  1. Past hour
  2. Bought a pedal from Kevin in a sweet deal. Highly recommended!
  3. I have a headless that's forty years old. It may have been innovative once but it's vintage now. The hanging mechanism (which shouts 'gimmick' and appears to lack the obvious improvement of gearing the two sides together) could be described as innovative in application if not mechanism. But just being a headless bass is not innovative in any way.
  4. Yeah, like I said - not all Dingwalls are that heavy....but they do all tend to be on the hefty side of things, I see a Combustion currently for sale on here is 4.7kg and that isn't unusual. An average Combustion or NG3 seems to be at least 4.2kg. I'd hope something that sort of weight doesn't have neck-dive or something is quite seriously wrong with the design. The trickly thing is making a well-balanced lightweight 5 string - like the Ibanez EHB MS average of about 3.3kg.
  5. All sorted, thank you, hopefully I can buy this lake placid blue p bass so I have 3 candy apple red and 3 lake placid blue, it's all off balance at the moment
  6. I could probably be tempted by a headless d-roc.
  7. Bently Heath charge £180 for a full day 9:30am-6:00pm and seem to have availability in April and June. I shall start a new thread, see what dates suit people, and then - as there will be no consensus - just book a weekend anyway!
  8. I shall say hi from Andy. But he's a tough one, not what I'd call very "front of house" but that's where all my amps go now for that level of expertise and it's nearly 2.5h each way, which for the UK is a long drive 😉
  9. An NS Icon NT replacing the NS Ethos would make sense (and also close the price gap between the NS Bolt-on and the Euro). As Aguilar and Spector both belong to Korg, they could go for Aguilar pickups and preamp again. Someone left this question in the comments for the official Spector NS Icon Bolt-On video and Spector replied. I am not really into emojis, so I asked Gemini what the eyes emoji stands for and here is the answer. Well, still don't know what the eyes emoji means in this context. Flirting maybe? 😉
  10. Doesn't stop them being more innovative than a traditional headstock. e.g. this new Dingwall hanging mechanism, quite unique looking string clamps at the headstock end and a fairly unique looking tuning mechanism. More innovative than slapping some generic hipshot tunes onto a headstock. Isn't that what Dingwall are saying - it took a long time because it is headless and needs new innovations?
  11. Here's all the bits on a untidy bed Control panel all wired, pickups recased, pickguard printed, bridge holder and neck holder all printed and checked for fit. Next steps are drilling, filing, shaping, polishing the aluminium into shape. I may not get the chance to finish the body to the level I wanted to. Its a choice between this and the six string. Decisions, decisions, decisions....
  12. Because they've been around for about 2/3 of the history of the modern electric bass?
  13. My combustion wasn't that heavy, not that it was light, and the balance wasn't an issue with it.
  14. What a bass here.... looks amaizing,I bet sounds fantastic. 🤩
  15. I agree. Not great for their rep.
  16. @Greg Edwards69 - I see where you're coming from. I really like the form factor of my GX-100. It isn't too heavy and a good bit smaller than the Helix LT, though I wish it had a kettle lead power connection. Boss have got some features that I really like on it. While it doesn't have snapshots, the current number assignment means that if you press on the already selected patch again, you can switch things around from within it. I've got it configured to change from chorus to verses, or turning on a whole raft of effects reducing the overall number of patches I need. Bring able to do that with scenes would effectively double the number you get. And the heel down tuner on the expression pedal is THE BEST turning on implementation of a tuner I've ever had. I'll fight anyone on that. I've got it set to "thru", so you put the heel down and reverb tails still keep on going, but you've just turned down the volume, so it's muted going forward. Just roll it back up and you're in business. I really don't like having to press two buttons at the same time to change anything too. It's awkward, I'm awkward, I don't find it works well for me. Which is why I like more footswitches in the device. I'm keen to see how the MIDI implementation of the Anagram goes. Looks like they're still a way off changing effects within patches.
  17. Who wrote the script... 'comfortability'...? It's not even a word. Come on, marketing department at Korg.... that's just Buzzword Bingo.
  18. A little bit more fretless
  19. A short vid about the lightweight V6 - looks cool!
  20. Indeed, opinions are just that (including saying my opinion is nonsense!). How are Headless 'certainly not innovative' (noting that opinions are just opinions) Headless to me seems more innovative than just having a fairly standard headstock - it requires different things like new bridges/tuners/headstocks/string clamps/hanging mechanism etc. Balance is more of an issue with light basses, it's not too difficult to stop a bass having neck-dive if the body is heavy...but people don't tend to like heavy basses. I had a Combustion and it was about 4.5kg, I think that weight would be quite a downside to a lot of people - even though it balanced well (I guess it needed to be that heavy at the body partly to balance a 37" scale with a headstock and tuners at the far end). Not all Dingwalls are that heavy, but a lot are whereas something like a Ibanez EHB is about 3.3kg and well balanced. Going headless is an obvious way of being able to make the bass well balanced and light - especially on a bass with 5 strings and a long scale. Strandberg led the way with headless multiscales way back in about 2007, Ibanez released cheaper multiscale headless bass in 2020 to a mass market - they have been popular and other companies like Hils and Sire have since followed....and now Dingwall are doing the same at least about 6 years late to the party, how is that not dropping the ball on it?

  22. Stan’s a fantastic service engineer, one of the best I have worked with. Say hi to him for me.
  23. This is always my priority. You and the drummer are going to be the foundation of the band. Be seen to be aiming to lock in with them. The drummer and the sound man. Your two biggest friends on a stage.
  24. Bought a couple of months ago from BC stalwart @Sibob, this is absurdly cool (hope it's OK to pinch your advert pic, Si?). However, despite being much lighter than your average late 70s P at 8.87 pounds, its unfortunately still not light enough for my damaged back and neck (back story: horse riding accident, 18 cracked ribs front and back in 2023). Carrying it to and from a 2 hour rehearsal last week resulted in significant pain over the next 24 hours and this made the decision for me. So its collect from a public space in Barnes SW13 or delivery at cost. Asking what I paid, £2200, which I think was a fair price. More details and pics in Si's advert below. It's in the same condition and comes with a padded Fender gig bag. https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/514522-1978-precision-olympic-white-maple-lightweight-sold/ Please note: I am away from home for a few days and can only post or meet from Tuesday onwards.
