i recently bought a couple of labella tape wounds strings 760n from bass direct who gave me xl length instead as they didn't have any regular scale lengths in stock. When i asked them if this was ok they just said i have to be "very careful" ?? Before i break open the string set and cut them can anyone tell me if it's possible to do this without the silken end part being totally removed thus allowing the tape covering to unravel ...this all sounds potentially a tad janky to me.

Took a year off in the mid 80’s when my daughter was born, then got offered a job in a resident club band and needed the dosh so back I went. Went pro in the early 90’s and apart from the Covid thing have been busy ever since. I think that year off made me realise how much of me still wanted to play music for a living, so in a way it did me good. I’m supposedly ‘semi- retired’ now, but still doing a fair few gigs, just more locally than before. Can’t see that changing for a good while yet either.

The Black Horse in Whitwick was the first gig in a few weeks and a good job too - we've all had man-flu during the downtime. Luckily I am just about over mine now, but it was pretty grim at the start and then spent ages slowly trailing off. Anyway nothing that a bit of performance adrenaline can't fix. Although I'd created events on Facebook the guitarist/vocalist didn't do any further plugging with a day or two to go like normal, because he wasn't certain we'd be able to play. So it was satisfying that we managed to fill the place on a dark, wet and gloomy Friday night. We played quite a few songs that we don't do often so that made a nice change too. The Stingish bass is becoming a mainstay now - it's just so lovely to play. Boss GT-6B multi-fx into the Big Muff that I'm still playing with (more fuzz, more fuzz!) and thence into the fabulous Rumble v3 500 combo. Some nice compliments too to round off the night. I think we only have one weekend kept free for the rest of the year now - the long run towards NYE has started

😲 I absolutely wasn't suggesting you should do that!!! I just showed that as an example of how someone corrected a build flaw in a through-neck bass, where there wasn't an alternative fix, short of prising off the whole fretboard & replacing it with a thicker one! You have other alternatives available - it occurs to me you could shim the length of the 'through' neck with a series of graduating thin shims, layered like steps, so they add height at the bridge end but not the heel end - I did something similar to a guitar with a fairly long heel, using layers of thin plastic card. If someone else already suggested this, just ignore me. I really should go to bed...

Great work - I spied the drolo in the for sale, and figured it would be an easy fix - but would have boarded space for it!! It will work, but for next time replacing the links between the boards with the longer cables isn’t best idea… there’s the aim to keep tracks to the minimum you can to fit it all in, and also in some cases thr circuitry that the cables are looped over might cause noise in the signal. Nice work though! Tayda are a legit cheap supplier, a lot of parts are generic so you could have found any pot the same size and value.

Yamaha's bass division might be a bit slow, but the guitar side is diabolical for getting models out. There are some vaunted basses in the Yamaha line, there's virtually nothing on the guitar side. No models, no endorsements, no marketing, no sales. I'm sure the guitars are actually really good for the price, but nobody knows they exist. In comparison, the bass side of the business is booming. Some big names, some great models that really are premium quality, up there with the best type stuff. You could argue perhaps that Yamaha aren't targeting new players, I suppose. Sheehan, Patitucci and East are big names but they've all been around a while. As those big names age, you need new, younger players showing your brand off to attract younger buyers. Fender understands this and has aggressively pursued Gen Z through their artist signings and models, using Fender, Charvel and Jackson to reach different market areas. Obviously, Yamaha are not going to be competing on that scale, but as good as Yamahas are, I don't think many younger players gravitate towards the brand so maybe it would be worth Yamaha trying to change that. However, I expect for a corp the size of Yamaha, it's small fry and budgets will be set accordingly, so perhaps there is only so much the guitar and bass divisions can. 'We are poised to deliver results but will need a bigger budget' 'Budgets will remain the same, please deliver aforementioned results' I've always wanted a Yamaha BB with a maple fretboard so I could have it refinished in a light purple / pearl / pink sparkle like Billy Sheehan used with DLR in the 80s. It's one of the basses I regret not owning before moving back to electric guitar. I still own a modified Attitude LTD II that is just a cracking bass. It's not worth a tonne as a result of being modified and I keep meaning to sell it but it's just such a fantastic rock bass and the seafoam green LTD II is a special instrument to me, as that is what he played with Steve Vai when he and Steve were at the peak of their powers.

Or this But with Or most any other distortion pedal + crossover blend will also need phase inversion when it is on. Without minding phase a returned distortion pedal signal is 180° out. The lower mid fraction remaining collides with its clean other half and the crossover frequency gets chopped.

Nearly 25 years out getting married, having a daughter. Getting back into music helped me cope with divorce. I'm only an amateur but I identify more with being a bass player than my various work identities.

This is a nice combo for a pretty good price.

Nuns Of The Tundra in Frome tonight. Absolutely brilliant performance, solid desert metal riffs and a mountain of groove. I booked tickets as soon as it was announced and then my daughters band Butane Skies were booked to support and they went down really well.

The picture of the 1153T that you found online is probably a mark 5 or 6 cab, so at least ten years older than yours (or more). If they have carpeting they are from the late 1990s (my favourites), and as mentioned the riveted on logo started being a thing when manufacturing moved abroad. I haven't seen the carpeting AND the riveted logo before which makes me suspicious that this was one of the very last UK made cabs that was probably sold with the new logo between the beginning of the Gibson ('98) then Peavey ('05) eras.
