB.

@jimbobothy Hi, I've got the origin effects bass comp and thinking about getting the DCX bass pedal. I think that you have this combination. Wondered if you could offer a view about what the EQ is like please? Like you I wouldn't be using drive much at all as I much prefer a cleaner sound. Appreciate any views you are able to share and I realise that this is all highly subjective! Alan

Mine doesn't drop the signal, and it isn't touch sensitive or anything, it is just very noisy, If I connect the receiver to a normal 5M+ guitar lead via an adapter, it is absolutely fine, but that really isn't the point! Its fine for at home though, so now it is my home device. It was actually ok if you didn't use overdrive or something gigging, as the noise was below the guitarists noise, but put any drive on it and it got very bad.

How do I change the email address of my account ?
Woodinblack replied to Leftypete's question in Site Issues and Questions
The quickest way to do it is to go to Support at the top and send a support request, saying you want to change your email, what your email is and what you want it to be, and then it can be done. -
2025 SE Bass Basheroonie! Sunday 9/11/25 *CONFIRMED*
NancyJohnson replied to NancyJohnson's topic in Events
Unless there's anyone on the list, then nobody specific. Basic setups are a breeze to do (intonation etc.) but I'd be reluctant to break out the soldering iron or do fret levelling.
