    Mostly it isn't the sound guy based on the antics of primadonna (inexperienced) bands that I've seen. We played a local pub 'festival' for several years, the last one the local 'famous' band had been relegated to support. Speaking to the sound guy (line up organiser), he was less than complimentary about them, their lack of professionalism and level of expectation. He said he'd put us as headliners as we just "got on stage and played". It was quite painful listening to band after band "soundcheck" throughout the day. We should remember that the sound guy is often the person who will report back to the venue organiser and recommend whether a band comes back and plays a more popular night, or never returns. There are more bands than venues.

    Depends what the other issues are. The wood grain in the top wouldn’t bother me at all, but if you’ve had two basses each with problems I’d be more concerned about deciding whether those are acceptable.

    Cut a suitable pick-guard (scratch plate...) to shape; black, maybe. It'll hide any mis-match. Problem solved.

    I once spent £250 on a pickguard and it wasn't quite that nice. Of course it came with a free bass

    Origin Super Vintage does a better SVT, especially the drive side of things, the Broughton Effects SV-Pre is also a better SVT drive and matches your needs perfectly I think if you’re just running it into an amp - you can pick them up pretty cheap used and they’re excellent

    John is a real gent. Travelled all the way down to purchase a bass cabinet. Great communication. 100 percent trustworthy guy. Would highly recommend!

    I'd also say that any business where the clientele age averages more than 65 is on the slide without new blood anyway...

    Ooooo, yer all posh: for a good while (maybe 30 gigs?) I've been using a pair of £62 Lekato MS-02s - super light, tiny and handy, battery lasts hours (never got down to even half the charge lights on them with 4-hour gigs (start to finish)), 5ms latency, no dropouts and even a stereo option that, as mentioned above, I've never got to use...you'll need an XLR to 3.5mm jack adaptor, but that's it...

    I agree with you on a fair amount of the above. To me the game changer came with the introduction of the Specials and the Shorty. I use a Darkray and an EBMM shorty on gigs, both have great tone and are 8.5 and 7.5lb respectively

    That top shouts a routed (slap) pop spacing between the neck and the neck pickup. If you add a ramp between pickups, everything's fine.

    Congrats. Bear in mind this can be a rabbit hole.....I started off with a second hand Mikey Way Squier Mustang and I've ended up with, what I consider to be, 2 expensive shorties. So the journey has involved money, but I got there in the end and the shorties take 90% of the gigs these days.

    'Blade' used to be a top quality Japanese manufacturer but I'd be surprised if this is the exact same outfit even though the name and logo look the same.

    Does it play and sound good? How much does it owe you? I kind of like it, but your priorities and preferences may not match mine... So if it bothers you then you should probably think about sending it back....

    I am using and abusing (for 6 months, at least 3 gigs a week) the Xvive U45. The rest of my band has the U4s and we are all happy with them. I have to say that I have mine attached to my pedalboard because I have a Rolls PM351 before it to level my bass myself (I had horrible experiences with soundguys). Except for ona project that we make our own mix using an app, for the rest I use the Xvive. I have used the Sennheiser XSW in the past with good results. Some droputs sometimes, but it was all good overall.
