I sometimes use these, the strap still supports the weight, no changing strap pins needed and they're still secure.

Also easy to get on/off and you don't need to do anything to the strap.

I'm the same....always wondered why so many use straplocks, I can kinda understand it for high-octane stage performances (although I didn't use them during my tenure in a heavy band).....but jazzers and whatnot who have to change all their basses to straplocks.......don't get it! :)
Any bass I used on stage I'd just get a couple of washers and screw the strap to the body.
Yup, I take the strap button off but not the felt washer, put the strap into position, then a medium size metal washer then the strap button on top. (I keep the strap buttons on as my Status basses use them as feet so I don't need guitar stands).

Sometimes I use a longer strap screw if the original is a bit measly.

But if you like the look of gaffa tape then stick to what you know. Literally probably. :)
I must be doing something wrong because I don't have any problems with straps coming off and this forum is the first time I'd ever heard of straplocks!

I admit I'm not one for jumping about on stage, but even so . . .
and then one day ....
