Gizmo Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago So i've been out of the BASS/Bassist loop for a little while & after feeling the pull of the low end once again i thought i drop a post to ask about catching up on Who/What i've been missing out on for the past 15 years or so? My fav's of yesteryear player were/are guys like Bromberg/Manring/Hamm/Caron/Wooten/Malone/Miller/Larue/Campagnani/Nitti...etc, so all the slapper/taper/soloist kind of bassist that do the fusion/prog type stuff id guess, I've been catching up on these guys & sofar some good & some WTF is this mess moments Now i did drop by Youtube first to see what was up/down....BIG MISTAKE, WTF is with all this BASS BATTLE/Bass influencer stuff ? (no doubt at 52 im guessing its that i just "don't get it") 2 Guys that have popped up on the radar that i have on playback loop atm are Alex Lofoco & Fernando Molinari, both monster players that also have great tunes/groove...Id say that Alex is like all my fav player fussed into one with a health amount of himself, shame he only seems to have released one album in like 8 years? So any recommendations for me ? Cheers Quote

itu Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Women: kingaglyk.com Alissia Benveniste Mohini Dei Men: Tom Kennedy Richard Bona charlesberthoud.com I don't think you lost a thing. These are flashy players but I still think most of the bass work is done in half or first position and with roots and fifths. Good timing is still the key. 3 Quote
Count Bassy Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago (edited) The ubiquitous use of Class D amplifiers and Neodymium magnet speakers. ie speakers and cabs are smaller and/or lighter. Playing with a pick and playing slap bass, and flatwound strings are now illegal, so don't be tempted. Edited 19 hours ago by Count Bassy 2 Quote

police squad Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago not who but what Dingwall road worn single cut basses class d oh there's probably a new Fender bass, based on an old fender bass, with or without a Fender logo, made somewhere else in a factory, somewhere 3 Quote
Norris Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Whatever bass you can think of, Sire have made a cheaper copy - and usually decent quality 4 Quote
AlexDelores Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago (edited) I dread to think how many marketing emails from ScottsBassLessons you’ve missed out on in the last 15 years 👀 Edited 11 hours ago by AlexDelores 8 Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago There is a modest , underrated and highly talented bass maestro who is revered and lauded on Basschat ..Danny Sapko. Worth checking out . Davie 504 is better entertainment though imho ..” check mate ! “ Lots of headless basses with varying designs and quality control issues ( cort space 5 , Ibanez EHB etc ) 1 Quote
Hellzero Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Hadrien Féraud who simply replaced Anthony Jackson with Hiromi is a hell of a player, even if, sometimes, he plays too much And as mentioned by Anti, Kinga Głyk is certainly the most promising bassist around (she is Polish, by the way). Charles Berthoud is the best YouTuber around for sure, but even if I admire his playing, his records are really meh, I mean he's a talented player and arranger, but on the poor side when it comes to composition. Concerning the basses, Harley Benton is proposing excellent stuff at super low prices. Amp wise, we entered the fully digital era ultra lightweight items. Everything software based (modelling or sampling) is simply amazing these days. And, sadly a lot of companies have gone away in 15 years and, now, you can't afford a Wal anymore... 3 Quote

On the hardware front, Barefaced has now been overtaken by LFSys as BC's favourite speaker maker following collaboration between @stevie, @Phil Starr, and @Chienmortbb on a DIY 112 which evolved into the LYSys series of cabs. Ninety zillion multieffects pedals varying between a single pedal size (even mini-pedal size) and aircraft carrier deck size have been released. Everybody loves at least one of them, and everybody has found something to moan about with at least one of them. Basses are still being made with scratchplates, unfortunately. Some things never change. The big tonewood debate still erupts occasionally. It's not entirely certain whether the fence that some are sitting on is made of tonewood. 1 3 Quote
