Clear/wood/unpainted finishes, call them what you want, I don't like them...but I have bought them, and currently one is a keeper.

I shouldn't like this bass at all. I like painted finishes, rosewood fingerboards...but it is really nice to play. :D

Same here. Unfinished instruments as my wife calls them. used to have a telecaster with that transparent yellow stuff on it, she wouldn't allow that in the living room collection.

If you are not colouring it, it needs to have some pretty impressive wood.

I can't abide those horrid bits of wire that people stick on their fingerboards. Why not just learn to play the thing properly?

Think they're called 'frets'.

The horrid bits bits of wire? Make a funny clanking noise and the instrument sounds better without them?

They're called strings.

They haven't learned how to mute unplayed strings yet.

I reckon it’s some people saw Victor Wooten or Pino do it once and figured “oh this is what you have to do to be taken seriously “

I've owned a red bass with a white plate (Fender Jazz- Sunset Translucent over Ash with a W/B/W plate)

I also have a bass with a logo on the body.

Fortunately they weren't the same instrument.

There's very little that'd put me off. Something poorly made, something that irreparably badly, plays badly or doesn't sound good (to my ears). Anything that's damaged (rather than used or relic'd) would be out, too.
