We might have to have a chat about the Shuker Tony, I've missed it...... 1 Quote
Rob MacKillop Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Sorry to see you go, Hell, as I’ve just got to know you from your helpful comments and recommendations in a DB thread. I had a c.40-year career as a lute and historical guitar player, but due to illness I gave up a couple of years ago. The overwhelming feeling I had was one of relief! Finally, no more demands, no more stress! It was the best thing for me then. Now I’m turning to bass playing - something I’d always done on the side - and not in any professional sense, just for relaxation and exploration. May you be as happy in your new adventures as I am in mine. 5 1 Quote
Obrienp Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago 6 hours ago, Hellzero said: I took the decision after the weekend... So after playing mainly fretless bass and double bass during 40+ years, I've come to the decision to quit. Why? Because my bass duet is officially over and at 60 years old, I really don't want to join a band or other musicians again and start toying with people ego... From now on, I'll focus on piano only, which seems to be my instrument and only took me 40+ years to figure that. 🤦🏻 At least, I can play anything on my own without having to manage some badly placed susceptibility. I'll be selling some gear too, watch the ads. Farewell bass world. 👋🏼 I hope this works for you and that you don’t regret it later. I am not sure that being 60 years old should come into it. I’m 70 in a couple of weeks😱 and I have absolutely no intention of stopping playing in bands. Perhaps you have been unlucky with the personalities in the bands you have played in? There could be a really fulfilling experience waiting for you, with the right people. Just a thought anyway. I wish you all the best for however it works out for you. 1 1 Quote
cetera Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago There's a difference between giving up 'actively' playing out.... and giving up and never playing again. I trust it's the former... Best of luck whatever you do 👍 1 1 Quote
Lozz196 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I’ll echo the sentiments of most on this thread, good luck with whatever you end up doing but hopefully still make appearances on here, wouldn’t be the same without you. 1 Quote
pantherairsoft Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I did this. Sold everything. Didn't pick up an instrument for 4 years. Eventually I got the itch again though - with no band or desire to be in one at the time - I just wanted to make noise again. It was the best thing I ever did, as I came back with a renewed interest and some real excitement for it. For me quitting ended up just being a break, but whatever it ends up being for you, as long as it gives you the mental headspace to feel good about it, that's all that matters! 4 1 Quote

fiatcoupe432 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Good luck Tony ... Take the time you need . I totally understand your decision ! Im early 40s and I have no desire to join a band . I love playing at home and continuing learning the bass . Perhaps you could start a Liberace tribute band ? Haven't seen one 🤣 2 Quote
BlueMoon Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago All the best, Tony. I hope we can still benefit from your wise words and advice going forward. Take care! 2 1 Quote
Mrbigstuff Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Left hand of a piano is basically bass anyway 😉 1 Quote
snorkie635 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Fully get where you're coming from Tony. The world is your oxter now - take it easy, and hopefully we shall converse again. Best wishes now and for whatever your future holds. S. 1 Quote

Memo to Self: Stay away from @Hellzero adverts. Incidentally, there is no actual law that says you can't play piano and bass. Just saying ... 1 1 1 Quote

Hellzero Posted 2 hours ago Author Posted 2 hours ago 5 hours ago, Supernaut said: I don't want to target you or other individuals who have created threads like these but why do you need to 'announce' you are quitting bass? Is this some new phenomenon in the social media age with big announcements over everything that someone decides? Because it also helps the wound to cure a bit, and because there could also be some for sale ads that will so have an instant answer and not letting people in the wild for my act. That said, as some mentioned, the left hand plays the bass part on piano, so all I acquired is useful as well as tempo and sight reading. Anyway thanks for all the comments and they all are positive to me. 2 Quote
KingPrawn Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Good for you, man. As long as you're happy and enjoying your music on whatever instrument 1 Quote
TheLowDown Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Best wishes, Hz :). I would still recommend keeping one bass behind, just in case. Stopping gigging doesn't mean that you can't make your own music by yourself with your bass and piano. 1 Quote
dmccombe7 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Appreciate your reasoning and i wish you all the very best with whatever comes along. As long as you stay on BC cause we'd miss you. All the best Dave Quote
