  1. Past hour
  2. Great set up. Ran exactly the same rig for a few years pre covid. GLWTS
  3. A few observations - some truisms - some tongue in cheek: Not all double bass strings are (or at least appear to be) higher tension than electric bass strings. Weedwackers are about the equivalent of trying to make music with four strands of well cooked spaghetti. While my own preferred Rotosound 4000 'bumped' set has the forgiving (and strangely exciting) resistance of old and well used knicker elastic. I think my Stentor double bass doesn't realise it's a double bass - because all four strings have been off (at the same time) - in fact the bridge fell over twice - once at rehearsal during a particularly spirited rendering of Baby Let's Play House (on the descending run bit)- and it has done all this without its sound post moving one fraction of a millimetre! It's against the laws of nature I tell ee! I use a string winder on a cordless - but as Roto 4000 strings are for some reason 4/4 only - and about six miles too long - so my peg box looks like four 'beach fisherman's bird's nests' after 'cracking off' a succession of six ounce grip weights! This all goes to prove ... there is a council of perfection ... and the way us mere rockabilly/Psychobilly mortals do things 😉
  4. Yeh Harry Styles, Olivia Rodrigo, and Billie Eilish are yet to achieve success at chart level 😂
  5. Pictures to follow later today. For sale is my barely used Valeton Bass Dapper in the original box with PSU and mini manual. I've used it maybe 3 to 4 times at home only and it was originally purchased to use as a DI into the PA. Now that I'm winding down and getting rid of stuff, this is up for grabs. It has several components, most of which are clones of well known gear: - Tuner - Compressor/boost - Envelope filter - Drive - Octaver - Chorus - XLR DI output and an effects loop £60 including UK postage.
  6. Price drop - £155 includes UK postage Hi, I’m selling my Aguilar Octamizer version 2. Well looked after and very little use. £185 price includes UK Postage. Here’s a bit of info from Aguilar: AN ALL-ANALOG OCTAVE PEDAL THAT CREATES A WIDE RANGE OF MUSICAL SOUNDS AN OCTAVE BELOW YOUR BASS SIGNAL. Modeled with old school and new school needs in mind, the Octamizer features independent volume controls for both the Clean and Octave sounds. This makes dialing in the exact amount of each a cinch. The two discrete signal paths also have their own tone controls that were specifically designed to enhance and expand their musical possibilities. The CLEAN TONE control uses a full spectrum tilt EQ, allowing for the boosting of treble while cutting bass or boosting of bass while cutting treble. This unique circuit allows you to create a clean sound that creates an octave doubling effect or to blend the sounds together for a great thick, snarky synth tone. *Pedal powered by universal 9-volt power supply only. Not included. Proprietary detector circuit for superior tracking Continuously variable multipole low-pass filter for Octave sound Dual filter architecture Full spectrum tilt EQ for clean sound Pedal powered by universal 9-volt power supply only. Not included. Cheers! Michael

  8. What do you mean! You don’t need 3 !!! The more, the merrier 😜
  9. having kinda done that... the key is working out what things work best in a HX stomp or equivalent and what doesn't. And then what doesn't but you can accept the compromise.
  10. That’s what you call normal
  11. it is still almost immaculate. A bit of a case queen these days. I think we did the deal just before/during lockdown 1
  12. Hahaha, I couldn’t resist another one. That red one is absolutely stunning – almost like new from what I remember. It’s also a very good weight. My current one is reasonable but some are really chunky. Fantastic basses
  13. I guess there’s always also the old chestnut that the old music we’re still listening to now is the stuff that was good, and the stuff from back then that was terrible has been justly forgotten.
  14. A HX stomp can be had for £400 used, less if you get a bargain. That won't buy you many single pedals these days, especially when you'll also need a board, some patch cables, a power supply... Edit - Stuck in a boring work meeting ("no updates from me thanks") and got to thinking. My small analogue board is a PT Nano and a Cioks Adam, with a Korg Pitchblack, Darkglass VMT and Tech 21 Paradriver. Thomann tells me that's £715 these days, not including the velcro or the patch cables, and admittedly with the current smallest Cioks unit which does look a little better than the Adam. The HX Stomp is £545. It would be cheaper and smaller for me to buy the Stomp, superglue the 3 switches to tuner, overdrive and amp emulation, and never use any of the other blocks. Madness.
  15. The Japanese Metros are some of the best basses in the world, regardless of money; glwts
  16. I've got one in black and been playing loads recetlntly. Real quality basses. GLWTS
  17. Today
  18. Bargain alert! Ihave a 1980 Elite and that era was superb.
  19. Matching headstock phwoarrr!!!
  20. Hey all, looking to move on my GR Cube 800 1x12 combo. Basically as new condition. Has done two gigs and other than that mainly has been used as a home practice amp. It sounds ace and weighs 9.5kg!! Even still has all the plastic covering the shiny bits. Comes with the manufacturers branded fitted cover. current cost is about £1400 including then cover. So £950 seems a bit of a bargain!

  21. Yes, this is correct. As a bassist, in this style of music the rhythm you play is much more important than getting in other scalar notes or runs. For now I'd stick with playing just the root, 5th and octave of each change for now. Listen to the bassist on track and copy the rhythms even if you choose different notes. You can always get more advanced later. Bb/C is a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slash_chord To clarify, over that chord, continue use the notes C (root) G (fifth) and C (octave) - not Bb and F.
  22. Ah you have the Bb (flat 7th) instead of the 5th at the ends. I think I have to agree with you on that.
