  1. Hi all, Forgive me if this is a silly question- I am new to routers. I have gifted a Bosch 1/4 inch 1,200w plunge router. One of the things I'd like to use it for is to rout cavities using templates, mainly for amatuer guitar building. I have been told to use flush trim bits for this. However, when the router is fully plunged, the collet is level with the top of the base. The base is 20mm thick. If 20mm of the bit's shank needs to be in the collet, that's a total of 40mm shank length needed before the bearing, if the bearing is going to get clear of the base. That's before considering the thickness of a template. From what I can see, there are no/very few bits with that sort of shank length before the bearing. Am I missing something here, or are flush trim bits not compatible with my router? Thanks.
  2. I don't think I'd ever bypass it, more likely have a preamp or amp always enabled, and switch on effects as and when. Do you not like the preamp/amp sounds into a d.i.? Cheers.
  3. So I've been thinking about getting a Stomp. Play in functions and corporate setups mostly. Almost always go d.i. The idea was to have a tuner, pre-amp, and maybe a couple of effects there - octaver, filter - in a box easy to just grab and go, with the bonus of some fun sounds to play around with for a couple of original projects. Also, I'm in need of a portable audio interface. Not a massive effects snob, and use them fairly sparingly. Play with IEMs, so used to not having that anp-in-a-room sound on gigs, and engineers almost always provide a d.i. box, so not too fussed about no XLR. It seems like it would be ideal, but some posts about that digital sound are making me hesitate. Would it work well for this situation?
  4. Also, I used a cheap and cheerful MM pickup from Warman which sounded fine. The cheap Wilkinson alcino V P pickup in there sounds positively great to me.
  5. Hi @BiteTheBoxer Yeah, it worked out OK thanks- really liked the parallel and single coil modes, and it did sound like a stingray. It sounded really nice, in fact! Ultimately, though, I don't think I'm a stingray man, so I've moved the MM towards the bridge (with some shoddy hand routing) and put a P pickup in, and I really like that combo! I think the tone pot for each coil is definitely possible, although strange. I'm not the right person to ask, though! Does the volume pot come after the tone pots?
  6. Nice! That looks great. How did you paint it? Also, just want to hop on the Warman fanclub. Am in the process of my first proper bass build, and the Warman MM humbucker I've used does the job nicely!
  7. That looks absolutely lovely! Did you finish it yourself? What is the finish/wood? And how did you cut the vinyl so accurately?! Sorry for the questions, it's just I immediately want to go and out together a p just like that!
  8. Thank you- so many good suggestions! I've managed to find a used Okto Noijs. Love an octaver too, so excited to try it. Thanks @Quatschmacher In terms of the 808, I've been using a subby octave down in practice and that actually sounds good. Locked in with the bass drum it kinda gives that sub-blowing effect with a big attack.
  9. Yes- thank you for the information! I missed the first message.
  10. Hi all, Just a quick question. Got some gigs coming up with a number of tunes with 808 style basslines. Would the DOD Meatbox get me in a close enough ballpark. It doesn't need to be absolutely perfect. There will be big subs and pa support, and we're using IEMs, so I don't need to worry about blowing up any backline! Also, on an unrelated note - and I imagine this must have been asked a few times - does a cheaper and available alternative to the low gain fuzz of the Doom 2 exist? Cheers.
  11. Have recently played some newer Tokai jazz basses at Rose Morris in London, and own a '21 Hard Puncher. They are incredible basses. More playable and richer sounding than MIA Fenders to my amateur ears. If I didn't have one, would snap this up at this price!
  12. Cool- thanks. Am I right in thinking you could assign eq functions to the knobs? So in theory something like Bass, Treble, Mid and Mid Freq on 4 knobs. Then maybe Threshold, Ratio, Sidechain HP and blend on the alternative controls. Combined with the graphic eq used sparingly to kind of get your tone in the ballpark of what you'd like for front of house, it seems like it would do the job better than most pedals actually marketed as preamps/eqs?! Or am I just being hopelessly optimistic? Cheers
  13. Hi Atlas users. Am I mad for thinking this could do a job as a bit of an 'all in one' preamp style box if it was run into a di? The compression obviously looks great, but between the parametric and graphic eq, it looks like a pretty special tone-shaping tool, with the 8khz maybe providing a little cab-like tone roll-off if all the way down? Thinking it might do the trick for having a load more control for my straight to FoH and IEM gigs? Or will I be disappointed if I expect the EQ and compression fron this to be able to sweeten an IEM/FoH sound? It's just for cheaper than many preamps with relatively simple EQs, it seems stacked with features.
  14. Do you know, I think that demo has sealed it for me. It sounds so good, and so versatile. Now, does anyone know where I can find one in stock!? 😬
  15. That is a very good point, and in my ideal originals band, that would be my tone all the time! However, these corporate gigs call for a bit more versatility and I use a p or a passive mm style bass, both with nickel rounds. Yeah, very tempted by the '64. Agonising choosing between that and the SV, or to go slightly more versatile but maybe less convincing with the SGT, not to mention lots of other suggestions by users!
  16. That's now on my radar as well- and unlike some of the others there's one I could try near me. Thanks!
  17. Yeah!! Feeling if anything more confused😂 But appreciate all the feedback. I can't quite stretch to the outlay of both at the same time, but I think returns could be the way forward.
  18. Okay, now that looks and sounds awesome. I'd love to try one of them! Thanks.
  19. I'd love to hear from people who have experience of the two!
  20. Hi all, Just wondering if anyone's had any experience using this with IEMs, amd whether it feels tubey at all with a little drive engaged? Also, whether anyone has used this and the Bassrigs through IEM and can compare? Thanks!
  21. Yeah, that sounds really nice! Maybe I'll see if I can borrow it again amd have another go.
  22. I did look at that and think it looks cool, but read a huge thread on it on another forum, half of which was complaining about the software not working, amd many of which were complaining of the drive sound since a firmware update or something! Do you have experience gigging with one? Thanks for the suggestion!
  23. Sorry man, yeah it was the VT bass I borrowed. Maybe didn't give it enough of a chance. That 2 notes does look great actually. Hadn't considered the Spectradrive. Not sure why, the digital thing puts me off a little, but going to have a little listen to some demos of it with my IEMs. Thanks!
