TrevorR Posted April 30 Posted April 30 (edited) A chum’s wife couldn’t make it to Postmodern Jukebox at G-Live so he offered me her ticket. I do love PMJ’s videos where they mash up modern hits with older musical styles. However, live they took it to another level. Such a fun, fun night out. Not bad seats, either!!! rwillett Posted May 2 Posted May 2 The Out and Out Blues Band with our very own @ossyrocks on bass 2 Quote

For anyone interested, I ran my P bass into a GK Legacy 800, through an Elf 2x8. The GK DI ran to FOH and back at me a little bit in the monitors. Quote
rwillett Posted May 2 Posted May 2 I thoughly enjoyed the set. Songs were great, really tight band. Quote
Peloquin Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Saw Agnostic Front last night at Robins in Wolverhampton. Not seen them for years. They were still good. Quote
three Posted May 5 Posted May 5 (edited) Roger Daltrey in Manchester last night. A voice I've known since I was 10 and all of the character and timbre remains intact. An extraordinary vocal performance, and not just in view of age. An outrageously talented nine-piece band including some big names. Roger moaned about his IEMs for most of the performance, though that seems par. Probably a gig for Who and Daltrey stalwarts but a superb two-hour set that covered a lot of ground with some excellent variations on classic and less well-known tracks. A highly appreciative audience too, and the band and Roger appeared to be genuinely happy throughout. Excellent mix overall - I was directly in-front of the desk. Acoustic instruments - and there were many of them - were handled beautifully. As one might imagine, the only flabby, mushy, indistinct mess was the bass. No note definition at all. A P employed throughout with no visible bass amp. A very good player I'd assume (given the overall class of the band) but impossible to tell. Edited May 5 by three 2 Quote

Angelus Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Saw GUN do an acoustic set at St Luke’s in Glasgow. It’s a beautiful venue and a great version of their songs, some of which they’d never done live before. I’m thinking we could do an acoustic set from our set list? 1 Quote

cetera Posted Wednesday at 08:33 Posted Wednesday at 08:33 (edited) Two gigs in the last week or so.... Canadian melodic rockers 'Harem Scarem' turned in a fantastic set at Camden Underworld last Monday. Huge riffs and melodies and probably the most underrated rock guitarist of the last 30 years in Pete Lesperance! Sunday saw me visiting Hoxton Hall (a quaint old variety venue in East London) for the first time.... to see Yacht Rock kings 'Young Gun Silver Fox' with support from the excellent Joel Sarakula! Wonderful sets of 'west coast' sounds dripping with Fender Rhodes, tight bass grooves with a Doobie bounce... and luscious vocals. Simply fantastic! Edited Wednesday at 08:34 by cetera 1 Quote
NHM Posted Wednesday at 22:19 Posted Wednesday at 22:19 I'm just home for the Toby Lee gig in Faversham (conveniently just round the corner from home 🙃) wow, what a fine musician, good band, lovely songs, what's not to like. Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted Wednesday at 22:56 Posted Wednesday at 22:56 Walter Trout. Extraordinary guitarist, extraordinary band. 1 Quote
visog Posted Friday at 14:46 Posted Friday at 14:46 (edited) Gary Barlow on fine form last night in Manchester. Lee Pomeroy (just in shot on the right) appeared to have a ball. Also Milton McDonald on guitar left-front making a second Yes-related band member as he played with ABWH way back when they toured. Add to that Gary himself chose 'Owner of a Lonely Heart' on 'Desert Island Discs' as his wake-up call to step up the production for his music. (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0001h1p) However no prog last night, just Gary's solo and Take That bangers. Great show. Edited Friday at 14:47 by visog 2 Quote
guyl Posted Saturday at 10:36 Posted Saturday at 10:36 High Fade in Warrington last night. LOUD, hot, sweaty. An assault on the senses, but brilliant! 2 Quote
WalMan Posted Saturday at 15:51 Posted Saturday at 15:51 Barock Project with support from Peter Jones at Trading Boundaries on Thursday night. Love the venue and both artists. Peter Jones on fine, nutty form and got up to do one number he had co-written with BP just him and Luca. The BP bass player couldn’t make it this time so they had his parts recorded - I’d have offered but it gets a bit technical at times 🤣 Had a great night at our favourite venue with #2 son and his g/f. I’d have gone for the second night on Friday if I hadn’t been gigging myself Quote
Woodinblack Posted yesterday at 11:42 Posted yesterday at 11:42 Steve wilson last night in Bristol. Preface with saying I wasn't so keen on his current album and I am aware this is a tour for that album so hes going to play that and I am probably nnot going to like it more. he did, and I didn't. However the second half had a lot of the older stuff (where older is the previous album back) and a lot of that I really enjoyed, only tempered slightly by people in front of us who obviously had to shout louder as the band were interrupting their conversation. I think venues should have dedicated areas for people who want to have a conversation instead of watching the band they came to see. Nick Beggs is obviously happy to get his Wal 2 pro back, he played that most of the night and seemed to be enjoying himself on it. On the parts where it was just him and drums, the bass did sound pretty good, rather growly. Sound was pretty good apart from maybe a bit too bass heavy as it was vibrating a bit much. Still great day out, great meal before, and I made a point of parking on the exit floor of the car park as last time I was there I was on the 8th (exit on the 2nd) and it took about half an hour to get out! 1 Quote

Mike Stevens (MD - acoustic guitar, far right) has certainly gathered a fine collection of musicians around himself. Seeing most of this lot as Jeff Lynne’s ELO later in the year. If you get a chance to catch their side band “Big Horizon”… they’re fabulous. 1 Quote
