  1. Happy New Year all. LONG time not posting here. I have a bog standard Epiphone EB0. I am thinking about a mini humbucker install near the bridge. If so, can anyone recommend a middling one? Would I need a mount etc for it? I might go for the switching option in the neck pickup as well. (Is it a series or parallel switch etc)
  2. Couldn't justify the money, but if I wont the lotto, I'd buy one. They sound and feel great.
  3. Ooof, you have been done. Sorry for your troubles.
  4. Granted I am only going on YT videos. I do like P basses, but the difference doesn't sound as obvious to me in some videos. I would like to try one out though, play some Black Rebel Motorcycle Club!
  5. The Guild Starfire 1 looks really cool, but can't help but feel the p bass pickup and position makes it sound like a lot of other bases. If there was some h style neck pickup or mudbucker, it would sound and look awesome!
  6. @mcnach thread revival! Do you remember the model name of your tuners? I have an EB0 with a Retrovibe pickup and a brass nut. Thinking of getting a push pull installed or something, or possibly a diMarzio. It definitely needs new tuners to stop the neck dive. An extremely comfortable bass guitar to play. I prefer the bolt on neck.
  7. @Bassassin thanks, I will have a look over there and ask!
  8. I found a picture of it finally. Like a fool, I sold it.
  9. It’s been asked a lot but maybe not this one: lightweight tuners for an Epi EB0 bass, with string through the tuner hole and then tune? Doesn’t have to be lollipop necessarily…
  10. ‘Twas more in terms of neck profile / feel I was thinking of
  11. Would one of those full hollow hofner ignition basses be a halfway house between acoustic/electric. Different beast again perhaps ..
  12. How would these compare to the G&L tribute P, apart from the pickup differences? I should have cut to the chase ages ago and got a G&L tribute!
  13. @Cat Burrito how does it sound with the flatwounds? And what brand strings did you put on it?
  14. @jd56hawk I love the Alice in Chains unplugged album. He's using a bit of chorus on his bass right? I won't be gigging it, so I don't need a pickup or I don't care if it's loud, or not loud, or big or small etc.... I *might* use it to record....
  15. @jd56hawkthat dean looks interesting alright. I already have an electric bass, which is why I asked about an acoustic bass! Not sure if soundhole pickups work well in acoustic basses or now. I suppose something with a pickup would be ok. I don't plan on gigging it. Maybe a folk session might be nice.
  16. Hi all. I am thinking about an acoustic bass for home use mainly. The thinking would be to put some flatwounds (non roundwounds at least) on it for a *thunk* *thunk* type sound. I will probably buy used. This is an old video which goes through a few recommendations. I believe these demos are 32" so might prove difficult if replacing strings to get some flatwounds. (Wouldn't even know if I should be getting special acoustic bass strings in this case) Outside of these recommendations, any other used half decent brands I should look out for? Probably so many options really on the cheaper side of things... For convenience sake, I can stick to 34".
  17. @Bassassin some lovely guitars in that catalogue too. I think it may have been the SB405, but my memory is still foggy!
  18. I think that might have been it, but again, can't remember it being neck through.
  19. Hi all. I have trawled the net looking for pics, but can't for the life of me remember the Aria bass I had around 20 years ago. I wasn't really a "bass player" at the time, more a side gig I had so bought a semi decent bass and sold it not too long after the band finished up. I should have kept it. It was a 5 string Aria Pro II, active, similar in shape but not exactly the same as the SB100 / SN900. Fairly sure it was a screw on neck, had a similar headstock as the SB100, and was a natural finish. I think it had 2 pickups, but can't remember to be honest, as I used to just plug in, turn everything to 10 and play. I wouldn't have been very knowledgeable at the time about the ins and outs of gear. It wasn't expensive. I bought it used at the time, but it was a solid enough bass. Anyone know what I am on about and could identify the model?
  20. @Baloney Balderdash very true. I am afraid to "dig in" with it though. I will wait to see how it holds up in the Andalusian summer! I do also have a bad back, so....
  21. Hola folks. Very long time no post. Thought I would wait until I at least had some photos to share of my now upgraded Squier Bronco. Bought it a few years back. Sold it. Bought it back after a year, and had parts lying around originally for the upgrade. I got very lucky and found a used bridge with the right spacing. New bone nut, new tuners, new pickup and wiring and had the volume and tone knobs lying around as well. I had to add in the expense of getting it all set up with a luthier. It does play A LOT better, but still is very light feeling, like a toy. Maybe I cannot escape the fact it is using cheaper woods etc. It is perfect for home recording though and rehearsals.
  22. Creamery closed for orders at the moment , so will have to wait it out! Next up is a 17mm bridge... Edit: just picked up a hipshot kickass bridge second hand in Spain. Happy days.
