  1. This is Interesting to me because I saw MCR live about a year ago and Mikey Way played Jazz basses the whole time MCR was awesome live - one of the best concerts I went to, and I'm an old guy
  2. I only have a few stone tools and a Mammoth tusk from about that time
  3. I thought I would share this. The title is a little bit of a misleading double entendre: it is certainly not an attack on Charles, who I absolutely admire (and I hope I expressed that admiration enough in the video) but, instead, addresses the "culture problem" which is the issue that YouTube Bass Phenoms represent to impressionable aspiring players. There are many facets to being a pro bassist, many of which have nothing to do with technique and skill and can't really be expressed through a YouTube video...all this coming from a former pro working bassist. I know Charles is very experienced which is why I singled him out and stated that he can probably handle any situation, but I'm unsure of some other YT bass influencers
  4. One of my fave Geezer basslines as well ! I also like his bass work on the song Heaven and Hell (not to mention the entire album)...very tasty parts throughout also, if youve never seen this, its a must:
  5. Im not a pick guy nor am I a P-bass guy but I LOVE the sound of a P-Bass with fresh roundwounds played with a pick...If I were primarily a pick player, I would probably use a P-Bass often
  6. Yes but in the 2000s Lang did all the awesome fretless parts....The fretted parts are attributed to Lickley although there are some sources that state that Trevor Horn (who produced Lexicon) did all the fretted parts, which is also believable
  7. In the videos, Lickley is playing a Kramer DMZ bass. Although the bass in videos is often not what is being played on records, the fretted parts on Lexicon sound like a high-endy brittly P-Bass, which is what those basses sound like
  8. Thanks for the info! Thats more information I learned just posting here than I did in the past decade lo....this begs the question: Did Lang also play the fretted parts? Lickley is in the music videos from the album's singles which means he was still in the band post release....and yes, I love that Show Me bass riff.......
  9. This guy is a complete mystery. The Lexicon of Love by ABC is, to me, a near perfect pop album: like a dancy version of Eldorado by ELO ( another near perfect album)...Brad Lang did all the great fretless parts on that album and even did fretless for them on subsequent albums (like the end of "Be Near Me" from How to Be a Zillionaire)...there is practically no information on him except being a UK session guy in the 80s.....Would love to hear more of his work.......Anybody?
  10. wellll........26 now.............but of those 26, only about 4 or 5 are actual keepers :)....The rest are just some I acquired over the years for whatever reason or acquisitions to review on my YT channel with the intent of trading out for different YT content (unless I really really like it)
  11. I did it a long time ago and will probably try it again sometime in the future just for laughs, yuks, and giggles
  12. I play mostly non-heavy rock styles but I have one bass, a 1989 Fender Power Jazz Special that has is a ReverseP/J and there is a little something in the distribution that seems more even from that Reverse P
  13. I really like it here! This is actually a forum I enjoy reading more than I do posting..Happy to be a Supporting Member
  14. Interesting spot to place a P pickup for sure.....has me curious
  15. Scary!!!!!!!! Thats almost exactly how I have the 160 set on my B3 (I still use it occasionally, but I mostly use my Zoom B6 these days...I break out the B3 when I need to travel quick, fast, and/or playing a "questionable" room lol
  16. It happens, but it's rare.....most often at a hired gun gig when players that don't really know me personally and want to know more of what I'm about......
  17. I was curious about one of these and found a second hand one for very little money, which was nice because these piqued my interest.
  18. How can you leave it out "Standing In The Rain"? Those four songs (Side 3 if youre as old as I am) are the complete "Concerto For a Rainy Day" - they all go together (I know the OP said three, but c'mon! )
  19. Everybody is different. Even if you arent phoning-in parts, 10 or more is certainly doable if the player understands theory, can hear "telegraphed" changes (i.e. song in Key-C goes from C to C7, nine times out of ten the next chord is the IV chord, etc), and is an overall quick study. Some players are like that; other aren't. So there isnt any real answer here
  20. Evertime you go Steve Harris and point the bass neck at the crowd, your leg will knock it out of tune
