Cosmo Valdemar
Out of nowhere. Now, I do love Metallica, and have done for nearly 30 years, but I have to ask myself, is this really the best they can do? Really?! It will probably sound a lot better live with the guitars dominating rather than those ridiculously loud drums.
lemmywinks
Pressed stop after the 37th consecutive line ended with "ay-shon". Edited November 28, 2022 by lemmywinks
Crusoe
It has a very NWOBHM feel to it, which I quite like, but yeah, the vocals are very annoying.
fretmeister
Bass is very low in the mix again. Good old Lars.
fretmeister
Also - are they now trying to be Diamondhead rather than just be influenced by them? 1
Machines
Big Metallica fan in my teens. It's OK, but not something that sounds like they spent 5+ years on. Exact same rinse and repeat of previous 2 albums. Edited November 28, 2022 by Machines
lemmywinks
Worth adding that I'm not expecting them to come out with anything amazing or even half decent as the genre they play in moved on decades ago, great that they're still out there doing it though. Can think of worse ways to spend your late 50s / early 60s.
asingardenof
Sounds like they put Hit The Lights in a blender with Mercyful Fate and Diamond Head's back catalogues and this is the result. I actually really liked the last album, even though it could have easily lost 4 or 5 sub-par songs. Spit Out The Bone was the best thing they'd done in a decade. This new song just sounds so... limp. fretmeister
Just to complete the circle... here is Diamond Head covering "No Remorse" 2 years ago. What a cracking version!
Doctor J
Terrible. Utterly terrible. Consistent with their last 30+ years, I suppose. It's mystifying. They used to be so f*****g amazingly good. There is nothing of that old band left in them.
Lozz196
Needs some more low-end presence imo, other than that I quite like it.
paul_5
Of course, given the resurgence of 'Puppetz' in Stranger Things they'd be foolish not to reference it it the video, but that's about the only thing of note in this. Lars playing 'Overkill' underneath Kirk and James playing Diamondhead riffs.

At least he didn't have to use 'con-stip-ay-shon' or 'in-flay-shon' when out of words with rhyming phonetics... The track sounds like a load of bits put together, especially the intro, nothing sticks. Not a cause for e-lation. 1
SteveXFR
Why would they make the drums so loud when they're not interesting or creative? Bass is too quiet again. Metallica used to make great music, these days it's all just average. With the exception of Lars they're all extremely good musicians (even Lars is good, but not great) but I think they ran out of ideas a long time ago. Well he's not quite turned 60 yet so maybe future songs will feature angry lyrics about bathroom issues? Probably best approaching their next album with considerable trepi-day-shown.

Grimalkin
The bass has never been a fix-ay-shon In its rel-ay-shon Lars won't allow emancip-ay-shon Due to his Anatidaephobia.

Barking Spiders
I'm paying for my missus to go to Download this year with one of her daughters and son-in-law primarily because they're big Metallica fans. I kind of owe it to her as I took her to Sonisphere 2014 and by the sunday morning i couldn't stand it any more and we left so she never got to see them. On the plus side Chas n' Dave were great. Watching this vid I'm glad not to be going with her. Love has its boundaries ya know!
Beedster
That was like stepping back to the early 80's, to me it had a Priest/Maiden B-side feel. I'm sure others will know better
