My relatively modest list:

Hondo II (Ric copy)

—GAP—

Westone

—LOOOOOONG GAP—

Rickenbacker

Squier

Warwick

Sandberg

Höfner

Vigier

Squier

Still got them all except the Hondo (loaned to a friend, never to be seen again) and the first Squier (a SS Jaguar I just didn’t get on with).

Short list for me, too.

In order:

Westone

Satellite

Westfield

Aria Pro II

Cort

BC Rich

Epiphone

I got the Satellite P Bass while I still had the Westone, but I was given it for free by my boss’s son. Even though I liked the Satellite, I didn’t keep it for long because I didn’t see the point in owning more than one bass. I honestly believe that if I hadn’t been forced to sell the Westone, I would still own just one bass. The Westone and Satellite are the only ones I don’t currently own.

I need a way-back machine to remember them all (I'm sure some are missing in the middle), but in sequence starting 1969:

Vox short scale (cost £5 in Oxford junk shop in '69 - actually vey good!)

Fender mashup - Early Tele body, very early P neck - wish I still had it!

Fenton Weill 1960 *

Fender Jazz (new, returned to shop 'cos of duff neck, dead G string)

Hofner President 1960-something to play while Fender decided whether to give me a new Jazz

Fender Jazz new to replace duff-necko

Squier Tele/Precision * - new, cheap as chips, lovely bass, go-to rough-gig instrument

Tanglewood electro-acoustic *

Tanglewood electro-acoustic fretless *

Rickenbacker 4004

Fender MIJ '51 Precision copy *

Fender Jazz Plus *

De Armond Pilot Pro 5 string (widest neck ever...) *

Sterling Musicman Stingray 5 string *

Sterling Musicman Stingray 4 string * (most recent, Dec 30th 2022)

*  = still with me

So only 9 basses hidden around the house at the moment...

Added * for current basses

Rickenbacker

G&L

Lakland

Zon

Sei

Modulus

De Gier

Bravewood

Fodera

Jaydee

Not as many as I'd thought, but multiples of some, and reminders of a couple now long gone and sorely missed.

I’ve only been playing for 7 years and have agreed to a 3-bass limit, so this is probably inexcusable:

Stagg

Spector

Ibanez 5

Ibanez 4

Squier

G&L Tribute*

Sire

Fender MIM J

Sandberg Electra*

Bass Collection

Spector (again)*

* = keeps

Still have most but I’ve sold a few. There’s just a couple I’d sell now but I’m not under any panic to. I’m more likely to look at amps and cabs these days although I’m well equipped, I keep thinking an Aguilar sl112 would look good in the living room, fine piece of furniture…

5 different 5 strings

Tanglewood Rebel 5k

Traded in for a Ashbury 5 string acoustic bass

* Washburn xb 500 (twin humbuckers)

* Boulder Creek 5 string acoustic

* Washburn xb 500 (twin single coils)

And a Aria P copy, like Phil Lynott played, in baby blue.  Only 4 strings so I sold it...

* I still have these.

I actually keep a list of everything I've had, bass and guitar. It's very comprehensive and a few years ago I started recording the serial numbers too

I have a list of my current stock too (and what I paid for them too, including the sold ones and how much they sold for, if that all makes sense)

There are glaring omisions from my years of playing. No Warwick, No Alembic, Sandberg, Lakland, etc.

How I wish I could try some of the sold ones now, to see if they were actually any good. I went through a phase of buying stuff and gigging it but didn't really understand what I was doing.

My JayDee, I'd love to see that one again but sadly the guy I sold it to, passed away and it was sold soon after

My list

Aria

Bravewood

Crockett (custome build by Andy Crockett)

Epiphone

ESP

Fender

Gibson

Guild

Hamer

Hofner

Hohner

Ibanez

JayDee

J & D brothers

Kay

Manson

Musicman

Retrovibe

Rickenbacker

Rickenfaker

Rockinbetter

Spector

Squier

Stag

Status

Steinberger

Tempest (actually a rebadged Kay)

Vox

Washburn

Hohner Arbour series (plywood P-bass copy)

Hohner B Bass V (awful pointy thing)

Westone Thunder (brutal, especially with Trubass strings; I ended up giving that one away to a young lady.  Should have kept it)

Aria roundback electro-acoustic (again, awful, but Paul Barker played something similar so it had to be cool, right?)

Fender Jazz MIM (great bass, sold it to buy a PA....)

Fifteen year gap

Squier Jazz (plywood MIK jobby, doesn't play that well but sounds great)

Fender Player P bass (black, superb, slightly modded)

Fender Player P bass (white, thanks to @dmc79, again, superb).

I think I'll stick with the three I now have.

at one time i pretty much had one of every major production brand there was (excpet warwick. never owned a warwick) this was my room in 2002. i had so many. nothing really over 2K at the time cost to me. i never went in for the high end fancy custom basses.

now, bar a few exceptions, everything i have i either built or modified heavily

basses_LI.jpg.c19c68bc0930af1baceab421969914d1.jpg

i had a bit of a problem back then. more than one!
