  1. its only normal for people that dont have any ethics. Not their fault: blame the parents
  2. i love when I see basses that have spoof names....you cant tell from a distance, but up close its a MusicMom Sinkray
  3. Depends on the music: in blues or rootsier styles of bands in a live situation, Yes.....in a hi-nrg dance band, no.......yes they have different stage dynamics and lack of moving air but, for certain clubs and stages, sometimes thats a good thing
  4. One of my closest friends is a working bass player that gigs with his SUB because he likes it better and doesn't worry about it getting abused on stage......Its about the Tear, not the Gear
  5. I started doing a series of videos that covers topics that a lot of us working Top 40 bass players did back in da day. The Fake Fretless technique was a popular one but hardly gets discussed anymore so I thought Id post it here for you guys to ponder and/or scrutinize lol
  6. It said "early in ZZ Tops career"...........I dont think they were millionaires and/or privileged in the early to mid 70s....maybe ten-aires or hundred-aires
  7. I made a video about how a lot of us Top 40 Bass Players used to switch tones on our basses back in the 70s and 80s. I feel like a lot of these techniques often dont get talkead about anymore and maybe some younger (or older) players may find this information useful
  8. Thanks for watching! Unfortunately, Im a RN by dayjob so I do the best I can under time constraints....However, I can tell you this: the strings on ALL the basses are D'Addario XLs Roundwounds........Most are new, a few are a little broken in. No strings are dead or lifeless. Thats the best I can do while YouTube is still a hobby and Im busy starting IVs and giving enemas for a living ...Im hoping that the video at least gives a ballpark representation of each instrument........There was no palm muting on any of the demos. What you heard was the tonality/characteristic of an instrument within that mix context Also: Everything I record I do direct with NO track EQing : straight out of bass into the interface. I add a little compression (mostly limiting) but thats the only processing
  9. I havent been posting a lot of my videos here lately but I decided to post this one because its a demo of several basses played with a (sometimes neglected) plectrum. I thought some players here may find it interesting so, here it is. Enjoy
  10. for finger style: mostly two, sometimes three, and rarest occasions all four (for raking) slap bass 'popping' is the one that fluctuates for me: both index and middle fingers for double pop but, for single pop - which is most of the time, ill go extended periods - years, even - single popping with the index then ill go another extended period single popping with middle finger and eventually back again to index...i can tell from my YouTube vids Im in the middle-finger single pop phase again
  11. @CiciBass As a fellow YouTuber, Ive watched your channel before. I think you are a good player and very (musically/bass) interesting, even though our musical tastes are probably different. You do what you do because that is who you are and keep doing it.
  12. Thanks for the replies. So far, everything posted here is spot on and certainly helps getting to know this bass faster by knowing what to expect
  13. I just ordered one. I was looking for a balance between budget, looks, flexibility, and tone (particularly Modern Tone capability using Roundwounds)......Probably too late to ask being I just ordered it, but if you have one or play one, please share. Thanks
  14. *sigh*....I just recently decided that its best to play my 5s in my current group based on their material they cover....so, I feel ya Good luck with the new bass.....Im looking at a MTD Kingston Super 5 Im seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on. Otherwise I have a 2014 Fender Jazz Deluxe 5, an '87 Peavey Dyna Bass 5. a Sire V7 Gen 1, and a Shecter Omen Elite V to rotate
  15. Mr. Magic is the "Mustang Sally" of jazz 😆
  16. As a guy that does a bass YouTube Channel with a lot of Photoshop work, most of those pics look like Photoshops (Very noticeable on the Bass VI neck pics) Just a FYI if ya didnt notice
  17. welcome.....and enjoy the bass playing ride
  18. All Im trying to do in the video is "Keep It Real" to all the P-Bass dogma and tropes. Im not trying to change the industry or anybody's preference. By Keeping it Real I mean: We -as bassists, engineers, producers, etc - tend to get caught up in the little details of our instruments/gear as well as the artistic minutia of our craft but, the reality is, the application itself often isnt as demanding of those details as we would like to think they are. I used a Squier Classic Vibe 60s P in the demo because it is about as middle-of-the-road P-Bass as I can get, there are certainly better sounding P-Basses
  19. So, if what you are saying is that YouTube is to Video/TV/Movie Entertainment as Karaoke is to Live Music Entertainment.......then, yeah, I can see that
  20. Now I want to tinker in my garage to create a pickguard capo
