Garageband Vs Logic Pro - Which one should I choose?
AndyTravis replied to loud_melody's topic in Recording
I use GarageBand on my iPad at home and if we decide to proceed we dump the project into logic to record full drums etc. Its just a lot easier to use - the capabilities of logic far exceed that of GarageBand in terms of plug ins etc. but for any demoing etc - GarageBand is ace, really good for getting ideas down. Ive done some really good little projects on it and it’s really amazing that’s its free -
I have a problem and it looks like this piece of kit may present a solution. I have long been using an Acoustic Image Clarus using both a pick up AND a microphone for my double bass. My amp is looking like it may be on its way out and, as we all know, AI are no longer operating. I have various options for replacing the amp but none of them have two channels I can use to continue with the pick up/mic approach. This looks like it may do the job ( I have used a Fishman pre-amp to date but that is getting old now as well). Can anyone confirm that it has phantom power on the mic line and whether you can use both inputs simultaneously? It looks promising but I am an idiot when it comes to tech so need the help of a grown up. Many thanks.

Garageband Vs Logic Pro - Which one should I choose?

Then I'll have only spent 30 quid on a big pile of plugins, 🤷🏻. Have you never gained something for free on top of a purchase you wanted and not looked the gift horse in the mouth? As it happens, all of the plugins in question are well supported in to hardware that I don't even own yet, so that's a non-issue anyway. You do come across as the fun police in this post. So what if someone wants to get a plugin in because, I dunno, it looks pretty. And, actually, there are plenty of plugins out there whose presets are very valuable in learning how to set up sounds yourself. (Logic's plugin presets can be helpful ) Sonible's 'Learn' suite is a great place to start offering features that Logic does not and it was available for a super deal on Plugin Boutique recently. Logic IS very good, but lets be honest, there are better sounding plugin products out there, you know that, I know that. Of the piles of examples I could give, Spitfire's free orchestral strings sound better than Logic's. Loud_Melody has already said they want to pursue music, so why not have this discussion rather than gatekeeping the learning process? Music creation is supposed to be fun too and if a 3rd party sampler, plugin or utility product helps turn ideas in to reality, then why TF not? I just got lucky with an online promotion and maybe Loud_Melody will too. Then £30 for a professional musican / producer is looking like a pretty good deal, I guess. -

Last live music we went to was Floor Jansen’s Strijdlust concert in the Musiekgebouw in Eindhoven. Really great performance, this was an extra evening put on and it got sold out in less than an hour. The videoed the concert with the prospect of releasing it. the concept was of Floor’s fight to get where she is now, Strijdlust translates as Fighting Spirit. My wife is not a Floor fan at all and she was quite moved by the concert and the stories between the music, myself, at times it was very difficult to hold the emotions under control, especially when my wife was holding on to me very tightly.

Mint condition Funkzilla up for grabs… only used a handful of times at home… never gigged… and works perfectly. Comes with original box, bag, and manual… but I’m unable to find the 4 rubber feet at the bottom. From Premier Guitar: “Funkzilla blends an all-analog filter engine with tap tempo, variable waveforms, rhythmic patterns, direction and expression control.” Priced at £135 collected in Stevenage… or additional £5, posted to a UK address. I’m the 1st owner… since it’s not getting used, I’m putting it out for sale… but honestly, aside from being a great envelope filter in mint condition, I’m having some hesitation selling as these rarely come out for sale.

You’re time tone is really bad, …very bad, a lot of people say my time tone is the best tone they’ve ever heard…no one knows more about time tone than me, a lot of folk say that…it’s great, really great. My time amp tone has stopped a lot of wars, really bad wars…Star Wars, robot wars (that was a really bad one)…warhammer,

Imagine how I felt when the bass I ordered on 18/09/2024 finally arrived on 13/08/2025... frankly I'm amazed I got it, considering this was an oldco Bax order being fulfilled by newco Bax post bankruptcy.

I still measure myself in feet and inches and stones, pounds and ounces. If it ain't broke. . . . I drive miles in the car and fill it in £'s, not those silly litres things.

Thanks gents. I'd be very interested to know what PSUs other CQ desk owners are using? As noted above: I've got two separate AC adaptors, one that came with the unit by Fidus (made in China) for home use, and a separate one for gigs by Dongguan Lewe (also China). Both are 12V 5A 60W PSUs - but getting those spikes both at home and at gigs, which I guess suggests it's an internal desk issue? A&H recommend their spare part: AH-AM12199 PSU, but this seems to be tricky to get hold of?

I've just bought an Eden head from Nik - an ex-combo Solo CXC-300 - and the transaction couldn't have been smoother or more friendly. As there was no real posting option and we're about three hours' drive apart, Nik left the head for me to pick up from BassBros, which made the whole deal a lot easier. The head's in great condition, exactly as described and photographed, and I can heartily recommend Nik as a great BCer to do business with. Cheers, Nik!

In truth, Ashdown are very hit and miss. I never liked the ABM range at all due to the mix of sliders and knobs. Ironically, I found the MAG series amps more intuitive. The Rootmaster heads are brilliant. The cabs are awful. Just terrible. The treble end voicing is just so off and the low end is hyped to my ears. In 2005 when I was shopping about for cabs as my band was going on tour, I thought about getting an Ashdown ABM 4x10 until I discovered it was 37kg. Er... no. It didn't sound very good either. Fast forward to last year and they're trying to sell the same cab, same weight (20 years later!!!!) For £1400. Read that again. Mental isn't it? They're not lightweight, nor have they changed much in almost 30 years. It's not a Barefaced, Bergantino or anything that's boutique. You'll be giving it away in a year as nobody will buy it for more than 200 quid. The Geezer cabs are more than 2 grand each. For some purple tolex and stencil grill?!! Really?!! Who is going to buy them? As for the pedals. If you exclude the LoMenzo Hyperdrive, (which is absolutely amazing), a lot of the rest are awful. The MegaDrive is so bad nobody is going to get to review it again after that abomination that was the PMT demo. I joked a while back that it was a review that sounded so bad it bankrupted the company. I have no axe to grind here, but in many ways I don't get the fandom. Has anyone in recorded history ever used the sub harmonic generator? The pre shape being on by default except when the button is depressed is an automatic fail to me. Before anyone asks, I use a GK Fusion 1200s and Vanderkley 2x12s. I own and have used a Lomenzo Hyperdrive a lot. I'm probably biased in that I want clarity, precision and what goes in, comes out. Ashdown for the most part, don't do that due to their cabs being so coloured.

The last Ashdown head that was designed with this sort of sound in mind was the 12-band head from a few years back, which, in turn, was based on the Ashdown Labs head they made for Mark King. Most other Ashdown heads can do it, but it’s not their “default” tone. Preshape on, treble up a bit. Use a cab with a tweeter.

I have just noticed that it happens even if there is no instrument plugged into the amp and if the mute button is on or off.

Don't get me started Bill! As a school teacher I was required to educate pupils from Y1 to 6th form to be able to use feet, inches, miles, oz, lbs, pints, gallons (but not quarts) etc AND mm, cm, km, ml, L et al... still teaching this even though we went decimal 55 years ago! Honestly it used to do my head in!
